Magilton and Town Set for Court
Magilton and Town Set for Court
Monday, 8th Mar 2010 07:18

Former boss Jim Magilton has revealed he has yet to come to a financial settlement with Town regarding his Portman Road exit and that the matter is set to go to court. The Northern Irishman, who left his subsequent role as QPR boss earlier in the season, was sacked by the Blues last April with his contract due to run to this summer.

In an interview in the Belfast Telegraph, Magilton said: “I was 11 years at Ipswich Town as player and manager, but we couldn't reach an agreement and that’s going to court. The other one is in the process of getting done.”

The former midfielder says his experiences at Town and QPR haven’t put him off managing another club: “If an opportunity comes along, why not? I have no fear of going back into a job.

“I have hopefully learned from both experiences and hopefully that will stand me in good stead. The nature of how I left both clubs hasn’t put me off.”

Magilton says he has been interviewed for one management job since leaving QPR in December.

yeah they do earn loads but they will always want what they feel they are entitled too the same as anybody else.

This is a shame as I assumed that got sorted out when Magilton left the club. I thought managers were generally paid up until the end of their contracts when "sacked"?!

What can be the dispute, Magilton is entitled to his contract being paid up. If only we had a manager now who could get us into the mediocrity of 9th place.

Very sad to see this, many Town fans are still unhappy about the way Magilton was sacked, ie by phone when he was in NI visiting his sick mother, I wonder what Mr John would think about the way his club is now run.

Give Jim what's owed to him. He deserves it. A true Ipswich legend.

Town should pay up his contract, unless they can prove incompetance or gross misconduct in court, which is highly unlikely. So he can live a life of luxury doing what he pleases, whilst still being paid by Town & QPR. Nice, why can't I get a job like that?

This stage last season P 34 W 13 D 11 L10 GF 48 GA 37 GD +11 PTS 50
2 points off playoffs ,13 points behind leaders ,17 clear of relegation .
Lets hear again how Keane has progressed the club ?
He has taken a comfortable mid table team spent £8 million ,dismantled the side got rid of promising youngsters ,treated players who have performed well for us in the past badly, loaned out last seasons and this season top scorer when we cannot score, bought badly overall, filled the team with loan players very few of which will be here next season whatever happens .
But hey hes ROY KEANE so its ok give him time , Magic got sacked for not reaching the playoffs Keanes team of talented individuals who work hard can only dream of the top half !!

Jim just can't help causing even more trouble for the club can he. First he absolutely ruins our squad by taking all the quality from it and replacing it with pants, now he wants to take even more away from us.

This is a disturbing development. Our club has NEVER operated in a fast and loose fashion and if the manager is sacked he should be paid what he is owed - that's the way it always should work. Not good for the morale of the present manager either, especially considering our precarious position.

sort it out Marcus Evans, for all his shot comings as a manager, he should be paid what was due, the man bled for Ipswich. Good luck Jim.

It probably isn't as simple as some of the comments on here are making out. It may well be a dispute about which performance bonuses are to be paid, not the basic salary.

italiano, what chances of us finishing as high in the table this season? Oh, I suppose that's all Jim's fault too....

What an absolute mess. Why wasn't this sorted out back in April 2009?

at the end of the day the cost of this will just be added to the debt that already exists & when m.e. decides he's given himself enough publicity & has finished running up even more debt with the hapless keane ,we might be left in a worse state than when he arrived.

What an absolute disgrace, give Jim what he is owed, a contract is a contract and should be honoured. He was also a good and loyal player, this is a class example of how low we've sunk, in the league and our reputation. Next we'll here about marcus Evans doing dodgy dealings with Olympic tickets.....oh too late!!

Nevadablue, there is no doubt that over half of Keane's signings have been nothing short of terrible. Only Leadbitter, Delaney and Rosenior have really shone.

BUT for me, this is only 50% of the story. The other 50% is that fact that he took over an absolutely dire squad, and a club in a complete mess. Yes, on the pitch, things still haven't gelled, but he's had to start afresh from a load of crap. The other major changes he's made have been off the field. He's taken us from a being a prestigious club to being a presitigious club with excellent facilities off the field like those that he experienced as a player at Man Utd and Celtic one would hope.

As I've admitted above, his signings have been bad. But as long as he keeps us up this season, I think Keane will lead us up, up and up. I think he'll have learnt a lot as a manager this year.

Last season was the WORST football I've ever seen us play. EVER. How we managed to finish near play-offs was just because the standard of the league was AWFUL. We are playing GOOD FOOTBALL this season, we just have lost confidence in front of goal.

And don't forget, without all those lapses in concentration early on that cost us a million goals in stoppage time, we'd have 14 more points and be sitting right below the play-offs. There is a lot less wrong with our team now than there was with fking Jim Magilton at the helm. How people still call him a "legend" for one good match he had for us in the play-offs is beyond me.
