Keane: Not Good Enough to Win But Deserved a Draw Tuesday, 28th Sep 2010 22:57
Boss Roy Keane felt his side didn’t do enough to win but probably deserved a draw from the 1-0 defeat at Reading. The Town manager had no complaints regarding Luke Hyam’s sending off for a second bookable offence.
Keane said: “I’m not sure we deserved to win and I’ve been in enough games where it’s nip and tuck with five or 10 minutes to go and the home side usually seem to nick it, and that’s what happened tonight.
“The first goal was vital tonight. Jason had a great chance in the first half. I thought we didn’t play too badly, but if you don’t score goals you put yourself under pressure.
“Again, no goals tonight. We only got the one on Saturday and we’ve had chances, some good chances, the same on Saturday. So, from these two away games, instead of being disappointed with four points, we end up with one.
“We should have won on Saturday and we probably should have got a point tonight. The goal came from a set piece when we should have done better, we were a bit slow getting out. Disappointing. We need to do better.”
Keane had no complaints regarding Luke Hyam’s red card: “I think it was coming and I should have taken him off at half-time.”
Reading manager Brian McDermott was pleased with the way his team kept pushing to the end: “It’s a real testament to the desire and the will of the players that they keep going. We had a good shape to us tonight.
“It was a decent game between two good sides and we’re fortunate to come out on top with the win.
“If you keep going and you’re trying to win it at 0-0 anything can happen. That’s really important to me. There’s a big difference between one point and three points. If you play like that sometimes you might lose a game, but I’ll accept that.”

This goes out to CHAMBERSM Mate do us all a favour and do one will ya, Your so boring with what you write, no one cares about your opinion. I didn't see may of your comments when we were winning mate apart from the 1 or 2 saying "we should have won by more" or Sh*t like that. Some people are never happy and given last season i think 99 out of 100 True Ipswich fans given the start we had and against the teams would have taken our position all week long. Bourgh away 3-1 win. Burnley Home 1-1 draw Cardiff home 2-0 win Crystal palace away 2-1 win QPR home ok 3-0 lose but then how many have they lost this year? Portsmouth away 0-0 draw and so on..... These teams will no doubt be there or there abouts come may and also Burnley and Portsmouth came down last year and are still very handy. alot of teams round us haven't really played each other yet and i think we have had one if not the hardest start to the season so ......... P**S off mate and stop with the negativity COYB

doesnt take much to get the boo boys out does it?? well lets be honest shall we in seventh (where were we last season) 2 points of second and this league is open wide (we beat MIllwall at their place, yet they took a point of the unbeatable QPR at Loftus!). Personally glad to see Norris out for a game, think he has been holding back since getting the fourth yellow card, maybe in a bid not to get a fifth. hopefully he will come back with the grit and passion he started with! Think Prisken needs a full run out or at least a half. After all he as put his chances away this season...... Wickham, hmm is the fame getting to him? Didnt see the game last night but from radio coverage he wasnt at the top of his game. Leading me to my favourite player!! Jamie Peters, what a star he is, if we had 4 or 5 of him we'd stroll the league! Can score like a striker, battle it out in the middle and defend top players out of a game! so to sum up, its not all bad, a few learning points and sitting where we are now is actually for me better than being in the top two, the top two have a habit of dropping as the season progresses.....

comeonthegoodtimes You make a very good point at the end of you post about a hard start to the season. I seem to remember many coming on here once the fixtures were released saying we would stuggle and be bottom half at xmas. We are not struggling, and are already feared by every other club in this division. We are yet to hit top form and I DO believe this season we will get promotion, and automatic at that! Shoot me down if you like, tell me I know nothing about football, my head is in the clouds etc etc, I don't care, trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Just remember this post come May time.

...The Hyam sending off was the most obvious thing that was going to happen last night...Keano is right he should have taken him off at half time.!!!!!...next time just do it!!!.....thought Ipswich fans were apprehensive.....nothing like the atmosphere that was evident at Exeter and Crystal Palace......bottom line Ipswich have always struggled to score goals.....the club needs to get this sorted out once and for all........Still the positive we are so much better than we were last year....Jamie Peters awsome against Kebe....did a total job, snuffed out goal threat watched him all night, off for an early bath Job Done....Its not all doom and gloom but we must start scoring!!!

cornishblu......i.....agree....with ....you...but...whats...all....the...about.....? a space is fine mate, we don't need the ......lol I have a friend who thinks Peters is the best thing since sliced bread and i must admit i'm starting to see why, hasn't let us down this year and was quite happy to byde his time till he got his chance which to me makes me feel that he is in it for the club rather than just to pick his wage packet up, which reminds me, Pay day tomorrow......woooooohoooooo

we are starting to slide should have another 6 points if we want to go up still not scoring enough better than last years disaster start of course will we go up this year ? not on these early games signs other teams like QPR gave their manager the boot get a new one and look where they are .we could have been up there if we had the courage last year to get rid of keane and hire rangers manager who is obviously a far superior manager than keane i was hoping after first 3 we had what it takes but...

Looks like the bubble has burst doesn't it? We have been lucky so far but we are heading down to our more realistic mid-table place.

