| I know people are talking a lot about keepers and defensive issues 18:44 - Nov 8 with 630 views | Garv | But are our wide attacking positions not more of a problem at the moment? No one is nailing down either side. Clarke doesn't offer enough physicality or all round play to start games and keep us solid (and Philogene doesn't offer impact off a bench), and Fatawu hasn't really delivered anything for a little while. The consensus seems to be that Philogene was good today, and he still has nothing to show for it. Maeda is the only one we're really expecting to deliver from the start of games, and even then he's not offering goals or assist, but I'd say that isn't totally his fault. Also think Flemming has to be a due a start and we need to start crossing the ball a bit, he creates chaos in the box and is more than happy to throw his body at things. Emersonn has had an incredible amount of minutes and he was really poor today. | |

However, I don't think Flemming has shown anything, especially of late, to say he deserves a start.

Maeda is really frustrating though. Got into excellent positions a number of times in the first half, and not one of them ended with a shot on goal for us. His work in the build up is superb, but his composure/decision making at the crucial moment lets him down.

for the first 20 minutes, thought they had him under control after that and was largely anonymous second half. Still our brightest light today. Overall given the money spent on strikers, we are not getting great value out of them. [Post edited 8 Nov 18:58]

Major no...sometimes a threat. But not released enough to make a major threat.

Jaden is a bit more defensive, and Fatawu less so. Fatawu won pen at City, but then didn't bother tracking back for Forest's goal. I feel like our left is a bit more solid and right is leakier. None of the four is a nailed on starter though, so hopefully that will emerge as the season progresses. Agree it's time to try a new #9, if only to mix things up for a game or two. Don't want any player relaxing because they think they own the position. Akpom is closer to Emersonn's profile. I like his new raging-bull cameos this season. [Post edited 8 Nov 18:57]

Thats the reason someone with that pace came from celtic Incredibly fast but zero end product on the flanks

| I know people are talking a lot about keepers and defensive issues on 19:03 - Nov 8 | Poultman | Probably going to get lots of down votes but apart from Outarra that back line is shocking! Diop is ponderous Davis, the amount of times his position is with the front 3 when we don’t have possession really grinds my gears, it means others have to compensate because he doesn’t seem to have the judgement as to where he needs to be giving the opposition numerous options to cut through us. O Shea I like but I’m just not sure he’s at the level | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Don't think I knocked him. The opposite, he's the only one looking a threat, but for whatever reason still not producing numbers.

His balls across were fine. No one got on them.

| I know people are talking a lot about keepers and defensive issues on 19:38 - Nov 8 | Swansea_Blue | You can parse this however you want. Fans only start suggesting players and formations are a problem when things aren’t working. We’ve tried 3 RW and 3 LW options (I think). That’s probably more than any other position, so yes that suggests issues out wide for sure. But we’re also (or have been) questioning the keeper position, RB, CBs, second CDM alongside Palacios and striker, plus we know Leif’s position is targeted by the opposition. That’s pretty much the whole team. Bottom line is we’ve got players expected to punch above their weight and it doesn’t really matter what formation or what starting line up we play. | |

We are in the PL with a new side. We were playing the IN FORM team throughout the league and arguably Europe. Nuts to question these things in that context. Do explain which of these goals today was Leif's fault? [Post edited 8 Nov 20:24]

I think our biggest problem, as others have mentioned, is we're 2-4-3-1 a lot of the time. Davis was outstanding last season with the more defensive Furlong on the other side. Meant we could shuffle the remaining three across and still have a semblance of a full-back when Davis was creating goals. Now we've two attacking full-backs, who play more like wing-backs, and are too open. GON likes two wingers with chalk on their boots rather than wide-10s, so they're stranded wide on fast losing transitions. These two factors make us very attacking in wide areas. The second Hull goal exemplified this. Completely undone by one wide through-ball. Has made for plenty of goals this season, but guaranteed losses if our attackers have an off day like today. I seem to be in the minority, but I can't see how Florentino is earning his keep. Personally, I think switch to a 5-1-3-1. Then Ouattara and Davis can bomb on without leaving fatal gaps.
