Hotels that overlook stadiums. 12:05 - Apr 13 with 1351 viewsMattinLondon

A couple hotels overlook some football grounds - for example there’s an Holiday Inn that overlooks carrot Road and is the most modern building in that vicinity.

Has anyone ever found themselves watching a sporting event from such a hotel? Either by chance or by design.

The nearest that I’ve come to this is watching Worcestershire cricketers train from a Premier Inn bar that is right next door to the cricket ground.

The rooms with windows onto the pitch a Carrow Road are always reduced price on a Saturday to try to drum up some trade.

A few years ago my partner and I took my then 5 month old daughter to introduce her to family oop-North, we stayed at the Bolton Whites Hotel.

We were aimlessly wandering around the hotel with the pushchair, trying to get her to sleep, when we stumbled across an empty bar / restaurant area with views over the pitch from behind the away end. Our daughter's first introduction to football was therefore unwittingly Bolton v Leeds:

In a random twist of fate unknown to me at the time, the stand to the right is called the 'Nat Lofthouse Stand' (you can see the name on the middle tier). My mum (who was holding my daughter in this photo) has a tenuous claim to fame to having slept in Nat Lofthouse's sock drawer (at a similar age to my daughter in this pic) as a makeshift cot when visiting him with my Grandparents once upon a time (they owned a local sports shop and were fairly well connected with numerous Club 'names').

I have stayed a couple of times at Bolton Whites in their pitch view rooms, they have metal shutters that are closed if you do not have a match ticket. Last time we went KMc was pacing out the pitch dimensions when the ground was virtually empty. Which showed us his attention to detail in preparation. It is a lovely hotel as well, the staff were brilliant especially as they were awaiting the sale of the club at the time and not knowing if they would be sacked at short notice.

Great view from the room. Shame about the shutters coming down when the game is on.

At FC Nordsjaelland, Sindre's former club, which used to be known as Farum, the boxes around the ground double up as hotel rooms. When Town were on a pre-season tour of Denmark 20-ish years ago the squad stayed there as well as playing a friendly at the stadium. Some may recall that they had a particularly flash ground for a club of their size as the local mayor had funnelled cash into it illicitly and ultimately did time for that among other similar indiscretions.

Stayed at Headingley stadium once and saw some cricket out the window. Shame you can't also see the Rhinos playing though.

Not if you have a match ticket, either from Town or from Bolton, you can enjoy the match from the warmth of your room. You are still not allowed to have a beer mind.

Old Trafford (cricket) has two and the Rose Bowl (or whatever it's called nowadays)

Dreamed of watching a Test in my pants, from the balcony of my hotel room, drinking far cheaper beer than is available in the ground (and not having to queue for a piss)

Used to stay in , is it Cardigan Road, Hedingley in late 80’s when working in that area. B n b rooms looking over the cricket pitch. Depths of winter, but I sat in my room visualising Botham and Willis going nuts in 81’!

And in Castleford they have tigers and in Leigh they have Leopards.

Double hard up north to survive that.
