Jewell Set to Speak to Hull About Difficult Deal Monday, 2nd May 2011 08:32
Blues boss Paul Jewell says he will speak to Hull City in the next couple of weeks regarding what he says will be a “very, very difficult” deal to ensure that Player of the Year Jimmy Bullard returns to Portman Road next season. The 32-year-old has two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium.
Jewell says he’d love to have Bullard as part of his squad next season having talked to the player about his future on Friday: “We’d love to have Jimmy here, although I’d also like have Messi here but they’re quite expensive - I don’t know who’s on more money, Jimmy or Messi!
“It is a very, very difficult deal for us to do. I think the owner deserves great credit for doing what he’s done so far.
“I’ll be speaking to Hull over the next week or two to see if we can sort something out for next season.
“Obviously the supporters love him and he’s been really good for us and we’d like to have Jimmy and four or five other players in for the start of next season.”
The Town manager isn’t dismissing the possibility of a further loan: “We will explore all avenues, any way we can do it, we’ll try and do it. I think people have to realise that some things at times aren’t doable but we will endeavour and try our very best to do it.”
Jewell says his side again showed that they’re a team unused to seeing games out during the 2-1 home victory over Preston on Saturday: “We just get to a certain stage in games. We’d got the game won at 2-0 but you just don’t ever get the feeling [that the match is over] because we’ve got a team which over the last two or three years hasn’t gone on and killed games off.
“That’s still here, that’s still a bit of a problem we’ve got and that I’ve been speaking about since I got here — that killer instinct, killer mentality or whatever it is.
“Our goalie’s made some vital saves at some vital times but the game should have been out of sight in the first half. We were 2-0 up and had a couple of other chances.
“We started the second half not great and they came into it. It’s one of the many areas where we have to do better next season.”
The Town manager was impressed with youngsters Troy Brown and Ronan Murray, who was making his first Blues start: “Troy did well considering he started the game with a yellow card after a minute. He did well, I was pleased with him.
“Ronan just tired a bit in the second half. He’s been on loan at Torquay. He made some good runs and was a bit unfortunate not to score himself.
“He did OK, in fact he did better than OK, he did fine until he tired. Obviously it’s nice for youngsters to get in and it would have been nice for him to score.”
Jewell says there have been no new developments on the contract front: “We're no further than we were on Thursday when I was last asked.”

I for one would like to see Priskin play with Bullard, because with the ball at his feet, TP is a quality player. Unfortunately DN and GL just lump the ball over his head.
Here's hoping SC can pull his finger out and do a deal for once - don't want a repeat of the Austin performance TYVM.
With 2 years left on Jimmy's contract the cost to Hull is £4.6m The offer from Town is £20k a week so £1m pa. Karlos of the extra wide wheels suggests a 3 year contract is an option - but realistically despite his age Jimmy would be able to command a £20k/week salary in year 3, so saying we are offering £3m is not realistic. We are offering £2m end of. Now - the point is that Hull could get rid of some of the Jimmy wage bill. If Hull need to pay Jimmy £2m to terminate his contract early then they save £2m and have a happy dressing room and draw a line under an unhappy affair (for them). We can make various payments if we get promoted and maybe let them keep various merchandising rights - but essentially if Hull want to lower their wage bill and throw in the fact that Jimmy is willing to take a cut, then this is an achievable deal. If it is an achievable deal for Mr Clegg is another matter.
WELL DONE TO NORWICH I AM DELIGHTED TO SEE THEM GOING UP' IF ONLY WE HADNT HIRED THAT DROPKICK KEANE WE WOULD BE UP THERE WITH THEM.BUT NEXT SEASON WE WILL BE THERE AND EAST ANGLIAN PRIDE WILL BE RESTORED
I think Bullard will get offers elsewhere that he can't turn down.
Again, as with any player, I say look after number one, so can't blame him. However, what he brought in terms of ability and off the pitch is worth a considerable sum, you're not just buying a player on the pitch with Bullard, he's much much more than that, and worth every penny we pay, and other player would probably respect that.
Personally, and this is a message direct to Bullard. I will send a Mars Bar and a packet of Pickled Onion Monster Munch directly to you, each and every time you score a goal in an Ipswich Town shirt....indefinately...
Take note Jewell...this is how we do business in Suffolk.
2 years at £45k per week is £4.68m so Hull will be desperate to off-load him, JB holds the trump card, but he knows that ITFC will not pay £45k per week and would probably have to settle for £10 to £12k - so it'll be a tussle between passion for money v passion to play. A deal could be : £15k per week plus a bonus of £1.5m and wage rise to £20k if we get promoted to Premier league at end of 11/12, but don't expect JB to agree until he has seen the list of definite ins and outs during the summer to get us promoted.
Oh and by the way, keep Oly(mpics) Clegg well away from the deal - he knows nothing
I bet any deal will be last minute if it involves Ipswich. I can see Hull holding out in the hope one of the promoted teams will offer them a couple of £million. Also if JB is so happy why doesn't he simply say he is prepared to cancel the contract he has with Hull. Me thinks there is another agent situation here of an agent looking for a % of JB's remaining 2 year contract at £45,000 a week even if he leaves Hull
It was refreshing to have a midfielder who you would have confidence in when he was on the ball,be it creating a chance or scoring and made a hell of a difference to us in dead ball situations. How many times can we say we felt Leadbitter would score from a free?He cant even take a decent corner ,overall I dont rate Leadbitter and Norris, they have had their chance and look at us ,move them on along with a few others and lets sign a few professional footballers not guys who look like they play with all the skill of a pub team.
If JB signs for us in the summer I will eat this mouse here in my hand.
The guy is greatful to PJ and Ipswich for putting him back in the shop window ready for his last contract as a player. Why would he want to sign for us when he has the chance to finish his career in the Premier league? I wouldn't, and I'm an Ipswich fan.....
to keep jimmy two of our higher paid guys would have to go,macualey to rangers?is norris off,if we get him be prepared for a loss of one or two of our better players!
