Hearts Pair Linked
Hearts Pair Linked
Tuesday, 10th Nov 2009 09:10

Town are keeping an eye on Hearts pair Lee Wallace and Jose Goncalves, according to a tabloid report this morning. Manager Roy Keane is said have sent scouts to Scotland on a regular basis this season and is ready to offer £2 million for left-back Wallace in January.

Wallace, 22, came through the youth system at Hearts, making his senior debut in 2004. The Edinburgh-born defender won his first full Scotland cap in October, having previously played at U19, U20 and U21 levels. He is contracted to Hearts until 2012.

In 2006 Wallace was fined £1,500 for possessing an airgun and earlier this year was fined £1,100 after a bust-up with bouncers outside a nightclub.

Goncalves, 24, plays either at left-back or centre-half and is out of contract next summer. The Blues are said to be considering offering the former Portuguese U21 international a pre-contract agreement in January ahead of a Bosman move next summer.

The Lisbon-born defender previously played for Swiss sides Basel, Winterthur and Thun, having been brought up in Switzerland, in Italy with Venezia, in Lithuania with Kaunas and last season was on loan at Nuremberg in Germany.

The report also again claims that Town have had a bid turned down by Stoke for defensive pair Leon Cort and Danny Higginbotham, something which Roy Keane and Tony Pulis have both denied.

Meanwhile, Town’s reserves are in action against Haverhill Rovers in the quarter-finals of the LB Group Suffolk Premier Cup at Portman Road this evening (KO 7.45pm).

Hmm, with everyone saying how utterly wonderful David Wright has been since he came back why are we spending £2M on a left-back?

Surely even the Keane lovers (who claim that Keane single-handedly transformed Wright into a great player) would accept that that seems a bit unecessary.

And with the defence looking better maybe a centre-back could be set aside for a bit.

So a waste of money?

Personally, I think we have a perfectly capable squad at the moment we just need a manager to get the best out of them. Can Keane do it? Who knows. But it's not looking like it currently.

People give it to me on here, its ajoke considering what I am saying has mroe sense than any of you lot put together!

I bet Steedy £50 yesterday that Keane will either be sacked or will finish 13th or below! I think it may be the easiest £50 I ever made!

@callumgarryskeemer you wouldn't know a good player if he kicked you in the balls. Delaney is a very good CB which he has been proving in the last two games, and is only going to get better. Player of the year at Hull as a CB and Hull supporters were wondering why weren't playing him there all along. The only person I hope that won't here in Jan is you, can't we trade you for a budgie from Nodge?

IT IS A WORRY THAT WE MAY BE SPENDING BIG MONEY ON A lB after buying delaney and wright has been recalled to the team and done well.
Also a big concern is we cant seem to attract loan players ! look at how many the budgies attracted including lita .That is very strange ( that we cant get anyone in )

Hopefully nothing in these links, as we don't need a left-back. Our pressing priority is a striker who can score goals and this is where efforts and resources should be targeted. A strong solid centre back would be welcome too and a defensive midfielder, although maybe the latter won't be needed when Norris is back.

Re. Delaney, he has done well the last couple of matches but I would like more time to judge whether he is a good centre back. If he is, why did it take Keane 3 months to play him there when the defence has been so bad?

Re. Ferguson, yes, his team is bottom. However, he did get the team into the Championship from League 2 and has not spent £8m this season like Keane. Looking at the squad we have, most managers should be able to get us to around mid-table and return us to the days of winning most of our home matches. Which manager would be best is a matter for debate, but it increasingly looks like Keane is not the man for us.

Well lets hope he is sacked to avoid signing Wallace, never worth 2 million. Seen him a couple of times and I am shocked to reads thats how much we might offer. Dont know much about Goncalves, but a couple of blue nosed Rangers fans I know laughed when I asked them???

THE Big question is do Marcus Evans/Simon Clegg have humility to admit that they've made a whopping great mistake OR have the balls to sack Keane?

Nothing would give me greater delight than Keane succeeding as manager just so it p**ses that baffoon Callum Garry off. See you at the Sheffield Wednesday game Callum Garry? No? Figures...

Delaney has looked more than capable at centre back. I personally slated him at left back and rightly so, he was embarrassing, but he's looked far more assured in the centre as Wolves fans have been saying.

well I think (for whats it worth...) that ME isn't a bullet chairman, i may be surprised but deep down I think he would rather stick than twist, so either way, like keano or not we are going to have him for the forseeable future.

But the debate's are what get us all through the week and, agree or not, we all bleed the colour blue.

Lightningboy...the big question really is DO ME/SG think that they have made a "whopping" big mistake?

There seems to be a few "regulars" on here always calling for RK to be sacked/ostracised/castrated/shot etc...

But if you take the time,or are indeed sad enough like me, to read all of the posts properly, there seems to be more support for RK, than those of you who want him out.

Of course CGS could be right and all of those who support the team, no matter what, are a load of, how did he put it? Ah yes...twonks!!!! LOL

As for the young keeper, well i doubt he will be rotated, he is cover for the yoofs!

C'mon you blues 3 points on Saturday will do me very nicely

Yesterday McCann, today Wallace and Goncalves, tomorrow Wallace and Gromit? It's all a load of tabloid nonsense.

I hope Keane doesn't bring anyone else in. With the exception of Leadbitter can anyone honestly say that the team has been improved by any of his signings. I'd swap the current first team squad for the one we had a year ago; Haynes, Rhodes, Garvan and even Miller and Shumi are all missed, and think of the net spend in that time.

Message to Marcus Evans: Don't let Keane blow any more of your millions, save it for his replacement.

Wickedblue are you saying that Keane has been playing Delaney out of position for 3 months and if not for injuries and being forced to play him there, he would not be playing anyway for us to find out he is ok at centre back ?. Says alot for Keanes assessment of players !!

Keanish I would love for RK to succeed and take all the stick on here but you, me and everyone else Knows it aint gonna happen now, jan or next season. We will only succeed with him out!
Injured there may be more pro keaners but it dont mean they are all right! the people who want Keane out knwo the score!

I think our current back 5 our 'good enough' save the money, pluse some from a clear out of at least 3 so-called strikers, and another couple of million (2+2+2) and spend £6m on one goalscorer - he's the man who will get us up the table.
