Worrying trend from a couple of years ago starting to reoccur… 08:21 - Sep 5 with 695 viewsITFC_Forever

Conceding goals in clusters and taking the game away from us.

2 in 4 minutes last night, 3 in 12 last week.

Need to stop doing that pretty sharpish.

2 games against sides that qualified for the Champions League is no where near enough to form any kind of conclusion.

Poll: If we were to spend £200m would you rather

Having glaring gaps in the way we are set up to defend, isn't something the players can respond to though is it?

The concern for me, is three of defenders who weren’t good enough last time, are certain starters again this time around. Defensively we don’t look good enough for the level. Is the new keeper better than Muric? He certainly wasn’t good last night. Suspect at United as well.

We need to get sensible, when we;re under the cosh, fake that injury, we used to do it all the time with Chaplin and then Hutchinson but we're not doing in so far this season. Sometimes its really needed

thats just the nature of the level of the Premier league, you make a mistake,it leads to a goal, its exactly as it was 2 years ago.

in the Championship, you can usually make 4-5mistakes, sometimes more depending on the team, before conceding, there were lots of games last season we made alot of mistakes in defence or midfield, played ourselves into trouble, but rode our luck didnt concede a goal, and then went on to win, or played ourselves out of trouble to get a result.

you cant ride your luck in the premiership like that, not with teams who have a single player that cost what nearly 2/3rds as much as we spent in the transfer window.

remember what McKenna used to say that we always needed to be hitting 90-100% performances to compete and get results in this league.

its brutal but its just the way game is at this level, and once theyve got 2, they compress the game and wait for the counter instead

mistakes get punished with goals, not chances, in the premier league, so expect this "trend" to continue for the whole season.

Look at Newcastle just now

0-1 at home on 8 minutes, almost 0-2 within 2 minutes after that

If this is accurate, we have a bigger sample size than 2 matches; we need to learn to reset quickly after conceding, or we're going to be in trouble.

Conceding in quick succession could kill us (again). by Matt_Netherlands 5 Sep 1:52
In the 2024-25 season we conceded two or more goals in a ten minute period ELEVEN(!) times.

And within that, we conceded two in 5 minutes, 5 times.

I’m not getting too down but it’s a slight worry for me already that we’re three games in and it’s happened twice already, granted against very good sides.

The Man U game was understandable as the players seemed to lose their heads after the goal following the Maguire handball wasn't chalked off; yesterday evening, not so much...

Thought we looked a bit disorganised in and out of possession, and it may take until after the international break to get so many new signings to click.
I actually thought we gave a better account of ourselves against Liverpool in the opener 2 seasons ago; inferior players, but a better team performance (we were the better team in the 1st half, but Liverpool responded in the 2nd and still took a couple of moments of quality to unlock us)

Poll: My morning poo-poo took 3 flushes to clear. Who do I call?

That won't really help us too much now. The rules changed so that any player going down and recieving treatment will need to leave the pitch for a minute. Is being down to 10 men really going to help us too much when we're under the cosh?

This is 100% for me. If they weren’t good enough last time, what makes them good enough this time ?

Players can improve over time. Whether or not this bunch have, I’m not sure.

Not if a player goes down on a throw in or goal kick etc.

Only if the ref blows his whistle because a player has gone down.

I don’t think they can/have improved. We spent so much on midfield and attack and seemed to have not thought about defending apart from Diop.
