First Signing Imminent?
First Signing Imminent?
Monday, 6th Jun 2011 08:55

Town are reportedly close to completing their first signing of the summer. The Blues have been in talks with a number of players since the end of the season but are yet to announce an addition to Paul Jewell’s squad.

If a deal is immediately on the cards as is claimed, there are plenty of candidates. Over the weekend, Town were said to be leading the chase for Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy, who is also understood to have spoken to Reading and Crystal Palace and may have been the player in talks at Portman Road just over a week ago.

Germinal Beerschot midfielder Faris Haroun, Tranmere left-back Aaron Cresswell and Sheffield United striker Ched Evans are just three of many players understood to have been interesting the Blues this summer, while Preston’s Keith Treacy, tipped to be joining the Blues on his return from international duty, is still with the Republic of Ireland ahead of their friendly against Italy on Tuesday.

Chief executive Simon Clegg is currently away representing the club at the Football League AGM in Cyprus.

So Clegg's away, and we're about to make our first signing?

There's a joke in there somewhere, folks...!

Classic TWTD trying to cover every possibility. Could just say "Nosworthy has been mentioned most recently but we haven't really got a clue so here's a list of recent rumours so we can look a bit smug it it's one of them".

Clegg has done his job and the contract is all sorted. The player just needs to pass his medical. Hopefully this will be straight forward and this will be the first of many signings. Onwards and upwards.

Ched Evans.......
Please let it be him, Not Nosworthy, Didn't want to join us last season but nothing better came along so guess what he's changed his mind. Is he here because he wants to play for the club or that were a bunch of mugs and have splashed to much money for a not that good player.

Bet he's laughing all the way to the training ground....

I accept that Clegg has to represent the club at the Football League AGM but why on earth is it in Cyprus????!!!! who's paying for this? probably not too much of a problem for Championship clubs but what about the rest? Another fine example of football's upside-down priorities.

This is a true story - I was told by a member of the 1st team squad on Saturday night that a cb is having a medical this morning with a view to signing. He either said that the player was British or from a British club - I was a little drunk at the time! But the 1st bit is 100% right

It will be one of Nosworthy or this Haroun guy i reckon. Both would be welcome additions. We need a left back, centre back, defensive midfielder and striker for starters. Glad the players we're being linked with aim to cover that list.

*yawn*

How many times have we heard this, & this time id rather it not be true if it is them players. Face it fellow Town fans. We are now a average Championship club which no 'big' player wants to come to... another mediocre season beckons.

:(

Well, there's a nice jolly: Football League AGM in Cyprus! What's wrong with London or Birmingham? What a waste of money!!! Suppose we have to wait until he returns for new signings to be officially announced?

MarcusSg - I'm sorry but that really is an ill-mannered post. All Phil has done, in a news item about an imminent but as yet unidentified signing, is provide a helpful recap of players recently linked with Town as a reminder of who the player might (possibly) be.

If you take a look at most other clubs' fan sites (including most Prem clubs) you'll find they are vastly inferior to TWTD which, in case you may have forgotten, is provided completely free of charge by Phil.

Is this a new manner of reporting? Rather than reporting an event, asking a question?

New signing Imminent - woo hoo, who is it, when are they signing?

New Signing Imminent? - I don't know, I come on here for news, you tell me... What? you don't know? hmmm, maybe best not to report it until that question mark has gone!!!

*yawn* - time to look elsewhere to find some actual information...

Although to be fair LDNTractor actually gives us more detail than the story. LDNTractor, do you have a website for your alcohol related ramblings?

Ditto away fan - yes the lack of progress can be frustrating but TWTD at least gives us some fairly informed commentary about what is happening, which for us exiles is a lifeline. However, not impressed with the likes of Nosworthy and Evans being linked - go abroad or to the lower leagues like we always have. Ferdinand would be an interesting signing though....

Agree with all those supporting Phil. This is a quality site - not so sure about the forum though, but that is hardly Phil's fault.

Where would we all be without Phil's TWTD. It's essential daily reading (and writing - and God knows I need the practise).

Time will tell, but here's where it's at.
