Jewell: I'd Not Even Heard of Luca
Jewell: I'd Not Even Heard of Luca
Friday, 11th Feb 2011 14:01

Town boss Paul Jewell admits that he'd never heard of Argentinian midfielder Luciano Civelli until he took over at Portman Road last month. The 24-year-old returned to action after 23 months out on Saturday when he came on as a late sub in the Blues' 3-0 victory over Sheffield United.

Jewell said: “I’d never seen him play until I came here. To be brutally honest I’d never heard of him because he’d been out for two years, although he was telling me he’d been fit for the last four or five months, he was just out of the picture.

“It’s a work in progress with him because he’s gaining confidence in his fitness and getting games under his belt is something he hasn’t done for two years.

“He’s got a good attitude, Luca, and like every other player here, they’re doing their best and working hard and I’m really enjoying working with them.

"As long as the effort remains the same, I’ll always be able to put up with people’s mistakes.”

Civelli looks likely to be amongst the subs at Barnsley on Saturday.

Luca still looked a yard off the pace on Wednesday night. He made some nice little flicks but never really ran with the ball and took on the Oxford defence. Oh and his shooting was woeful - blazed 3 great chances over the bar. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt he will be up to full match fitness/confidence until early April. He will then be able to get a full pre-season and be back to his barn storming best for next season

"As long as the effort remains the same, I'll always be able to put up with people's mistakes.” I think this is the crucial point of difference between Jewell and Keane. PJ having a little dig at the Glary One, perhaps?

Pab was a Spanish U21 international is all I can remember.
That and the fact that he was definitely fouled in the penalty box Playing Leeds Utd doing a quick turn and the ill positioned Ref (Mr Magoo) didn't give it. And to finish the rant we were 1-0 up and Finidi (I get paid more than the rest of the team put together) George greedily fluffed a chance that he should have squared for a definite 2-0....we lost 2-1 and the rot truly set in...Grrrr

Luca looked decent against Sheff Utd, I wonder if he had a falling out with Keane?
