Irish Friendly Falls Through
Irish Friendly Falls Through
Thursday, 15th Jul 2010 19:05

Town’s planned friendly in Ireland has fallen through. As reported on Tuesday, the Blues were trying to arrange a game against League of Ireland opposition for the middle of next week, but no match could be organised.

The club had hoped to play three friendlies as part of a Dutch tour, but in the end were only able to arrange Saturday’s game at PSV, a fixture against 1981 UEFA Cup final opponents AZ Alkmaar was amongst those targeted. The friendly in Ireland was to replace those proposed matches.

Town are now looking to organise an alternative game nearer to home in the days after Saturday’s PSV match.

Meanwhile, former Blues striker Sam Parkin has signed a two-year deal with SPL side St Johnstone having been released by Walsall at the end of last season.

One game in Ireland wouldn't have been that bad since they are already playing competitively and would have made good opposition in terms of fitness and sharpness. However a game nearer to home will be good since I'll have a better chance of going. I just wonder how long it will take for someone to blame Keane for his obvious lack of contacts and tactical ability as well as lack of man management to not even arrange a game in Ireland. YAWN

And only the other day so many people had so many positive things to say about our preseason.

Guess we must have refused to buy any more of the oppo's dodgy players.

to be honest i have never known such a farce of a pre-season. Those in charge dont seem to be able to organise a p*ss up in a brewery.

Surely the Dagenham Girl Pipers Under-10s Soccer Team can fit us in? It's important that we get matches against opposition of similar quality to ourselves.

People moaned when it was announced, now they moan when it falls through. Laughable.

So it's been a flawless pre-season has it? I guess we won both the games!

I think the 'moaning' as you call it when it was announced was more banter than abuse. I do However get p@@@@d off when we can't organize a blinking friendly game, and don't get me starting about the actual football and maybe signing a few players?

Glad Keane stayed away from the World Cup to arrange a better pre-season than last year. Them Canaries must be laughing their little green and yellow scummy socks off at the antics of our club!!!

DTB, as much as we hate our country cousins up the road you can't but wish we had what they are getting, makes me sick to think what might happen in the local derbies this season,

This is nothing to do with Keane but it is a shambles. We have two weeks between the PSV game and West Ham fixture. That's at least a week too long between friendly games, what a boring time for the players. Even if you assume they put out the first team at Leiston it's still 10 days and local non-league teams are fine for an early pre-season run out but hardly ideal in the middle of pre-season. If it felt like a delibrate plan fine but it has all the signs of a chaotic set-up behind the scenes. If I were Keane i would be in screaming at Clegg or whoever in Cleggs team has messed up

WubbleU - spot on. It is worrying that with supposedly top people running our club we no longer seem to be able to even organise a preseason properly! Never known anything like it and sadly seems to be rather symptomatic of just about everything at the club for the last 2 years.

If Keano wants a pre season game he needs to come down to bourne park on sunday and play my sunday team.

We need the practice!

I wouldnt be going slagging off Keane,Clegg or the club for failing to organise a game in Ireland as the FAI here in Ireland have already become the first ever football association not to allow Barcalona visit and play a pre season game.Barca were looking for a friendly game against Limerick a club thats totally broke and the powers that be wouldnt allow it as it "clashed with other fixtures" which is a load of tw$t,they are only interested in the Irish national teams forthcoming game against Argentina and filling the ground for that at crazy prices than to allow league clubs make a few much needed quid.If anyone wants someone to blame id be looking firmly in their direction.

A Sunday morning pub side would be better organised than this. What IS going on at this club

Its not just the Irish match that has fallen through. There were the other two games in Holland that failed to materialise. The running of this club is a shambles. I thought the appointment of Clegg would see this club being run as a thoroughly professional outfit. Sadly I was wrong. Exactly what does he do to earn his money?

He earns his money as being the modern day Sooty a puppet who does what his master tells him to do.

We have 33 registered players, why not just stay at home and have an A team vs B team match?

This would be at least as competitive as most friendly games, possibly more so as those in the B team ought to be pushing for a starting place against Middlesbrough.

Although I'm not too impressed with the long break from PSV to West Ham, I think it's laughable that the same poster who were posting “What rubbish we shouldn't be playing pre-season games against Irish sides, they are not good enough!”, are now moaning that we couldn't arrange a game against an Irish side… Come on guys have a little consistency… please!
