Wright Thanks Fans
Wright Thanks Fans
Friday, 7th May 2010 10:44

Released defender David Wright has thanked fans for supporting him during his three and a half years at the club. The former Wigan and Crewe man has been told his contract will not be renewed when it’s up at the end of June.

Wright told the club site: "I've had three fantastic years here and some great memories in that time. I've enjoyed a good relationship with the fans and been lucky enough to have had their support and I want to thank them for that.

"I came here to help Ipswich get in the Premier League though, so there is that sense of disappointment that I have not achieved that.

"I've got to think about the future now though. I'd like to find a club as soon as possible so that I can get my family settled before the new season gets under way."

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been somewhat unconvincingly linked with Connor Wickham. The Magpies are understood to be relatively short of cash in the summer and are unlikely to spend what would be a significant proportion of their funds on a 17-year-old, while the Blues frontman would almost certainly not to want to move to St James' Park even if Town were willing to sell.

If he really wanted to thank the fans he should have put his feelings towards Keane to one side and not made himself "unavailable" for the final game of the season. I would have given him a new contract, but this insight into his character has opened my eyes to one of the reasons why Keane has not.

Never the worse player we've had these past few 'dark' years. Only time will tell if we have made a mistake. I wish him all the best, if it be at Norwich then so be it. He has to think of his family before loyaty to a team that don't want him any more!

Who cares keane didnt go to the awards evening - maybe he felt strongley that no one deserved any awards? after all how many of the players admitted not playing 100%????

He went to Youth games, reseve games, all over the uk - yet you slate him for missing this - to me it shows great guts shows that celebrating loosing isn't his thing!.

D.Wright - keeps saying happy happy things, somethings not quite right with this, he keeps making sure he has his say, where as R.Wright and the others who have left have had one interview and left it at that, yet D.Wright wants more - Sour Grapes!!!!!!!!!.

One of our most consistent defenders in recent times. Shame to see him go.

If you remember David Wright seemed to be the voice of the team a while ago, one point we thought he might be the new skipper. Perhaps he just likes talking!

Best of luck David - you are one of a rare breed of decent, hard-working players who is also a very down to earth nice bloke.

I met him at the Players Awards Sunday and he was the least intimidating one there, along with Delaney who was also very lovely.

I totally died inside when I saw Walters, had my photo taken with him, got my bloody ring caught in his jumper, he probably thought I was groping him trying to free it! (Maybe I was.. maybe I wasn't....).

I said to David Wright "he's making a mistake letting you go", to which he replied "yes I know"!

Jay - An Honest Professional would have said, Roy is the manager and it's his choice, if he feels that it's best for both parties then who am I to disagree.

Otherwise he's blowing his own trumpit when realisticlly he is't really that good.

Superflude go get a room with Keane ,your comments are from someone who said we would finish 5th this season in the poll your view and comments are always without factual base and just hope that things will get better.
Wright has been one of our best defenders for two seasons and his clean sheets and wins to games started is better than anybody else at the club,so just thank him and wish him the best like a supporter should for a player who has done well for the club .

Surco - i wasn't the only one who said - at the beginnign of the season we'd finish high im sure you did - or did you wish for relegation?
and yes i did support D.Wright when he was a town player - he isn't now so bye bye.
He needs to man up , stop moaning about being let go, if he was good enough he'd be staying- he's not so he isn't why is that so hard for you to understand?

and Surco - regarding his stats
I remember you and others saying we can't blame R.WRight for the bad defence at the beginning of the season - so why can you then claim the D.Wright was to thank as the defence was sorted out???
the clean sheets doesnt make D.wright better, he was just part of a better team!.
IF HE WAS THAT GREAT WHY WAS HE NOT PLAYER OF THE SEASON???

Superblueflude, is that what you would say about your boss if you got fired?
0

superblueflude added 12:52 - May 7
Diertmar - difference, my contract isn't at an end, they wouldnt be saving mega wages either. And if Keane has a replacement in mind whos out of contract and better then it's certainly a better move for the club.

Superflude the poll was done a few months ago and still you said we would be in the playoffs even though we didnt manage to get in the top half all season !!!
And just because he didnt win player of the year doesnt make him a player to get rid of or we would only have one player left each season surely ?
Stop agreeing with everything Keane does and have your own viewpoint when he dropped Mac you agreed (player of the year ) when Garvan wasnt playing and we hadnt won a game in 16 you agreed ,when he came back and we had our best spell of the season before again being cast aside it was because Keane had made him a better player GET REAl !!
We support Ipswich Town not Roy Keanes PR Wagon ,well done Wright and good luck

Surco - why do i trust Keane - because he's our manager and until he either quits or gets sacked then we have to trust him, us fans cant change anything can we? and it bores me to deaf to just sit and write crap about how bad the team is how bad keane is when for all we know behind the scenes he could be working wonders. Also my Poll is called optism id rather be optimistic than doom and gloom otherwise whats the point?
Yes D.Wright was ok, one of the better players but that doesnt automatically mean he deserves a contract, and I didnt say we should get rid off because he didnt win player of the year, im saying if he was good enough he would have stayed. And to be fair i wasn'[t the only one who agreed and wanted Mac's dropping at the beginning i wasn't the only one who can see Garvan isn't the type of player you need for certain games, I just think what ever Keane does you and the others wll hate, and also pick up on any misktake - he's a young manager why not support and let him make mistakes rather than slate and moan at everything, afterall im sure you had to learn your trade somewhere, or im guessing you were brilliant from the start?
And if your answer is yes but Keane wont take us up or hes the wrong man etc - blame Evans - i do and will, I know there are better managers out there to get us up, i keep saying give keane a 5 year contract let him build a team rather than buy players to take us up straight away - for me D.Wright would have stayed if this was the case.

i totally understand them making themselves unavailable, would you risk getting injured and not being able to pass a medical at a new club, i think not. good luck to them both

A decent player for the club, dependable without being above average championship player. Wouldn't have cut it in the Prem, and am confident that RK has already lined up a decent replacement - why else let DW and LR go? Unless he sees Jamie Peters as our left back next year.............
