Rhodes On Target Again
Rhodes On Target Again
Saturday, 15th Aug 2009 19:22

Former striker Jordan Rhodes continued his impressive start to his Huddersfield career with two goals as the Terriers beat Southampton 3-1 at the Galpharm Stadium. Only former Blue Kelvin Davis prevented a rout, making a number of fine saves.

Rhodes, who joined Huddersfield in a deal which could ultimately be worth £850,000 to the Blues, has now scored five goals from his first three games for his new club, one of those from the bench.

Meanwhile, Town’s one on-loan player, striker Kevin Lisbie, failed to net as top-of-the-table Colchester beat Yeovil 2-1. Ex-Blue Dean Bowditch missed out for the Glovers due to the shoulder injury he suffered last week and which will keep him out of action for four months.

Another former Town frontman, Richard Logan, scored for Exeter as the Grecians drew 1-1 with Norwich City and Darren Bent netted after five minutes of his Sunderland debut as the Black Cats won 1-0 at Bolton.

Sam Parkin scored his first goal for new club Walsall from the spot to claim a last minute 2-2 home draw against Southend and former loanee Mark Noble netted for West Ham as the Hammers won 2-1 at Wolves.

Elsewhere, Wolves are said to be chasing Bohemians pair Brian Murphy and Gary Deegan. As TWTD was first to reveal on Thursday, Murphy is set to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Blues, while manager Roy Keane confirmed that Deegan is a potential target on Friday.

Why o why did we fail to give this young man at least a chance to show that he is the goalscorer we so desperately needed 4 the last few seasons, sorry but its beyond me!!

Was a crazy decision. Natural goalscorers are so rare. Even if I'd personally been given the money for his sale, I'd still be gutted for what this means for Ipswich. Honest!

It's all very well 'rory293' saying Rhodes was a good money deal. We've got the backing of Mr Evans, so we don't need the money. Why sell a really good striker for peanuts and then find that we can't buy a replacement for less than three times his price?? Is Mr Evans really a businessman?? I don't think so. And Roy Keane?? Well. I've been supporting town for 50 plus years - we don't need or want an 'all mouth and no trousers' manager - do we? COYB

To be fair to Jordan Rhodes, he has always scored goals at whatever level he has played at (youth, reserves, Blue Square Premier, League 2, League 1) and it is not his fault that he did not get a chance at Championship level. The judgement of Magilton and Keane was that he wasn't quite good enough, but at the age of 19 I think he may prove them wrong, perhaps next season if Huddersfield get promoted. If Rhodes continues to score when Ipswich struggle to find the net, it is going to hurt a bit!

He's well on his way to 20 goal- even 30-season. Wherever
these type of players (natural goalscorers...) play they
are bought to the next level for their potential only
every year and some them make the grade some don't but at least they are usually given a decent chance in the club where they were brought up.He never ever even started a match for us...

The selling Jordan will come back to haunt us haunt us haunt is haunt us because it just doesn'tt make any sense in the first place. If you have a player like him coming up
you don't usually sell him for peanuts BEFORE GIVING HIM ANY SORT OF A CHANCE.I keep repeating this in my mind as long Jordan keep on scoring . I only hope that Connor Wickham will erade the memory of Jordan from our collective memory. But I fear the opposite.

I just don't understand this.I want to bang my head against a wall at this time of night. It's 4:33 AM here in Finland.
Now I want to be broven wrong in this but I'm almost certain it won't happen.

Zebra you are a complete moron"Is Mr Evans really a businessman??" what sort of statement is that about a man which has a multi-million pound buisness empire!!! Back to the topic, i was dissapointed to see Jordan go because he did look like he had something, but for nearing a million pounds by the time all the add ons are completed, it isnt bad value for money for what we have seen from him thus far but could very well come back to haunt us, it is a bit of a gamble and we do have to sell players aswell as just buy, even with a great financial backing any club has to wheel and deal

You all tend to forget that it was Jordens decision to leave,
The club merely allowed him to speak with huddersfield.

OOPs...meant to also add that perhaps his dad swayed his decision.
Was there a falling out with Rhodes senior at P/R.

People forget we were in a 'sell players to buy players' situation. RK recieved an offer that he seemed reasonable and allowed Rhodes to leave, which however unfortunate gave him the ability to bring in a proven goalscorer.
Rhodes has made 20 odd championship appearances and scored once. It's all well and good scoring 30 goals in league 1, but we're not in league 1, and thats what matters.
It may come back to bite us yes, or Rhodes could be destined to play lower league football for all his days. We won't know untill it happens, but there's no point dwelling over it.

