Jewell: Ball in Hull's Court Over Bullard
Jewell: Ball in Hull's Court Over Bullard
Friday, 29th Apr 2011 15:05

Boss Paul Jewell has revealed that he’s spoken to Hull City’s head of football operations Adam Pearson on a number of occasions regarding Jimmy Bullard’s future and says the ball is in the Tigers’ court. The 32-year-old — who has enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with the Blues in the second half of the season - has another two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium.

Jewell said: “I know Adam Pearson really well, I worked with him at Derby. I’ve chatted with Adam a few times and the ball’s really in their court.

“We’ve done well to get Jimmy for what we’ve had him for this season, whether we can do it again is probably down to negotiations between the two clubs.

“I know he’s really enjoyed it here, I know the players enjoy having him here and I know the fans love him.

“I worked with him at Wigan and here and he’s exactly the same - he’s just as daft now as he was then.”

The Blues boss says the addition of the one-time England call-up has been a huge benefit to the club: “I think bringing in the likes of Jimmy Bullard has really helped us, really helped the team and really helped us to get some results.

"Jimmy’s 32, but he plays like an 18-year-old. The fans love his enthusiasm. He arguably might be the Player of the Year, I don’t know.

“He’s enthusiastic, loves his football and we want people like that. You don’t have to be 19 or 20 to be hungry. You get some players who are in their mid or late 20s who’ve got hunger and desire, and that’s what we’re after - a mixture of both.”

Bullard is currently heading the vote for the Player of the Year, which Jewell says illustrates how supporters have taken to him since he joined the club in January: “I think that would probably tell you what the fans think of him. He’s been terrific for us and we’d like to have him here next season.

“Whether we can do that is a financial matter, everyone knows he’s on a huge contract at Hull. If we could do something with Jimmy, we’d love to.”

You can vote for your Player of the Year either online or at Saturday’s game against Preston. The winner will be named at the Players’ Awards Evening on Saturday at Greshams Sports and Social Club, all details " target="_blank">http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=18324>here

He's saved our season. Without him, we might have gone down. We're going to miss him terribly next year. And if we lose Macauley and Norris as well, those are three huge holes to fill.

Didn't I hear somewhere, if he plays 1 more game for Hull it triggers a clause of £1M that they have to pay to Fulham? If this is true, we should get him on a free, as Hull will want to get rid, and they may pay some of his wages as well.

Hull owe Bullard the best part of £5M, but it is there problem. We should only offer a realistic price for a player who turns 33 in October and let Hull worry about the rest. They will have to pay off his contract and agree a settlement with him if they want to sell him, I don't think any club will break the bank for him, even Premier League teams. £45K-a-week is crazy, especially as Hull would pay him that until the age of nearly 35 under his current contract!

Stating this "financial matter" thing makes me think the obvious - nevermind how much he enjoyed his time at PR, Bullard will stick to his huge salary, which he will never be able to get in the future. And he will be right for his sake. I hope we can get him on a long season loan as the only possible option but we will see...

I wish people would get real, Bullard has without doubt livened up our season but to vote him Player of the Year would be hipocritical as it's called Player of the Year not PLAYER OF THE LAST THREE MONTHS give your vote to someone who has been there all year!

Village blue- such as who ?? The rest have been utter crap. If JB wins it maybe they will get a kick up the arse and realise how woeful there efforts have been. JB has got my vote, only bright spot in an otherwise very bad season !!

Well village why does it make a difference? McAuley has been here all year but hasn't exactly performed well ALL year has he? Bullard has performed consistantly for the whole time he's been here. Player of the year doesn't mean you have to have been here all season, Bullard has arguably been the favourite player of a big percentage of fans, therefore deserves the award.

Bullard and on occasions some of the youngsters have been the only positives in the last few months. He showed up other Town players with his skill and industry. One of the fittest and committed players to be at the club for some time.

Whatever happens I wish him well - a pleasure to watch and difficult to replace.

Hull fan "in peace"- don't you have a site of your own to post on? Its funny that Bullard has stated on numerous occassions how much he has enjoyed his time at Town, would he say the same about his time at Hull? God no.

Also, it was a Hull fan who told me about the supposed 1M clause, but if she was lying/wrong then hey ho. But Bullard will be leaving Hull in the summer, and I'm almost positive it will be for town.

tom the blue, get real will yer, who you trying to kid, apart from yourself. Enjoyed his time heere or not, would you take a £30,000 A WEEK pay drop, except it, Bullard wont be here next season, because if I was offered a £30,000 a week pay rise I would be out of here, esspecially at his age. And anyone who denies that is a liar.

Jimmy Bullard may not have been here all year,BUT as a team member he has had the biggest influence on team moral, results, fans, this year. So if he were to be voted player of the year i'd have no problem with it,i just hope something can be sorted to keep him in Town shirt next season .

Aussieblue has it ever occurred to you that Bullard doesn't need the money?
