Liverpool and Spurs Again Linked With Wickham Moves
Liverpool and Spurs Again Linked With Wickham Moves
Sunday, 5th Dec 2010 23:56

Liverpool and Spurs have both again been linked with moves for Town striker Connor Wickham. The pair have long been understood to be amongst the front-runners in the chase for the 17-year-old’s signature, along with Chelsea and Arsenal.

According to a tabloid report, the Reds are ready to match Town’s £10 million asking price in January as part of a plan to bring in young British talent.

It’s by no means the first time Liverpool have been mentioned in connection with Wickham with manager Roy Hodgson having been an admirer since his time at Fulham.

Spurs, who made offers of up to £8 million in the summer, have been linked with a £12 million move in January, although that weekend website claim looks like little more than speculation based on previous stories.

Wickham, a Liverpool fan as a youngster, signed a two-year deal with the Blues in April shortly after he turned 17.

Elsewhere, one of Sunday’s tabloids claims Town, Bolton, Everton and Leicester are amongst the clubs interested in winger or striker Kelvin Etuhu, who is said to be on his way out of Manchester City.

The Nigerian spent time on loan at Cardiff last season having previously had similar spells at Rochdale and Leicester.

Karlos also do you not think if he played prisken as the deep striker, creating chances and Scotland as the fox in the box we may score more? Prisken is the one with speed who can take people on, yet he is kept up front and Scotland who isnt exactly Eusane Bolt is left deep to run at goal?

Would sell Wickham he was good last season. But this season seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder and for a young kid is always injured.

£10M is too good to refuse. Has been off-colour this season. Current worth around £1M.

priskenamazing spot on with team choice, rumour did have it that Connor will be fit.... will be interesting to see if he does get on the bench. Hopefully Civelli will be on the bench, he could have come on saturday and replaced a natural left winger with a natural left winger and at least Swansea are not too physical... ah not no he was only on the bench for the very physical Norwich game!!!!!

Very good point

Scotland is a proven goal scorer at this level and he did start off well in terms of goals for us and Priskin proved with Watford he can score goals too.

It worth a try as we are creating chances just need someone to put the ball in the net.
If you look at town in the 80's if Mariner was not scoring Brazil was or it was Gates or Wark. We never had worry about where the goals would come from as the whole team could score

As highly rated as Wickham is, at some point we may have to sell him. If Liverpool or Spurs are willing to pay £10m then it is a good deal, unless most of it is linked to appearances and internationals. ME should thrash out a deal with them for £10m up front payment with a first refusal loan option. We'll get £10m for him, get him back on loan for next 2 seasons and when he still is not good enough for Liverpool/Spurs we can buy him back on the cheap! Sorted!

No way sell Wickham to Totenem and say give us Townsend and dos santos then pay 4 mill. Splash thats out on a proper bustling striker like Miller and that would prob still leave 2.5 mill spare which should be spent on the stadium or something. Or use it so Ipswich can afford cheaper ticket sale prices so we might acually get over 20,000 one day ;)

i think connor wickham is a great player and has a great future ahead of him but he is not scoring goals for us at the moment so why are liverpool and spurs putting these bids in for him he will barely get played there:S

itfc1996 added 19:06 - Dec 6
That would be a good deal if town got ten million for wickham as he hasnt looked interested this season, maybe there might be a part exchange for andros townsend? Listening to Kevin Beattie on the radio after the game saturday he said that he believes that andros is our only match winner? If we got ten million for wickham then surely we'd have to spend some cash on experienced defenders to strengthen up the backline and a striker that would bang in the goals! COYB!

Tractorboy96 maybe if liverpool/tottenham buy them for 10 mil maybe they would loan him out to us for a seasons long loan? Thats if we wanted him! :D

£10 million seems a vastly inflated figure based on what we have seen so far this season. Wickham has potential, but then again so have a number of other young players who never progressed to the highest levels. I'd be surprized if we got any where near that amount for him and I also suspect the club would accept a much lower figure.

£10 million?? dreamland..........

Proven only against boys his own age where his physical maturity makes him stand out. If he's truly prem class he'd have stood out like a sore thumb at this level - but he hasn't.

In his slight defence he may well have benefitted from receiving the backing (and subsequently selection) from a decent manager.

There seems to be a lot of 'IFS' in the above posts!!!!

On the subject of Peters playing at RB, it is possible that the contract for taking the WBA Dutchman on loan is that he has to be selected to play if he is fit!
