Town Off To Holland in Pre-Season

Chief executive Simon Clegg has revealed that the Blues’ pre-season tour will be in Holland this summer. Two games have been pencilled in for July.

Clegg told the club site: "We're very close to finalising details for two games in Holland in July.

"The opposition and dates have been confirmed and we should be able to make an announcement in the next week or so."

Last year Town lost 1-0 to PSV in their only overseas game with two other Dutch fixtures falling through, one against the Blues’ 1981 UEFA Cup final opponents AZ Alkmaar, who, given that this year is the 30th anniversary of that encounter, may well in the frame for this summer's trip.

This is Marcus Evans idea to please his employees who are based in offices in Amsterdam. I am not complaining though because I live over here! More to the point, it gives Town the chance to take a look at some quality players from less fashinable clubs such as Heracles and RKC. Make no mistake, technically they are far superior to run-of the-mill championship players and at affordable prcies too!

Sounds good. Not too keen on the fizzy beer, however. But the new boats from Harwich are very comfortable! Agree with pessimistic that we might actually pick up some half decent players at the same time. Holland is often seen as a first stop for young talented Swedish players before they go on to bigger things (those that do). Zlatan is the prime example, but there are several more.

I don't see why the whole team should go to the Netherlands only to look for some good and promising players?! I completely agree we should go for players from Holland - they are good and athletic and we personally have great experience with them, but this should be a task for our scouts. Other than that I don't care where the team will go for pre-season as long as they are well prepared and do well when the season begins.
