Town Target Villa Defender Beye
Town Target Villa Defender Beye
Tuesday, 15th Feb 2011 11:57

Town are understood to be interested in taking Aston Villa right-back Habib Beye on loan. The 33-year-old is out of favour at Villa Park having made only 14 starts and two sub appearances since he joined them from Newcastle in the summer of 2009.

The French-born Senegal international last featured for Villa in the Carling Cup in October and has recently been training with the reserves.

Beye’s first English club was Newcastle United, who paid Marseille £2 million for the six-foot tall right-back or centre-half in August 2007. Prior to that he was with Paris St Germain and Strasbourg.

Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he was hoping to bring in “one or two” loan players before the end of the week with a right-back a not unlikely target with Carlos Edwards currently playing in what is an unfamiliar role.

Something we've needed for a long time. No offence to Carlos Edwards, I think he has tried hard as did Jaime Peters, but it really isn't their position. Personally, I feel that Peters is wasted at the back !

As much as he'll be better than Edwards in that position, though he may not be match fit, I'm concerned that we are still targeting elder statesmen instead of looking at the young talent down the leagues, there's always a gem out there, Jewell.

Keano's worst mistake was losing David Wright.

This move would certainly make ammends.

Good signing will allow Edwards forward and Wickham to play up front

Great Signing if it goes through. Experienced and Accomplished right back who can also cover centre half. Get him in till then end of the season then look for the next permanent right back in the summer.

Is he a Gary Neville or Dani Alves style RB? I mean, will we see him go over the half way line?

Financial considerations apart, I think it makes great sence to target expereinced pros in the loan period. As long as the desire to play is there, there is no messing around with untried premiership youngsters that haven't had much first team experience. You get a player that comes in and knows how to the get the job done. When it comes to permanent signings, cheaper lower league 'gems' and solid championship players in their early to mid-twenties must be the way ahead.

Would be a great, safe signing.

People shouldn't forget this season is about getting safe and consolidating and having an experienced back 4 is a great start.

Jewell has got all Summer to find the gems from the lower leagues and his teams naturally always play with width and pace so he won't be signing any slow full backs in the long term. It's why he likes Edwards there so much.

Would be a very good signing, and my memory of him from the Premiership days is that he DOES like to get forward.

IP3, we aren't going to unearth a gem in the loan market so we might as well get experience, best way to get these types of players.

We need a temporary solution to a constant problem. This guy with his experience fits the bill perfectly for the rest of the season. Someone who knows the role, has positional sense and knows when to play and when to hoof it clear is what we're crying out for.

If a rumour comes about we are looking at someone from lower league [ie Torquay] people are not happy, we talk about someone from Prem and we get moans about them being too old, if we stay as we are ,...moans about that ! who,d be a manager ?.Get the bloke in ,we need a right back,.

No disrespect to Edwards or Peters, but neither are right-backs. Edwards has done well recently, but a right-back is a must. Surprised the club didn;t sign one in the transfer window.

Just another rumor, why have you lot got so many opinions on who the club should buy/sell or offer contracts to. It would'nt be so bad if you were proper supporters and go to the home and away games like me. How many of on here were at barnsley at the weekend? and going tonight I'll be there.

All you do is moan moan moan sick of it. Rant over!
