Potential events that have led to this odd outcome 18:21 - Jun 10 with 2130 viewskizaitfc

Fulham overplayed their interest leading McKenna to inform the club he wanted to move on, Fulham now appear to have stepped back and McKenna feels he cannot stay when he has said he wants to leave.

I also think McKenna may well be looking at this squad and thinking "do I really want to see another team overhaul".

So what next? Another young gamble, or go for someone stable to keep us in the prem

I think - Fulham came in for him but couldn’t/wouldn’t pay the £8m clause. McKenna wants Ashton to drop it or reduce it - that triggers a fall out and he steps away instead but as the clause remains for another 12 months (unless someone else comes in and pays us out?….thats what I see

We need experience I'd say although Keith Andrews bucked that trend!

I really have no clue who we will get.

I think the obvious truth is he wants out irrespective of interest, because he knows this group are a long way off, and his brand equity is finished without some elite recruitment, which he also knows Ashton can’t provide.

It’s a product of the really poor recruitment most fans say doesn’t exist.

He’s not an idiot. But he also has to take responsibility for that recruitment and coaching which had been superb by EFL standards and poor by this levels measures.

I mean, while we’ve been messing around, Wolves have signed two Premier League players that would walk in to our team and add huge value, that’s where we are I’m afraid.

Ashton FC isn’t for KM, that shouldn’t be a surprise.

He informed the club he wanted to go to Palace and Brighton. He stayed both times. So I don't see that as a reason.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

Fulham only announced Silva was leaving a week ago, whereas the club have known McKenna was stepping down for the last two weeks. I don't think the timeline adds up, McKenna being linked with Fulham was highly likely just speculation by talksh!te all along.

That I would say is pretty near the truth. Especially the recruitment bit. We have looked bloOdy amateurish in that department for a few transfer windows now, when we really should have started kicking on there. It really has been poor.

My first thought was that hes got a situation at home which requires his priority. I hope that’s not the case for obvious reasons.

He doesn’t strike me as the sort of bloke that would use underhand tactics to get out of his contract

In January, Ashton hung McKenna out to dry a few days after the transfer window.

That's the biggest event to cause this.
