Brentford Want to Extend Balkestein Stay
Brentford Want to Extend Balkestein Stay
Tuesday, 1st Dec 2009 16:22

Brentford boss Andy Scott is keen to extend Town defender Pim Balkestein’s loan spell into the new year. The Dutchman’s time at Griffin Park is due to end in the middle of December.

Scott says he wants Balkestein, Tottenham’s John Bostock and Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny to remain with his club: "We’ll try and make all the loans a bit longer in the next week or so.”

The former Heerenveen trainee has made two appearances for the Bees so far but wasn’t given permission to play in Saturday’s FA Cup third round win at home to Walsall.

Would be good for Pim. Not good enough at this level. A poor JM signing IMO.

Ha ha wow, poor Pim, a few seem to lack faith

I think he has tremendous potential and this loan is another chapter in his football education

Hopefully he'll come back all the stronger for it

He is still very young for a centre back, often they develop a little later on

Good luck to him!

He does have potential and a stay at Brentford would be good for him. As we don't actually need him at present and if he's happy there, it's a bit of a no-brainer...

I agree that he has potential, and regular first team footy at Brentford will only help him. When he comes back, Keano can assess him and if he has improved enough then he will be a useful member of the squad for next season. If nothing else, he has a scary Teutonic surname that should terrify opposition strikers, lol!

With teh back four starting to settle, Pim is less needed at the mo, so we shoudl extend his loan period if Brentford can make use of him. In an emergency we can recall him anyway, and he will be more experienced from his time at Griffin Park. Its win-win!

Pim will become a legend. Loan for rest of season will be good for him, playing regularly etc. Can't get rid - Phil & Gav have a shed full of Pims Tshirts to offload :D

McAuley is better than Pim by miles, Pim has potential and first team games at Brentford will do him good!!

It looks unlikely that PB will be involved much in our first eleven this season so I don't see why he is not allowed to play for Brentford against Walsall, if Brentford progress it might give them and us to assees PB against sterner opposition. Just so long as there is a clause in the loan agreement preventing him from playing against us if we draw Brentford in the next rounds. Maybe this is an indication that RK does rate PB and could use him in the Cup to save more senior players for the league?

I think Pim has a huge amount of potential, but is still pretty raw at the moment and is unlikely to dislodge McAuley or Delaney at the moment. This will be good for him. Physically, he may be quite well suited to the hurly burly of League One. He just needs to develop his distribution, but Andy Scott seems quite keen on a passing game and Brentford are a decent side, so this can only benefit him.

On a side note: John Bostock, one of the other loanees - is that the same schoolboy who went to Tottenham from Palace? Maybe he'll have a few words of advice for Connor Wickham (ie. 'don't do it!').

Since Delaney moved to CB the back line have been pretty good and no one is calling for changes - yet a month ago it was all about buying a new CB on here (I include myself - i was wrong about Delaney).

This whole situation reminds me of when a young Butcher and Osman were playing in the 'yoofs' and reserves. The main difference we did not need to send people out on loan then as the reserve league was a very good league. But still people people talked about them much in the same way they are talking about Pims and Smith who I predict will go on and become legends for us as long as we hold on to them.
