O'Dea a Doubt for Hull Trip
O'Dea a Doubt for Hull Trip
Thursday, 18th Nov 2010 14:46

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that defender Darren O’Dea has returned from international duty with Ireland with a tight hamstring. The Blues boss says the on-loan Celtic man will be assessed tomorrow before a decision is made on whether he faces Hull on Saturday.

O’Dea, who played for 67 minutes against Norway last night, could join a number of other players on the sidelines when Town travel to the KC Stadium.

Keane outlined the situation regarding his other injured players: “Gareth McAuley will be out for another two or three weeks. Luke Hyam tore his hamstring last week and he’ll be out for four to five. Mark Kennedy damaged his hamstring and will be out three weeks and David Norris is very much doubtful for the weekend.”

Hungarian pair Tamás Priskin and Márton Fülöp are not yet back from playing in their national side’s victory over Lithuania but are not thought to have picked up knocks.

Luke Hyam - out for four to five weeks. Why when we were losing 3-0 last week with hope of winning was Luke forced play the final 30 minutes. May as well gone 4-4-1 perhaps resulting in just a two to three week layoff. More great management!

Its an absolute JOKE! How on earth did the club let him go and play there? i mean he hasnt kicked a ball for us for 2 months but he can just go wandering back into international duty. If he couldnt play for us at the weekend because he wasnt fit enough has he now suddenly became fit enough to start in a few days? Is an Outrage!

All Keane's fault

At least when Hull, Norwich and WBA beat us, Keane can blame it on injuries !!!

Errr isn't this a new injury, so kind of makes above comments a bit pointless really. He only just missed out on playing for us on the weekend, play four days later as was ok, then got another injury.

Bad luck, but thats the way it goes.... we have adequate cover so no need to panic!!

You couldnt make this up.
We are going into the three most important games of our season so far (the next one, the derby and the 1/4 final) with no bodies.
Who will be available?????

You wouldn't be able to tell from that picture that he is actually made out of glass.

He was pretty poor in the parts I saw in the international the other night, so not a huge loss.

I think this guy's come down to suffolk for his holidays..doesn't seem to be doing much in the line of work.

Rather than worrying about whether O'Dea (a centre-back struggling for fitness), can face Hull at left-back, perhaps we should play Shane O'Connor (our number 3, a real left-back)?

Has anyone seen O'Connor recently, perhaps he has done a runner or passed away?

Interesting to see if he gets in the squad at Hull, considering the number of absentees. If he doesn't make the squad, questions need to be asked why not.

I totally fail to see how anyone at the club is at fault. Is it not the International Teams decision to call the player up and in the event of an injury they get to decide whether they want the player assessed by one of their medics? So can someone please explain to me what the club have done wrong here?

However, this guy has mainly been injured during his stay with us. Although a decent player, it would seem his days at PR are number and I suspect he'll be back with Celtic in January.

You never know, with all these centre backs getting injured, we may not have enough centre backs to play full back, in which case we may just be forced to play full backs at full back

muhrensleftfoot....don't be so stupid, that will wreck Keanes 'masterplan to get us 'up' this season, after all Man U played with 4 full backs the other week. It's obviously a Man U thing, can't wait till we have 4 strikers to play across the midfield, maybe a groundsman and a tea lady up front. I'm only an ordinary fan so I don't understand complicated things like tactics, so I'll stick to farming and let Keane run the team!
COYB!!!

> Has anyone seen O'Connor recently, perhaps he has done a runner or passed away?

He had an injury earlier in the season but he has been fit for a number of weeks and is playing in the reserves. I thought he did very well last year and in pre-season, and he was given a new contract and the number 3 shirt. What has happened?

Also - where is Jamie Peters? He was being praised no end earlier in the season, but has now dropped out of the scene.

I accept that O'Connor and Peters are not the most defensively-strong full-backs at the club (and Peters is more of a winger) but in the absense of any other full-backs they seem to be our best options, especially when playing at home.

Needless yet strangely inevitable. Given the situation, I cannot understand why the FAI insisted on playing him. Very poor form by them. A little more flexibility would go a long way in the club v country row...

May as well go back to Celtic if he is going to be off for any length of time. Shame as he was just starting to fit in, but has been injured too much to justify extending the loan...

Regarding our other injuries, Hyam should have been withdrawn as soon as soon as he was injured, regardless. Very disappointed with Kennedy. Brought in for experience, (a fee plus high wages) and has delivered nothing. Should know his limits and how to avoid these niggles.

McAuley and Norris are huge losses.

Hopefully the rest of the squad will rally enough to produce an improved performance on Saturday...
