Keane Could Make Changes For Reading Monday, 27th Sep 2010 14:08
Boss Roy Keane says he is considering making changes to his side for Tuesday’s game at Reading (KO 8pm) with a number of unnamed players suffering from knocks from the weekend draw at Scunthorpe.
Keane says he will decide which of those players are fit to play and whether to make any other changes in the next couple of days: “One or two of the boys picked up knocks over the weekend. They were in this morning, we’re in again tomorrow morning before we travel down and we’ll make a decision then on the boys who’ve got knocks. We’ll play it by ear over the next few hours.
“We’ve got good options if I decide to make changes, lads coming back and lads who were on the bench the other day.”
Left-back Shane O’Connor is back in training after his hamstring injury, while midfielder Luciano Civelli will be involved in a reserves friendly next week as he continues his recovery from his multi-ligament knee injury. Alan Quinn remains the only player sidelined long-term with his groin problem.
Keane is continuing to look for two more loan signings but expects nothing to happen this week: “There are no developments whatsoever.”

Looking forward to this one. I dont think we'll lose this fixture. The only thing to watch out for is the fact Reading have hit good form recently. They won in front of their fans 3-0 on Saturday and will fancy themsleves again infront of the same crowd three days on. But we're no mugs oursleves. including cup matches we've only lost 1 in 11 matches this season, albeit to QPR who. A point would look good on paper... but i fancy us sneaking this one if we come out of the blocks quickly. Fullop Peters Mac Smith Kennedy Hyam Norris Leadbitter Edwards Townsend Priskin oh and townsend to score his first for the blues ;)

Why does everybody want Connor Wickham to start up front against Reading. We need someone who can hold up the ball, Connor's close control is poor at the present time and his lack of ability in the air to the long ball is obvious.I am sure he will come good but an older head is needed so start with Scotland.

I think Keane has to make changes due to the below par performance at Scunthorpe. I would take a point away tomorrow as long as we win both are home games coming up. A win at Reading would be a fantastic result and some goals too!! In all competitions this month so far we have scored 5 and conceded 5 but i would take a one nil win any day of the week. COYB

Be amazed it RK doesn't go back to 4-5-1 against Reading. He was saying he thinks he got the formation wrong against Scunny so bound to go one up top, which will be Scotland. Time to get Delaney back in for me. Smith's a good lad but wins very little against big centre forwards. We will need Delaney and Macaulay to stay in the top six so I say get him in now. From what I've seen of him Livermore he looks more of a holding midfielder but I might be wrong. Fulop Eastman Macaulay Delaney O'Dea Hyam/Livermore Norris Leadbitter Edwards Townsed Scotland

There are a few in need of a rest, eg.Smith, Hyam (the find of the season) and Scotland. The problem for Leadbitter & Norris is not tiredness in my opinion, simply that they are too similar for 442, neither shield the defence, both small CM's who need the freedom to get up and down the pitch, definitely better in a five man midfield. What Warnock correctly identified (and most others will copy) is that when pressed high up the pitch Eastman, McAuley, Hyam, Norris, O'Dea, Leadbitter etc, havent got the craft to create space for themselves and build from the back. The only option then is the long ball, with a Walters outlet no longer up there (and he didnt have a lot else to his game). I think Livermore coming in is an effort to address that, he may have the composure to build the play. The problem with Peters at RB (as all opposition have identified) is that he hasnt got a defenders instinct and will continually be beaten at the back post, with goals and chances resulting. Although I dont like 352, it would best suit the defenders available, though the lack of an experienced holding player means there is prob little chance of it being used. McAuley, as well as the best CB at the club, is also the only capable RB imo. 433: Fulop; Eastman or Peters, McAuley, Delaney, O'Dea; Norris, Livermore, Leadbitter; Edwards, Priskin,Townsend. 352: Fulop; McAuley, Delaney, O'Dea; Edwards, Norris, Livermore, Leadbitter, Townsend or Peters; Wickham, Priskin.

Think we'll win tomorrow but would take a point if it were offered as it's a tough place to go. On a separate note, I don't think the status comparison with George Burley/Palace really holds much water to be honest does it? Frankly, it's a ridiculous point to make that George is somehow doig a bad job as we've seen Palace only once this season and after all the upheaval they've endured of late, their league position is hardly surprising. I don't think we're best placed to pass judgement on events at Selhurst Park!!

Wait a minute all you Burley knockers. The man has just taken over at Crystal Palace, get off his back he will do a good job there. But like Keane he has to change the team unlike Keane he doesn't have the money to do it. Having said that... @ChambersM luckily what you think doesn't mean a hill of beans to anyone. You don't like Keane we get it. Trying to score points like you are doing only makes yourself look like a prize pillock. Under even Sir Bobby Robson there were games where we would have quite happy took a point if offered before the game. So stop with the it was so wonderful under Burley and Royle...Many a game I would take a point knowing it to be a hard one...Reading is such a game, but no one is going to offer us a point so here's to winning it!

ChambersM, hate to tell you but we are currently averaging over 1.87 point per game. If we continued at that rate we would end up with around 86 points. If you look back on history that will be more than enough to get us into the play-offs and in some cases automatic promotion. Guess what, to get 86 points you'd have somewhere in the vicinity of 10-12 draws so taking the odd draw is expected. Having said that, I agree with you we shouldn't take a draw before we start the game, always look to be winning every game. But also have no doubt RK and the players will also be looking at winning rather than drawing when they take the pitch.

IF we continued with that rate, hmmmm. Btw ive barely mentioned clowno in this post so im not trying to 'score points'...if anything im having ago at all you lot for demanding promotion and then wanting draws from scunthorpe and reading, who have done nothing for years.

Bluelady and Albran your comments about Burley are way off the mark ,Palace have come out of administration and are selling the majority of the team ,there most important player and goalscorer is injured ,he has also only been there a couple of months and still has more points and a win which is more than Roy did after spending millions this time last season .And in attracting Vaughan on loan he may have a striker that could outscore any of ours this season ?

ChambersM - I don't usually have much time for your negativity but I do agree that we should be looking to win games at Scunthorpe and Reading if we have ambitions for promotion this season, I wouldn't mind betting RK believes the same. This won't always happen though, a few weeks ago QPR scrapped a last minute draw against Derby, it's a tough league; even the top teams don't win every game! I think we'll will win tonight and if we do maybe you could find something positive to say in the morning.