Suffolksam - bumpkin, bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbboooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg you know there are places and people you can talk to if your really that upset with life and feel the need to bring everybody else down around you. name me a manager with the start we had who could have done better? If you say Neil Warnock - then you really dont have a clue about football, needless to say for 1 he had money to spend on pretty much anyone he wanted, 2 look at who they've played. wow and finally No one gave ITFC a chance of 5 points judging by the fixture list at the start of the season so to have 15 is a great achievment. The bubble has burst has it????? on what grounds do you figure that out You 'Numpty' we've lost 2 games, one away from home against a team in form and one at home against probably the team going to set the league alite this year. Why don't you both step away from the computer and get back in that padded cell you call home oh and keep doing what the kind nurses have been teaching you to do.. Breath in, Breath out, Breath in, Breath out.......don't want any nasty accidents do we.......oh sorry Breath in, Breath out, Breath in, Breath out.

This is my first post so please don't be harsh. I really think that we do not have enough firepower this year and that is a concern for me. We are not going to score a hatful of goals so our best chance (until January) is to keep it tight defensively and try and score the odd goal on the break. Keane MUST get another striker in now (on loan) or permanently in the January transfer window. I reckon we will be play off contenders if we can do this.

Comeonthegoodtimes - I assume you meant: Breath in, breath out, breath in, breathe out, now stop...... and the world wouls be down one budgie and one UEA art student with a fear of clowns and no friends in the real world! I actually quite like their comments, because they are so ridiculous that they bring the rest of the fan base together in mocking them - one group united behind the club, all good.

I agree with keane i think the most we would have got out yesturdays match was a draw, because it didn't sound like we were goin to get a win, but town did play well, we had a gd few chances, in the match, but we just didn't put them in the bk of the net, i hope we see a win on saturday against leeds scum, come on town.
suffolksam added 13:54 - Sep 29
i used to be deluded and believe that keane was the answer like you fools but then i saw the light and realised that town playing sh-t football and not progressing beyond a mediocre mid table team just wasnt enough..no we needed change last year and it is looking more and more like we still it need it this year. some of you easily led fools will get better in time but for the rest we will just have to put up with your idol worshipping nonsense untill he goes

suffolksam a majority of people on here dont idol worship anyone, we just live much more optimistic and happy lives than you clearly do.

I thought we did enough last night to deserve at least a point and Jason Scotland was very unlucky to hit the outside of the post when his strong and physical approach play ,to create the chance, deserved better. Their goal was very fortunate but I'd have taken it at the other end. There seems to be a really good spirit amongst the lads and I for one am optimistic of a decent season. I have to say I'm ever more bemused by the rules these days though - the Reading injury on the edge of our box just before they scored would normally have resulted in them palying the next 30 secs or so with 9 men. Funny how after treatment you're allowed to bring a sub on (who scores!) immediately and be back to the nearly full complement of 10!! Stupid rule anyway but made even more ludicrous by the way it's enforced. COYB!

roytheboy - that is the craziest post I have ever read on here !!! I am new as a poster but have been reading this site for a long while. So what you are saying is that if we do not support the manager or have anything "negative" to say about the team, they are not a true supporter??? Not all supporters blindly follow like you do. They have an opinion of their own and the only way you will get a 100% positive posting on here then it must mean we have won the Champions League, The Premier League as well as the FA and League Cup's. I enjoy the positive posts more than the negatives but every argument/discussion has two sides and to say that the negative posters are traitors??? You are no better than them. If you enjoy blind obiedience so much, why not move to North Korea??
roytheboy added 16:01 - Sep 29
Whoppit I am saying nothing of the sort, I believe that all opinions are healthy, positive or negative, with respect you should read my post as a reaction to certain regular notorious negative posters, some of whom I believe are probably Norwich Supporters, I could criticise many of our players and regularly do, however I honestly believe that we have a good man in Roy Keane and just as some posters regularly and routinely slate him at every opportunity, I stand up for what I believe, which I'm sure you will also appreciate is my entitlement, I do not blindly follow Roy Keane as you suggest and if you really have been reading this site for a long time then you will have read many crazy comments, however a lot of them will have been very insulting and personal, a little like your own in fact, that is not generally my style, I am a very true supporter myself but I do not enjoy blind obedience as you rudely suggest, if you knew me you would realise that and incidentally I am quite happy living in England thank you.

roytheboy I am not judging your past posts just the outrageous one that I commented on. That post of yours has vanished so obviously it was detremental to other fans other than me. Point proven.

Whoppit I did not refer to my previous posting so much as those of others who have never ever had anything good to say about not only Roy Keane but Jim Magilton and Joe Royle before him, it would not matter what Manager we had to some people, if they don't produce instantaneous success then they are all useless idiots according to some posters, you will surely have read many of those kind of comments, I just feel, and it is apparent that others on here do also, that constant negativity is not good for the moral of the supporters, the team and Management, who I suspect read these postings as well, I repeat that everyone can and indeed should give their opinions on this site, good or bad, you have said that you prefer to read the positive ones therefore we do have some common ground between us, perhaps my posting did come over as a little strong, it was not intended to be offensive however, but just to really emphasise that we are much more likely to achieve success if we all pull together, we are showing much more positive signs on the field overall this season and it is clear on here that many Supporters are beginning to feel optomistic and just a little excited about how we may do this season, it just feels sad to me when some posters appear hell bent on putting the Manager down at every opportunity, maybe they are the ones who blindly follow one another.
