Anyone remember that "Play It Safe" book from the 80s? 19:45 - Jun 26 with 1207 viewsHugoagogo_Reborn

Some questionable issues which nobody cared about/ realised at the time:

1) Foreword by Jimmy Saville
2) Insanely graphic pictures of injured kids
3) The book was meant for kids.

I grew up in the 70s/80s and thought my parents time was weird.

I can still remember some of the injury pictures, so it must have been traumatizing!

Yep, and there was a tv series on Sundays at around 5pm to accompany the book.

Yep, one of those books that got handed out at school that had stuck in the memory since,

See also Peak Mathematics, the Apusskidu song book, and of course, the mighty Tricolore if you were doing French.

Every time I climbed the stairs to my Grandma's flat as a kid, I had visions of the boy who had fallen 3 flights of stairs with a bloated,.bruised face. It was an horrific book, I can't believe they published it!

Thanks to that book I always think of La Rochelle as the epitome of France.

Think it’s German equivalent was set in Kaiserslautern but I’ve completely forgotten the name of it.

Think the one I was thinking of was called Deutsch Heute - my spelling could be wrong.

Yes, that's the one that I think of as well.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

Yeah I do. Growing up in Norfolk I needed guidance to stop myself from pouring boiling water on my face out of boredom. Before you start, born in Bury 😆

Wasn't there also a TV series for learners, set in a TV Studio or suchlike?

Late night on either BBC Northern Ireland ot ITV Ulster they still show ( or until recently showed) a public information ad about not coming home from the pub p1ss3d and putting the chip fryer on and burning down the house.

It literally goes ' men! When returning from the pub bladdered after a proper session don't put on the chipper and then full asleep p1ssed and burn all the family to death'.
