Martin Joins Charlton On Loan
Martin Joins Charlton On Loan
Friday, 6th Aug 2010 20:04

Midfielder Lee Martin has joined League One Charlton Athletic on loan for the season. The Addicks were first linked with a move for the 23-year-old a fortnight ago.

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson says he's delighted to make the signing: "We're really pleased to get Lee in on a year's loan.

"He's a tremendous young player and great acquisition for our squad, He can also play up front or in either wide position.

"What's more, all his family are in Bromley, so he's a local boy.

"It's been another long, protracted deal, but as I've been saying all along, [chairman] Richard [Murray] and I would rather wait for the players we want to fit into the squad and the overall jigsaw we're trying to piece together, and Lee certainly falls into that category.”

Martin moved to Portman Road from Manchester United for a fee reported to be anywhere from £1.6 million to £2 million last summer, signing a four-year deal but has failed to live up to his billing.

Town are likely to be paying a large proportion of the former Wimbledon trainee’s £13,000-a-week wages while the winger is with the south London club.

Martin has been given the number 10 shirt at the Valley and is set to make his debut in a home game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

This will be good for Martin as he hadnt been in Roy Keanes plans and i believe since his move to Ipswich he hasnt shown anyone the quality that he actually has

cant decide whats the best news of the night.....scum losing...or town getting rid of what i consider to be one of the feeble,lightweight,over-rated players ever to wear a town shirt....still dont say much for keanes judgement...12k aweek!!! dont get much for your money these days

Firstly I don't believe he's on £12 grand a week ,and if he is why is it keane's fault doesn't he just get the players down here and then clegg sorts out the contracts !!!

Hope he regains some confidence, bangs in some goals and comes back all the better next season (or sooner)..but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work out and he just disappears without trace over the coming years..doesn't seem to have enough "character",which is why I wonder why keane bought him in the first place.

Something ain't right behind the scenes at ITFC...one minute we're spending £20M,now we're desperately offloading half the squad with no real replacements coming in...very worrying.

I hope that he goes there and has a decent season and comes back strongly with us but can't see it happening. Possibly one of the worst signings this club has ever made. What makes it worse is that he has had previous loan spells at Plymouth, Sheff Utd, Forest and Rangers and failed at every one of them. What prompted us to pay that much for him and give him such stupid wages? Unfortunately it seems that these kind of terrible signings are the cause for the lack of activity this summer, hence why we go into a new season tomorrow with a very poor squad. I fear for a relegation battle this season unless we bring some quality in.

Great that he has a new chance...he was very poor for us, and I wondered who thought that he was good enough to play for ITFC...if he comes back, I hope that he can shoot, cross and tackle...none of which he did here.

No matter how hard the manager is trying to bring new players and talent in why is it that Roy Keane always gets stick from his own fans. I dont think the team performed well last season but im always going to be behind Ipswich Town and Roy Keane no matter what.

Another poor decision by Keane. First, to pay so much and high wages. Second, after one year he is written off effectively. We are paying part of his wages to play for someone else. Keane was supposed to know him from his time at Man U. Has not taken much time for him to write him off. The fact that Keane thinks he can do nothing with him does not say much for even his own view of his man- management skills. Keane Out!

i'm backing keano all the way. Alright he made mistakes with the price tags of priskin and martin, but there's not alot a manager can do when a player doesnt play to the best of their abilities! fans need to back keano. We've got a decent squad, worthy of making the top half of the table. Give it another week and we'll bring in a striker.. it sounds like keano's got a few targets so we're bound to sign one.. then the squad will have a much needed boost and with a bit of luck we should make the play offs!

Why are we having this massive clearout? Did ME lose a load of money running his 2nd rate hospitality in South Africa? Why people keep bleating on about how they support Roy Keane, I don't know. His record here stinks. He hasn't bought one good player, he spent a shed load of cash on players we can't give away. We've had one of our worst seasons ever. All we get is his pathetic press conferences where he tries to sound like he knows something about football. All he knows about is his ego. He is all talk. what we need is football manager who knows something about football not the sad ramblings of an ex-Man Utd hero. And as for character, where was he for Ireland when they needed him?

I am exceptionally impressed by RK so far, he is such a wily guy, getting average players at high price and shelving them while continuing to rack up high wage bills..... he is on anther clear out binge, a follow-up to last year's successful exercise..... and he has almost got rid of other average players left at the club with not much replenishment in sight.... he is going to register himself as the new striker for Ipswich Town to salvage this season..... hurray RK, you are the BEaST!

Can Someone please explain to me why All our deals are happening within the final week before the season starts and into the season when clearly it was the clubs intention to sort all this in early pre season?

This just feels like poor organisation all round and I'm moe accepting another start to the season like last year!!
