Reserves Face Spurs
Reserves Face Spurs
Wednesday, 24th Nov 2010 09:03

Some of Roy Keane’s squad will have the chance to press their claims for a place in Sunday’s derby team when the reserves travel to Spurs for a behind-close-doors friendly later today. Jaime Peters and Connor Wickham are expected to be amongst those out to make a case for their inclusion in the starting line-up at Carrow Road.

Colin Healy and Alan Quinn are also likely to be involved in today's game as they return from injuries. Healy has been out with hamstring and groin problems, while Quinn, who recently spent time back in Ireland after a family bereavement, has been sidelined since pre-season, also with a groin injury.

The Blues are currently without one or two regular first team squad members and Keane says he is looking forward to having the Irish midfield duo available again: “It’ll be nice to have two good senior players back in the squad.”

Gareth McAuley (achilles), Mark Kennedy (hamstring) and Luke Hyam (hamstring) all missed Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Hull, while young defender Tom Eastman suffered a groin injury late in that game.

" A chanced to press their claim for a place in the team" ...???

I suspect it will be whoever remains fit out of the unjury ridden squad, that will play.

And since RK will no doubt be playing Scotland upfront on his own, isolated, with the MF packed and the defence full of youngsters playing out of position, I wont be expecting any goals from us sunday- again!

maysixth you stole my question!!!! he Dissblue maybe they could kidnapp him??? Ah so Healy and Quinn to face Norwich???!!!!!! Actually i always liked Quinn, a relilable player who played with his heart on his sleeve.

Now is RK going to use Civelli in the derby as a player no one has seen for a while. At least the Norwich scouts wont have seen him play so we may actually play positive with him...

But lets not bet on that....

Hope Wickham has a poor game against Spurs....they'll be less likely to make an offer ;-)

I would think that with the current atmostphere and uncertainty at PR Wickham will play his best at Spurs. As for Civelli, it would be madness to start/play him in the derby. His confidence looks shot.

For a team with supposedly one of the best fitness coaches in the world we suffer alot of injuries, especially groin injuries!

Not sure about Wickham starting against Norwich. Priskin has done nothing to get dropped and I think we should play a 451 with Townsend and Edwards on the wings, so that only leaves room for one striker.

As for Peters, yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!

Glad to see Quinny out there again, hopefully he'll impress. His tenacious tackling is lacking this season.

Not to mention, his brother scored against us, so I'd like to see him get his own back when Sheff Utd come to our place!

Can't believe Keane is risking Peters just before the big game (he might get injured- or might just be knackered before the game.its not as if we crying out with talent in the rb position. If Peters gets injured,it will be Fulop at rb with the whole world watching "Come on Fulop,it will be good for you t play in different positions!"
want keane out.don't care about the results against norwich or wba as long as it removes this guy from our club. the guy is delusional and should not be in charge of a club. his face when hull scored said it all, like a goldfish in a bowl

Healy and Quinn remind me just how many central midfielders we have at the club! Hourihane is another one, I haven't heard much about him lately.

I wonder whether Shane O'Connor will play? He looked go good and must feel utterly disappointed not to get his chance in the first team this year.

Ipswich need to get a settled 11, but we will have to make changes going into the Norwich match after the poor team selections against Hull. Surely Peters will start on Sunday now Eastman is out, unless Roy is thinking of playing Brown there (another out of position centre-back).

Where is O'Connor, not even mentioned in despatches!!! What has he done wrong?

Thats mighty clever playing Peters and Wickham five days before a derby match!
Personaly i would start with Peters on Sunday and have Wickham and Priskin up front right from the start. get in their faces right from the off........mind you saying that clowno keano with probably play 4-5-1 and start with Scotland :-(
Who knows what goes on inside his brain?

I think Keane plays one up front on Sunday at his peril. He knows his job is on the line so anything negative from here on in will only give Evans fuel for the fire...you'd hope!

4-5-1
we need to control the midfield and get the ball back if our long ball strategy is not working.
murphy,peters,o'dea,delaney,smith (if fit), leadbitter,norris (if fit),edwards,colback,livermore,scotland
strategy- ultra-defensive with longball tactics
this team should get the 0-0 or even 1-0 that we need.
healy might replace scotland if we are not winning the midfield (do we really need 1 up front?)

4 days is easily enough time for the lads to recover from the game on tuesday.keane is making sure the squad is fully fit

ive got a really bad feeling about sunday i can see us getting thrashed inless keane does something about it .
our defence is shocking with 4 centre backs , i agree with everyone else who says peters on the right and o connor on left ( but where is he ?).
i liked keane but we loose sunday and against westbrom he has to GOOO!!!
if i see 1 up front sunday im going to turn tv off before they even start its just so defencive id rather see us win 4-3 then win 1-0

peters delainey smith odea
townsend colback norris edwards
and any 2 strikers up front but probs priskin and wickham ( at his best )

I've got a feeling we'll sneak a win on sunday and Keane'll keep his job for a couple more weeks...unfortunately.

Did somebody say risking Peters? Come on now, he's no full back, so should he get injured - let's not get too upset. I like the lad but after his performance at Forest he should never play full back again. He works hard, is a trier but a world beater he ain't.

Games such as this are needed & necessary. Hopefully some good performances will help pick the side for Norwich. Players should be chomping at the bit to play on Sunday. A game against Spurs ressies should be a good test, why is this not a good idea?

Healy & Quinn - decent back-up (if fit). Today will prove or otherwise. Injured players, or should I say, those making comebacks from injury need games - full stop.

As long as Priskin, Scotland & Wickham remain fit - let's work from there. We know we are short at the moment, but what can we do. A decent performance and win today & Sunday - and we're back on track.

Let's hope Civelli can make a return before Xmas.

Sounds like a showcase opportunity for Wickham to impress Rednapp - behind closed doors..............

I've watched Norwich (sorry) a couple of times on the box and they impress with their fluid play and determination never to give up. Selection for Sunday has to be right - an attacking formation, with players playing in their best positions. Heh, someone wake me up.............

Heard Macauley to be out for best part of nearly 2 months with his ankle injury. Not good.
