Keane Considering Deadline Move
Keane Considering Deadline Move
Monday, 22nd Mar 2010 10:07

Boss Roy Keane says he’s weighing up whether to bring in a further loan player before Thursday’s emergency deadline. Meanwhile, the Town manager says there have been no further progress regarding Brentford’s offer for central defender Pim Balkestein.

Last Thursday, Keane revealed that he was considering whether to make another addition to his squad, but says that as yet there have been no developments: “I’ve made no progress, but it’s something in the back of my mind and I know we’re running out of days. We’ll see over the next few days. We’ll see after tomorrow night.”

Brentford have made an offer of a loan leading to a permanent move for Balkestein, who was on loan at Griffin Park earlier in the season, but Keane says there has been no progress on the potential move: “I’ve left it with the chief executive. They made an offer last week and I’ve left it with him.

"They’re keen on Pim, but he played for the reserves last week and trained with us yesterday and, as long as he’s here, like every other player he’ll have a chance.

“There’s no point in me speaking to the player as I don’t think anything’s been agreed [between the clubs]. I spoke to his agent briefly for a couple of minutes last week. Unless it’s taken further I’ll focus on working with the players.

“If something was agreed, then obviously I would speak to Pim. We’re fairly pleased with Pim, I have to say.”

mripswitchtown, he may well start off the next season, but he will have to hit the ground running, if we dont get the results from the outset, he will be gone very quickly i think .I cant believe M E will let the season stumble along like this one .

Stumbling along - exactly right thingymagee - that's what we're doing. I've been supporting ITFC since 1974 (some of you experts - that means going to matches)and this is the most "stumbling" I've ever seen; even worse than J Duncan's time as manager.
My point is that people have every right to "moan" and doubt RK - it doesn't mean we're Canaries or "Kn*b Jockeys", its just that sometimes it seems like RK hasn't got a clue what he's doing. Simple as that.

All this knocking Keane.... and of course everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I wonder - is anyone able to tell me where Town would be in a league that excluded the first 10 games? That would be a good measure on Keane's progress.
And of course, if we could have just converted 5 of those many draws into wins....

If that -10games tables shows us in the playoffs, I'd be happy with progress given the amount of change.

BluePhilG - since we last played Plymouth we have won 39 points. After that match we were bottom of the league with 8 points. Other teams in that period:
Newcastle 50 points; West Brom 50; Notts Forest 44; Swansea 42; Leicester 40; Cardiff 32; Plymouth 29 (had just changed their manager).
So we are just about playing at playoff level - given the poor start, the consequent lack of confidence, and the number of changes I think that is creditable - more than I for one expected at that time. I think Keane has proved his mettle by not cracking - particularly in that sequuence of 14 games without a win. Looks to me as if he has now solved our defensive problems - and every good team is built on a solid defense. Other areas still need attention. We would in my opinion be very foolish to change managers now.

over the last half season (23 games), i think we have 36 points, double that and you'd have 72 for the season, which is pretty much where Cardiff are heading at the moment

If we win against Plymouth tomorrow, we should all be feeling quite safe from relegation but with no chance of the play-offs. That being the case, is it wise to spend money on wages for another loan player? For me the summer signings are the most important and this is where our resources should be focussed. We will need to do better than last summer with the likes of Martin and Priskin coming in for around £3m.

i hope he's thinking of loaning out Carlos Edwards, he is fast becoming the worst signing of the season

"Message to all keane outers! if you want keane out then ur going to be disappointed! as hes going to have another season, so stop chanting him out and get behind him!" and PUSH if we all push hard enough he will be gone if we don't it will be our club that is woebegone

Bluetone - a handful of people posting anti-Keane messages on this site won't make bit of difference to Marcus Evans.

"PUSH if we all push hard enough he will be gone if we don't it will be our club that is woebegone" You sound like a bolton fan Bluetone. Give Keano a break he's still learning. Why do you want to push out a potentially great manager?

@ dirtydingusmagee

The difference between your if - "IF i picked the right numbers in the lottery last week id be rich, BUT I DIDNT ,AND I AINT" - and BluePhilG's if - "If that -10games tables shows us in the playoffs, I'd be happy with progress given the amount of change. - is that you have a 14million to one chance of winning the lottery and didn't win, and we may have actually been playing at play-off standard, for that period of time. The latter is thus important in assessing progress since Keane's arrival.

To be clear, you are making a comparison between something preposterous and something possible, which is rather moronic, or if deliberate, rather pathetic, and counter-productive the any real point you may wish to make, if indeed you have one...

I realise what you are saying Kropotkin, my example [lottery] was wrong,i just mean you cant go on saying or thinking IF or IF ONLY, .....IF only we had been given a penalty IF only we hadnt conceded one , IF only we had scored more than opposition .That was my point .

BluePhilG added 13:20 - Mar 22
I wasnt looking at "Ifs"... well, ok I did say "IF" we convernted some of those draws.

But in anycase, I am looking at measuring progress, over the last 20-30 games. I think, after the changes, thats probably a good measure of where Keane is now, and then we can all Hope that he progresses further next season.

Strange. I was reading the article, then the comments and instead of people "commenting" on the potential loan signing it has turned into a massive lovers tiff.

Now - back to business, is it really worth getting a loan signing in for 8 more games??? We certainly have the squad to cope, unless of course Keane is gonna get someone in who he wants to sign next season.

Ok, I am not a Keane 'Hater'... I just dont think he is the right man for this Job. (Just to get that out of the way first)

My point here is going to be....

Who can actually be happy with how we are playing at the moment, and have been for this entire season. Saturday was my all time low as an Ipswich Fan... The first 20mins were fantastic, but then it just collapsed..... I have never seen us play, and be setup so negatively... 4-5-1 for the last 15mins absorbing pressure.... IT WAS DIRE to watch...

I know some people blame the players for this, but 50% of a squad dont just go bad over the course of a season.. Keane is having a bad effect on this club and i worry where it is going...

For all those who doubt me, i am a true blue through and through and have followed for many years and will continue to, but doesnt mean i have to just accept everything that is going on...

'Well see after tomorrow night' good grief, if he doesn't know by now if he wants to strengthen something is wrong!

Or maybe he's just waiting to see if there are any injuries - but I doubt it.

Keano - sort out who you want and stick with it, stop making knee jerk reactions.

It's amazing how the "pro-keano's" are always the first to resort to abusing their "fellow" town supporters whenever someone dares to have a go at Sir Roy's management...
