Trotter and Wickham on Winning Sides
Trotter and Wickham on Winning Sides
Tuesday, 18th May 2010 21:49

Town duo Liam Trotter and Connor Wickham were both involved in victories on Tuesday evening. Trotter’s loan club Millwall defeated Huddersfield 2-0 at the Den in their League One play-off second leg, while Wickham’s England U17 side beat the Czech Republic 3-1 in their first group game at the European U17 Championships.

Millwall’s 2-0 aggregate victory means Trotter will play in the League One play-off final for the second year running, having beaten his current loan club when with Scunthorpe a year ago. Swindon will be the Lions’ opponents at Wembley.

Former Blue Scott Barron was again impressive for Millwall, while Jordan Rhodes and Gary Roberts were in the Huddersfield side.

Wickham was involved in England’s second goal and came close on a number of occasions, in addition to picking up a booking, as the Czech Republic were seen off 3-1 at a virtually empty stadium in Liechtenstein.

The England youngsters now take on Greece on Friday and end their group games when they face Turkey on Monday.

Just Watched Jordan Rodes, hell Keano got that one right, good money received for a very average div 1 player. How trotter stayed on for 90 minutes I'll never know, another player playing at the right level! Never in a million years would we ever get near promotion with players like these. Good work keano glad we are looking at charactors rather than players who are only comfortable playing at home. Mention no names plablo, garvin!

You cannot judge Rhodes on one game where his whole team didnt perform ,what about the 30 plus goals he has scored in last two seasons for a 20 year old ?
And Trotter looked equally as bad and he was played in our first team for the start of the season and has been offered a new contract ,where is the spot on judgement there ?

A season is a long time. Just read the BBC report of the Millwall/Huddersfield clash...and noted reference to the substitution of 'the ineffectual Jordan Rhodes' ...

agree that you can't judge the 2 players on one game but, do think we got good money for rhodes and there was other factors involved in him leaving (his dad). As for trotter still undecided he may come good.
Did anyone see the bad treatment connor got from that ref everytime he touched someone it was a foul, and no way was that a booking.

Scott Barron's looking good. Always thought we let him go too early and, given our current lack of options down the left, he'd be quite a useful player to have around.

Surco72- I believe that offering Trotter a contract was a shrewd business decision by the club. By offering him a contract it means that if (or when) he signs for another club (Millwall or Scunthorpe) on a 'Bosman' we are due compensation which is determined by a tribunal, as he is under-24 and has been offered a deal by his parent club.
If we hadn't offered gim a deal then he could go for free.

el - nino if that is the case and we are looking to offload him then that is indeed good business but for me Keane likes something in Trotter, training ,attitude i dont know, but he was continually selected at the start of the season without putting in one good performance .Like Walters at the end of the season .We shall see .

At last people are beginning to realise that Rhodes and Trotter would not have been able to cut it in the Championship. There is a big gulf in the standard of football and last night even in Div 1 both of these players looked average at best. In defence of Rhodes yes he has scored goals which is how you are judged
but I am convinced he would not come up to the plate in the Championship. In my opinion another correct decision by Roy Keane.

Thought Scott Barron and Liam Trotter both had an excellent game, one we got rid of the other is likely to go! Shame we won't see how Rhodes get on at the Championship level for at least another year!

I wonder if any of you lot actually watched the game last night.

Jordan's "ineffectualness" was partly down to the rest of the squads decsion to ditch their usual ball-on-floor playing style, opting for a very uncharacteristic long-ball game plan.

I felt sorry for Jordan as the service just wasn't there.

Sometimes i wonder if the people that comment on here actually watch the game!
Totally agree with Johnny Boy and how Huddersfield didn't play their usual way!
Thought Trotter had a good game and think if he had a run of games for town he will become a very good player for us!
People watch one game and judge a player on that perfromance! Trotter is very good at what he does!Win the ball and gives it,always plays simple!

If we write-off Rhodes on the basis of one ineffective game, away from home against tough League One opposition, presumably we also write off Lee-Barrett, Delaney, McAuley, Rosenior, Leadbitter, Garvan, Peters, Colback, Edwards, Walters and John as not being good enough for the Championship then? That was the starting line up which lost at League One Southampton in the FA Cup.

It was a mistake to sell Rhodes. He scored 19 goals in 45 games this season, and is still only 20-years-old. Are Huddersfield fans regretting buying him? I think not!

Also, remember that we added £1M+ to the fee we got for Rhodes, and presumably took on a salary about five times as high, by bringing in Priskin. Priskin is 3 years older than Rhodes and scored only 2 in 30 for Ipswich and QPR this season.

Kris21 Trotter had a run of games under Magic and was rubbish and shipped out. First 15 games or so of this season he was awful and shipped out.

He won't cut it at Championship level. Looks to casual and slow. Needs a good kick up the backside

Do we have to keep going on about players that use to be here, i.e Rhodes! we sold him, yes he has had a good season in the league below and i hope he develops into a good footballer in the future but lets concentrate on our team.
If Millwall offer Liam a transfer then i would sell him as i don't see him getting in in front of Norris, Leadbitter,Walters,Chevelli,O'Conner or Garvin and thats without Keano bringing anyone else in, We as supporters and a club have to look towards the future and not at players that didn't cut the mustard at CCC level. Not so much Rhodes as he didn't get a chance really but defo Liam, NOT good enough.

Selling Jordan Rhodes has not been that good a piece of business. If we want to buy a 20 goal a year div 1 player it would cost us 2m. That said without him playing at Huddersfield he would not have developed into a 20 goal a year div 1 player.
#I don't think you can expect a manager to get every decision right. It has to be on the balance of his purchases. Keanos buys have included some real gems and some utter tosh.
He seems to be able to spot good hard working players well, but so far he hasn't signed good flair players. Unlike others I am not saying he does not try to pick them... just that so far the few he tried to find turned out to be Tamas Priskin and Healy.
Interesting interview with David Jones at Cardiff. He said that during the season he was trying not to get the players too excited at a win or too depressed at a loss. The players needs to look at the way they played not just the result and that was the way to build a resiliant team spirit.
Interesting contrast to heart on the sleeve passion, eh?
