Keane Could Make Australia Move
Keane Could Make Australia Move
Wednesday, 6th Apr 2011 11:27

Former Town boss Roy Keane is in the running to become the new manager of Australian A-League side the Melbourne Victory.

Keane, 39, is understood to be in the Victorian capital at the moment, but is amongst a number of names to have been linked with the role, including Bosko Djurovski, the assistant coach of Japanese side Nagoya Grampus.

The Irishman, who still lives with his family in Woodbridge, has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Portman Road in January.

Further to this morning's story, Keane was spotted at last night's Sydney FC-Shanghai Shenhua Asian Champions League match at the Sydney Football Stadium.

When asked, Keane refused to comment on the Melbourne Victory link: "No," before adding, "I’m just here to watch the match with my son."

blue em away ... Getting them to the PL in his 1st season and kept them there the following season is not a success ? Ipswich would only love if that happened.

Sunderland were annoyed that he quit half way through a season, none would argue he did a good job there and all were glad he got them up and kept them up.

So for PJ getting to the PL and keeping them there is not a success ??

Your a t*at not a div.

A bit off topic, but I have to say some of the teams in the A league have some great fans, so much more fun than PR, I went to a few perth glory games when I was there, home and away and the atmosphere amongst the die hards was great, probably helped by the fact your allowed beer in the stands. After 1 game which the glory won 3-2 (after being 2-0 down at HT) a few the players came over the hoardings to celebrate and shake the hands of the fans who had made the trip from 1 side of Oz to the other

Whadzilla bhoy - Thanks for posting the clip. It's a long time since I laughed out loud at a video clip!

If Keane goes they will not know whats hit them, I hope they serve their half time tea in unbreakable cups. (Althouigh it looks like they drink Castlemaine XXXX rather than tea).

On another note, don't they allow fans in to watch these matches? Look at the empty seats. I would pay just to see the goal celebration at the end...fantastic!

Any chance you Keane supporters & sympathizers could go with him. After all it was your support that kept him in the job for so long & brought this great club to its knees

Blue em away ... Cost does not mean automatic success. Just look at Man City. He got the club into the PL, yes he had money but the Irish investors who took over were happy to spend the money. Any manager would have done the same but not any manager would have got them up and kept them up. Even the chairman Niall Quinn said when Keane left he transformed the club into a PL club, a change from their yo-yo status.

He failed at Ipswich. So don't try and say he did not do a good job at Sunderland because that is you not knowing what you are on about.

You're a t*t not a n*b :)

Sunderland - Success (£80million)
Ipswich - Fail (£20million? and nearly got us into League 1)
Next job ??? The other side of the world is just fine with me.

How will he make Autralia move? By pushing it?

His name will get him a job somewhere in the world, and he seemed a bit of a loner to me without too many contacts on this side of the pond which was one of his many problems. With PJ getting so much more involved in everything realise how detached he was especially where transfers were concerned.Fancy not speaking to Damien Delaney for 3 months, his remarks the other day about Keane shows why Ipswich were plunging towards Div1 and the problems he left behind.Thank goodness we can forget him,as I am sure he doesnt give a thought to ITFC.

Why the need for disrespect? He failed, move on. If he gets the job good luck to him

Given the fabled Aussie bloody-mindedness, it looks like being an in-yer-face 11 against 1 sort of relationship.

If he does get the job there's a like-minded individual on the support staff he'll probably want to keep... Kevin Muscat's currently Assistant Manager there!

Shame that some people can just be damn right nasty about someone. I have no doubt that Roy tried and gave 100% to ITFC, but it didn't work out and he was rightly sacked. Hopefully it will work out somewhere else for him and I am sure there will be many clubs that would be happy to give him a chance - whether people on here want to believe it or not.

In the meantime, he has gone and we would probably be better focusing our efforts on ITFC and supporting the current team.

I don't think that a number of well-meaning people quite understand how destructive is the Keane type of personality.
He is dug into a bunker. Him against the world. This works in a way on a single person basis where strife is the only important factor.
But finally, the world is EVERYONE else but him. He cannot truly encourage others because he is in competition with them. So encouragement, which is the 10% difference between success and failure is completely absent.

Keane's had a great first season in management, but I am not sure he was an overall success at Sunderland as I think he spent about £80M and he left after 28 months with the club in the Premier League relegation zone.

At Ipswich I think he spent about £13M and we all know what a disaster he was.

We should all move on, but I understand fans reflecting on just how bad his time was here and what damage it did to ITFC. If that £13M (and all the associated big wages deals that went with it) had have been spent well, we would at least be a top six Championship side by now with growing attendances and a real chance of promotion. If only Jewell had have been given the job last summer rather than sticking with Roy! Oh well, at least the club has made the right choice of manager now.

petermorris - when will you realise that I am entitled to my opinion just as much as you are entitled to yours? If you read my post, you will note that I agree that he was 'rightly sacked'. I see no reason why anyone should be intentially nasty about anyone else and yes I do think that Roy tried his best. Loads of negatives, but did he not lead us to the semi-finals of a national cup competion? Some people refuse to acknowledge any positives - I am sure you will agree a semi final is a positive?

Bottom line however is that he has gone. Did he 'destroy' the club - no. It still exists and no doubt will continue to do so for many years to come - whoever the manager is.

Has anyone noticed the similarities between the careers of Bryan Robson and Roy Keane?

Both great captains for Man Utd. Both went on to have great success with their first managerial position. Both failed with their second.

Robson ends up in Austrailasia plying his trade, Keane looks to follow.

Just want to add, good luck with your fight against cancer Bryan.

Strange bloke. Looking at the comments from the players and PJ about the contracts due for renewal you wonder what was going on.
