Nugent and Chopra Linked Again
Nugent and Chopra Linked Again
Tuesday, 24th May 2011 00:16

Town are once again being linked with a summer move for out-of-contract Portsmouth striker David Nugent. The Blues are also said to be keeping an eye on Cardiff frontman and long-time Roy Keane target Michael Chopra, while Doncaster are claimed to have put a £4 million price on striker Billy Sharp and midfielder James Coppinger.

Nugent, who has scored eight goals in eight games against the Blues and has netted in every match he has played at Portman Road, was a regular loan target of former boss Jim Magilton and was reported to be on Paul Jewell’s summer wish-list towards the end of last month.

Former Bury and Preston man Nugent, who was capped once by England, scored 14 goals during 2010/11.

The 25-year-old, who looks certain to be leaving Pompey during the close season, has also been mentioned in connection with QPR, Blackpool and Bolton.

Chopra was one of ex-Town boss Keane’s main targets last season but the club weren’t prepared to pay the Bluebirds' asking price.

The 27-year-old former Sunderland and Newcastle frontman, who is contracted to Cardiff until 2012, scored 11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances during 2010/11 despite suffering one or two injuries.

Meanwhile, Doncaster want £4 million for Town targets Billy Sharp and James Coppinger, according to one tabloid report. The Blues' £2.6 million offer for the duo was turned down just over a week ago.

Elsewhere, Leicester are reported to have made a £1 million offer for Sheffield United striker Ched Evans, who was also recently linked with Town.

Nice to see this calibre of player being linked with Town, both would add a lot upfront for us... this start making a few other bids and nugent is a free agent so get an offer on the thable for him and tell him we dont hate him really! haha

Wishful thinking. The problem is all these types of players are now being linked with Prem clubs. I think Chopra is a more likely player to want a town switch. You cant help getting the feeling that Nugent loves to get under our skin on and off the pitch. We might be lucky. I hope we are. I just wont be counting my chickens just yet, certainly not on Nugent!
I wouldnt want to be Paul Jewell at the moment. Must be a real pain!

Every Year the same 2....
We will eventually get these players,- when they are both 35/36.
Nice to see us sign Colin Healy. Looking really promising for next season at the moment.
We seem to have an exhaustive list of players that have left the club without replacement.......

Nugent would be a great signing especially if he carries on scoring every time he plays at Portman road

Nugent won't sign as he hates us.

More imagination needed please !

4m for sharp and copinger... is that too much for someone who might help us get promoted?

Yawn...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

We should be starting a sweepstake on how many players ITFC will be linked with before the start of August
It's already starting to get tedious..

billy sharpe would still be my first choice out of all the strikers we have been linked with but donnies £4 million for sharpe and coppinger is unrealistic, £3.2 million tops.

Come on people keep the faith, most people believed the team needed rebuilding, thats whats happening, these are exciting times are nt they? Trouble is we all expected too much under keano, i believe he was the problem, not our location or clegg, nobody wanted to play for him. This is the dawn of yet another new era.
And it has started with the appointment of a superb manager ( could you imagine bullard coming in under keano ? me neither)We really would have a reason to be down if clegg and evans had got Glen Roeder in. Would love Chopra or nugent, Evans Will provide the money when the right acquisitions become available and only those who really want to come to town. COYB

We could be linked with every forward in the top 2 divsions - the reality is that we are probably about Number 35 on the list of clubs that forwards want to sign for and probably number 15 in our division of clubs likely to get promoted.
Maybe Town should be looking at unearthing gems in the lower divisions or someone hungry in the prem reserves David Johnson (Bury), J Walters (Chester) A Armstrong (Boro) etc show that they exist if you know what you are doing.

I'm sure PJewell will be going back in for Sharp, we need two new strikers thou and nugget or chops on a free would be great signings. I suspect no the prem season is over we will finally see some actual action this week... If not I suspect a long summer ahead for TWTD's followers as we scrap for the same players everybody else wants also.

To get the prolific kind of striker we want, we are going to have to spend £3m. All three of Sharp, Chopra and Nugent fall into that bracket. The bottom line is which of them is most enthusiastic about coming to Town. I'd have any of the three, as long as the desire is there.
