Hull Targeting Norris
Hull Targeting Norris
Sunday, 15th May 2011 21:56

Hull City have emerged as new contenders for the signature of departing Town skipper David Norris. Previously Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Wigan, Crystal Palace and Portsmouth were understood to be the clubs competing for the 30-year-old midfielder, who has told the Blues he will be leaving Portman Road this summer having been unable to agree a new contract.

Norris previously spent time on loan with the Tigers while a Bolton player in 2002, making three starts and three sub appearances, scoring one goal.

Meanwhile, Palace boss Dougie Freedman says his club is unlikely to be successful in their attempt to land the former Plymouth man, having made an £800,000 offer for Norris and Damien Delaney earlier in the year: "I tried in January and I would like to try again.

“But he may be too much for us financially. He is a player I admire and football-wise I'd love to have him, but I won't do anything that may damage the club further down the line. As it stands I would say that we have a 10 per cent chance of getting him to join us."

Elsewhere, Town are again linked with West Brom striker Simon Cox, who the Baggies may be willing to allow to leave if they sign Andy Johnson from Fulham. Blues boss Paul Jewell made unsuccessful loan moves for Cox during the season when he said he could look at the 24-year-old's situation again in the summer.

Jewell was back at his old club Wigan today watching the Latics beat West Ham 3-2 and relegate the Hammers to the Championship.

Norris proved with his agent's flirtation with Palace that it is about money, not ambition so whoever has the most £'s on the contract will get him.

Hardly a step up in his career, QPR or Nottingham Forest I can Understand But Hull ? No

As for Simon Cox, Give it one bid in the summer then if he rejects I'd look elsewhere, But wouldn't mind him here, would get us at least 15 goals.

i think hull will be a decent outfit next season as i rate pearson as a manager, but can't see norris improving the team but will improve the squad. like others have said its all about the money he would go to crawley if they offered the most.

I might be naive here but i genuinely believe the main thing he wanted was a 3 year contract (security) and not for a step up because he knows the championship is his limit now. But just like everyone else on here i'm only speculating and none of us will ever know the truth

Hull preparing for life without Bullard??

Since we were relegated we have shipped out something like 22 players. Last season was a MASSIVE reorganisation exercise and it was a miracle we finished as high as we did.

So it's not preparing for life without Bullard, that was last season and as he has only played for us 24 times in 2.5 years we've already got used to "Life without Bullard"

Norris would be useful, but most at the KC want Greening to come home in his twilight.

BTW isn't it amazing how when a player leaves a Club he turns from being the best thing since sliced bread into the worlds most overrated player. LOL!

i think alot of town fans thought Norris was over rated. One of my mates played with him at argyle, reckoned a poor team made him look good and that he wouldnt shine as much at town, looks like he was right.....

you cant knock his work rate, but i think this is this level, im quite glad were not planning around him thats for sure, hes not that good. reasonable squad player but never going to be a game changer, which IMO you need to be when you want £15k plus a week for 3 years.

I think some got it right earlier.... ''Norris proved with his agent's flirtation with Palace that it is about money, not ambition so whoever has the most £'s on the contract will get him''

totally agree. I think youre right about greening, id have him over Norris every single day of the week. if our clubs are after good squad players id rather them be 22/23/24 than 30, that way if they do step up, theres a fee in it, or they hang about for a while.......

Talking of Jimmy Bullard, would be nice to see him signed this week. Also, although I would love to see us sign Billy Sharp and James Coppinger, their boss seemed adamant that he wanted to keep them [ unless he's just a very good actor ], and unless a revised offer should just somehow make him change his mind, hope so.

@AmberAndBlack - I don't know many town fans who thought Norris was the best thing since sliced bread. Many of us have thought he's over-rated for over two seasons now.

lets be fair norris did have a good season maybe his best as a pro, but the system suited him and our lack of a decent striker enhanced his season (i am not including wickham in that as he is still very young). i honestly think norris and g. mac were our biggest earners and i think we can get better more hungry players for less.

Let's not cry over spilt milk.... SG ducked it up in keeping established players..... Like club captain and best defender.... We have too move on

Folks we can't "swap" Norris for anyone, he's out of contract incase you hadn't noticed!

Bullard has shown more in 6 months than Norris has the entire time he's been here. Norris is a useful player, but unless we've not seen the best of him, he was massively overhyped and overpriced by Plymouth. I'm sure he'll do a decent job wherever he ends up, but I'll be surprised if anybody ever considers him "the best thing since sliced bread".
