Town Among Clubs Eyeing Wilson
Saturday, 10th Jan 2026 19:15

TWTD understands the Blues are among the clubs eyeing West Ham United striker Callum Wilson.

The 33-year-old former England international is in talks with the Hammers regarding an early exit from his contract, allowing him to move on as a free agent.

Town are on the lookout for another striker during this transfer window and were in discussions with Sheffield United’s Patrick Bamford, whose short-term deal with the Blades is up next week.

As reported yesterday, talks with Bamford have now ended with the ex-Leeds United man and his family preferring to remain in the north. We understand the 34-year-old is set to sign a very lucrative new deal at Bramall Lane.

Wilson is on the list of frontmen the Blues have now turned their attention to but with plenty of other sides also monitoring his situation.

Championship leaders Coventry City, the 5ft 11in tall striker’s hometown club where he started his career, and Leicester have also been credited with an interest, along with top-flight Leeds, Scottish Premiership Celtic and La Liga Sevilla, while a number of other Championship clubs are also keeping tabs.

Having started his career with the Sky Blues, during which time he spent time on loan at Kettering and Tamworth, Wilson moved on to Bournemouth in 2014 and then in 2020 Newcastle United, where he spent five years until his move to West Ham on a one-year deal in the summer in Graham Potter’s time in charge.

However, Potter’s replacement, Nuno Espirito Santo, is understood not to be a fan and Wilson is expected to depart East London within the next few days.

Haven’t got a clue if he would be interested in a contract here until the end of the season. You would think he would sign for a club that could give him game time as at 33 years old he can’t afford to being a but part player. He might just go somewhere for one last big payday, he might want to end his career where it started, at Coventry city, or he may look at what Jamie vardy is doing in Italy and fancy ending his career abroad. Personally I think there are better options.

Tricky one this. Certainly has the ability to score regularly in the Championship, but not good enough for struggling WHU in the PL. Also rather highly prone to injury. Short term maybe? On balance I'd say no, but it wouldn't be the worst second half of a season short term signing, assuming injury doesn't become an issue again.

Not one for the future or the present either.

He is at his best condition in over 5 years, you get Clarke, Philo, Burns, Wallee putting balls in the mixer with a solid midfield behind him, he will score goals. His West Ham contract was £5k per week, £15k per start, £10K per bench start, £30K goals. It's a no brainer to offer him £30K per week, Goal & assist bonus, plus 1 year add on and premiership bonus. After over 20 goes on goal today, ITFC need him

Apnorman23:where do you get those figures from, did you draw up his contract or are you his agent ?

Wilson (4 goals) has scored twice as many in the Premier League this season than Akpom (2 goals) and Azon (2 goals) have in the Championship. Wilson scored one at Forest, two at Bournemouth and one home to Burnley.

Apnorman23. He's on £46k a,week at west ham. So that will be an issue in getting him here.. Also what u say about philogene etc getting the ball in for him would be right. But the main reason the strikers we already have dont score many goals, is those players rarely do get the ball into them. So unless thst was to change, no strikerxwull get thst many for us

Wilson knows how to score goals. Akpom and Azon have sadly been underwhelming at best. We need a striker.

Don’t see why a £50k per week salary is an issue. It’s only 6 months.

apnorman, it was actually over 30 attempts on goal, 31 ( 8 on target ). So I'll certainly agree with you on one thing, we need someone! Whether it's CW or not, will be up to those behind closed doors. Whoever it turns out to be will get my support, whatever I think of it personally.

No brainer. Would blow the rest of the championship away on a short term signing basis and be enough to get us over the line in this critical season in which the league is particularly weak. We HAVE to pull out all the stops to go up this year.

If he can stay fit, I think he would certainly score goals but I’m guessing he would be a sub for Hirst rather than a starter in most games when Hirst is fit.

I fear we will once again chase this player the whole window to no avail, and yet again fail to secure an effective striker. Why are we so slow in securing players. Havent Coventry already signed a Palace winger and another player?

I'd pay extra to get Callum on board!
A classic striker I have always admired.
He's probably past his best but could be unstoppable in the Championship.

I will believe this type of thing when I see him with Ashton and Jacob is interviewing him!

As a player I have two main criteria in mind IF we sign a striker in this window, he has to have to be demonstrably better than the thee 9s we already have on our books, and he has to have PL squad potential if we go up. It's pointless adding squad fodder so if we get Wilson, for me we must send Ivan back or ensure we don't hit the obligation criteria for Akpom staying.

I would like to think we won't just add a short term number in panic, we have to have a long term view on any signing

we get plenty of chances to score, we just need a striker to hit the back of the net, . Hirst has not been good enough. Even a striker on loan to get us over the line imo .
