Cobbold Stand Flooded
Cobbold Stand Flooded

The Cobbold Stand has suffered a flood after a pumping station on Alderman Road failed. Town are claiming compensation from Anglian Water for damage to carpets and floors in the Britannia Stand.

The problems occurred prior to the recent England U21 match, the second time there has been a flood of this type in the last year. On the previous occasion the club received compensation.

Anglian Water is aware of the problem which was apparently caused by high tides combining with storms to create an excess of water. The pumping station moves water from the Alderman Canal into tanks when the levels rise in order to avoid flooding.

Town also have concerns that the Portman Road pitch has been affected by salt water getting into the water table. Recent tests revealed that salt levels are higher than should be the case, possibly caused by issues at the West End Road Sluice where the fresh water River Gipping and the salt water River Orwell meet.

The Blues are set to speak to the Environment Agency regarding the salt problem, while Anglian Water are investigating the flood.