Hi all Huddersfield fan here in peace,

Rhodes is certainly proving a good buy for us, he's the most natural goalscorer we've seen since Marcus Stewart - all beit early days yet.

I know a lot of you are up in arms about the Rhodes sale but shouldn't you be happy seeing him do well for us given the fee is performance related? You've sold a player you were unwilling to try at Championship level for a total of £850k.

Personally I do think we have the better deal but at the time we put up a hefty figure on a 19 year old unproven at league one level - it just seems it's paid off for us.

Good luck for this season, always look out for your results and Wickham looks like a great prospect. Keep the faith with Stead, once he's settled down at a club he'll score goals for fun.

Rory292 your stating the obvious my point is why ,before we sold him, didnt we give him a chance to prove himself in the championship? after all he played about 40 mins in the first team $ Jim scoring once, not a bad start even you can admit that!!!!

Wickets added 10:33 - Aug 16
ALSO RORY, RHODES HAS MADE 20 ODD CHAMP APP?????!!!!!

Rozz added 10:54 - Aug 16
Okay maybe not 20 odd haha, but still.. Roy gave him a chance, he played a big part of his pre-season campaign and everything pointed to Keane being ready to include him in his plans for the season.
He was willing to take 850,000 for him, which is reasonable, we've established that.
It was Rhodes' decision to leave. Keane allowed him to discuss terms and he ultimately decided he would rather play for them. He could've had a chance in the championship with us and fought for a 1st team place, but he didn't. We can't throw our toys out of the pram because the boy wanted to move.

So this decision may come back to haunt us? Maybe Huddersfield are just getting their own back on us for buying Marcus Stewart from them, which ultimately cost them promotion.
Whatever has happened here, Rhodes can not have featured too much in the plans of Keane otherwise he wouldn't have sold him if he thought he was an integral part of the squad. I know it has been said that if a reasonable offer came in for any of our players the club will listen, but don't you think that if any other clubs were intersted in buying say, R Wright, Norris, Peters, Walters who must be the integral part of our promotion chasing squad (albeit Norris out at the moment) those offers would have to be slightly more than reasonable, they'd have to be pretty damned good, which realistically is what the Rhodes offer was considering he hasn't actually proved himself for us. And before anybody says it, I know he wasn't given too much of a chance, but maybe he just simply isn't quite good enough and that's why. After all these type of players are watched in training and reserve games all the time. With Wickham being given a chance at such a young age I don't think anybody can say Keane doesn't like using youth.
We just need to forget Rhodes and move on, get behind the team and manager!!! COYB!!!

Anyone who knows football and player potential, knows that Jordan Rhodes will score goals - he is a natural goal scorer - a rare commodity in todays game.
Letting him go was one of the worst decisions ITFC have made over a long period of time - watch him score goals at whatever level he plays at - and regret the day he was allowed to leave. Keep it up Jordan - we will certainly rue the day you left.

i really think it was a crazy decision to let him go.. why could we not have kept Rhodes and Wickham... he is literally scoring goals for fun, i just wish i had had a bet on him to be league one top scorer, I was so convinced that he was going to break into the team this year, terrible decision to let him go!!!

Sorry about above, I'm not normally a man of such few words!
Yes, I was also sorry to see Jordan go but think about these points:-
If he was such a hot prospect, why was it just Huddersfield (with respect) that chased him? Why no Prem clubs with money to burn?
Could we play Jordan AND Connor in the same forward line? Two inexperienced lads in the deep end together.
Has he found his level? Is he a really good goalscorer in the lower leagues but would struggle in the Championship and above?
Worth thinking about.
Just asking...

I have it on good authority that Rhodes wanted to leave and yes his father wanted him out of the Club after all we did relieve Rhodes senior of his duties.
My only gripe is the size of the fee as I feel it should have been higher up front.
We now have to hope he does really well not only to boost his fee but to keep Huddersfield well above the budgies. We could well see Rhodes at Portman Road next season in Huddersfield colours. HTAFC - sorry but have my doubts about Stead a lovely lad and works hard but oh dear he is not polished and it would not be a bit surprised to see him move on - dare I say it to Huddersfield.
