Town Linked With Dundee United Winger

Town are targeting Dundee United winger Craig Conway, according to reports in Scotland. The 25-year-old is also understood to be interesting SPL giants Rangers.

Irvine-born Conway started his career at Ayr United where he made his debut in the 2003 season before going on to make 56 starts and 17 sub appearances, scoring nine goals.

The 5ft 6in tall wideman moved on to Dundee United at the end of his contract in June 2006 and has subsequently made 125 starts and 32 appearances from the bench, scoring 15 goals, including two in last season’s 3-0 Scottish Cup final victory over Ross County.

Primarily right-sided but happy on either flank, Conway, who has won two full Scotland caps, is out of contract at the end of the season. Middlesbrough and Cardiff have previously shown interest in the midfielder.

5ft 6in? Maybe we're trying to get him in to make Lee Martin feel like a big boy and start getting stuck in?

Ipswich are the latest club to have shown an interest in Dundee United winger Craig Conway.

The 25 year old Scotland international is out of contract in the summer and has previously attracted interest from Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Rangers.

Cardiff and Rangers had bids rejected for the former Ayr United player during the January transfer window, with Ally McCoist said to be keen on rekindling a deal in the summer.

However, McCoist has not yet had his budget for next season finalised, as talks over the ownership of the club continue.

This delay could allow a club from south of the border to secure Conway on a pre-contract deal.

According to a report in The Daily Express, Paul Jewell is a fan of Conway's talents, and could move to bring the player to Portman Road.

Conway joined Dundee United from Ayr United in 2006, and has scored twice this season, against Hibernian and Aberdeen. He made his full Scotland debut under George Burley in the 2-0 defeat to Japan in 2009.

Can we stop calling Rangers 'SPL Giants', their attendance is roughly the same as Sunderlands but their team a whole lot worse, yet Sunderland would never be refered to as Giants.

Def right sort of age would be interesting to see him play.

Rangers are giants in the small pond that is the SPL!

I didn't realise the term 'giant' was linked with attendances (otherwise that would spark yet another row with the budgies) Rangers are giants compared to the other 10 teams in the SPL, even if it is an awful standard.

As for Conway, think he might be a decent winger, just don't expect much in the air.

Sounds quite a lot like Danny Hegan - hope this is a move back to those heady days, when he and Brogan ran riot down the wings.

Forget it! - once he comes south of the border he'll be out of his league whether it be Premiership or Championship :)

Wow, two goals this season. 10 goals in 175 starts. Just what we need, a dwarf, Scottish, Lee Martin.

I'd rather us be targeting someone like Jobi McAnuff in the Summer instead to be honest.

As for Rangers been giants? Forget about stadium size, quality of squad etc..........fact is they ARE one of the biggest supported Clubs around the World, hence the term giants!

I think he's very decent player, bit like Paul Mason with pace...worth a punt if the fee is right, but I'm sure once again others will be sniffing :/

I know nothing about this chap. Is he any better than the wingers we already have (Jaime Peters, Lee Martin, Reggie Lambe)? Hard to tell from the report although interest from some decent clubs is encouraging.

All for bringing in great bargain signings provided that they are better than (or at least different to) the players already under contract, not just brought in for the sake of signing someone...

If Ranges are interested, I suggest we stop worrying about him. He's obviously going to choose more money (probably) and European football, leaving me still to prefer ITFC - Scunthorpe (or whatever match it was) on the Net radio rather than Barcelona - Arsenal being shown on TV at the same time!

Hoping some south-americans will arrive in the summer. Would be nice with a brazilian or argentinian striker and an offensive midfielder to get some creativity.
