Well I use AI a lot for various ( legal! ) things, just used it for nearly an hour today. Like a lot of tools including extremely useful ones ( which I believe AI is ) it can be misused by those who have less than friendly agenda's.
I would agree with the Pope ( not something I'd ever thought I would say in here! ) when he said a few months ago, that progress with AI is important and shouldn't be stalled, but it should have controls bought in to stop it moving a pace that we can't control.
If in the final analysis the human race has invented the monster that wants to devour it, there's only one direction to point the accusing finger, and it isn't AI. Let's hope common sense prevails. |  | | |

I can't believe how casually these people throw around possibilities of humans being killed by ai in the next few years as though it's a slight worry. "Might need a kill switch" i hear today. Might??? The way they are talking, climate change is the least of our worries

I use it daily for work, completely changed the way my team work and for the better in terms of the speed of output and quality.
I think the level they’ve reached is enough though. Anything considerably further and i would start to get seriously concerned about the number of jobs it would make redundant. |  |

Yes, regulation in AI is an absolute fantasy - regulation barely works in solid, tangible, material industries, there's absolutely zero chance of regulation working on something so ethereal as information, electricity, and bits of silicon.
For governments to waste time talking about regulation is almost criminally missing the boat - but then again, I have no idea what else they can do. I think we're absolutely fked, whether it's what we currently understand as AI, or what's about to uncontrollably evolve from it and use what resources this poor planet has left. | |

Anything that is a big multiple of intelligence above the most intelligent human is a concern. And these warnings are from a multitude of people from people working on it to the owners of it. To ignore these warnings is just stupidity and we are rolling the dice.

The companies are concerned they are unable to maintain their current growth but admitting it will send the markets spiralling, however having governments apply governance and controls to restrain growth will not scare the markets without the companies having to apply controls themselves. |  | | |
