Ingimarsson Set to Join Chopra at Town Friday, 10th Jun 2011 17:14
Released Reading central defender Ivar Ingimarsson looks set to join today’s new signing Michael Chopra at Portman Road later this summer.
The 33-year-old is now believed to be back home in Iceland on holiday but we understand a deal is likely to be completed on his return later in the month or in July when his Royals contract officially comes to an end, having been at Portman Road for talks and to undergo a medical on Wednesday, not Thursday as we previously reported.
Capped 30 times by his country, Ingimarsson began his career in his home country with Valur and IBV before joining Torquay United on loan in October 1999.
A £200,000 switch to Brentford followed a month later, then in July 2002, having been linked with George Burley's Blues, the 6ft ½in tall defender joined Wolves on a free transfer but made little impact at Molineux before moving on to Reading for £175,000 in October 2003.
Since then Ingimarsson, a close friend of former Blue Hermann Hreidarsson, has been a hugely influential figure at the Madejski Stadium, making 276 starts and five sub appearances, scoring 12 goals and also captaining the side. Injuries, however, limited his involvement to 13 starts and one appearance from the bench during 2010/11.
Town are also understood to have made an offer for Preston’s Irish international Sean St Ledger and have been linked with Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce with Paul Jewell likely to be looking for two central defenders this summer to replace the exiting Gareth McAuley and his deputy Troy Brown, while youngster Tom Eastman has also left the club.
Jewell and chief executive Simon Clegg are continuing to talk to a number of potential additions and it may well be that there could be further signings before the completion of Ingimarsson’s move.

IMO I think he's made sure he's got a club to come back to but may well be going back home to see if he can finish his career off there if he can get a decent enough offer, I'd still settle for Pearce and st ledger if that is the case!

Does Wilnis still play? Ridiculous to consider signing anyone that old.

> Why don't people read what's in front of them? We can't sign him yet because he's still under contract to Reading. Reading have released him on a free transfer, so surely he could sign for us straight away if he wanted? That would save Reading three weeks wages so why do you think they would not allow this? McAuley was contracted with us until the end of June, but on 23rd May this website reported that "The Northern Irishman has signed a three-year-deal with the Baggies which starts on July 1st. Sm1ffy :- Why not just take it on face value, maybe he really has gone on holiday. We've had enough bad news, lets enjoy some good news for a change. Obviously everyone's been working hard behind the scenes, a big thankyou to all !

I just think had he been 100% on wanting to sign it would be tied up before he went, personally I'm not worried if he signs or not as I'm sure there are other CBS out there of equal ability but a bit younger but will still be happy if he signs, just thought id give my view on what I think

Daleyitfc, what's the problem about being 33? It's not 53. You can still play cb at that age, and for 2 or 3 more years, no problems

Sm1ffy I don´t think we have to worry about Ivar getting a better offer in Iceland, the wages in football here in Iceland can never match what a player of his caliber can get abroad, I think icelandic players will want to play for as long as they can abroad becouse it is more challenging, longer season and better pay. And if he talked to Hermann Hreidarsson then he´s more likely to sign, as Hermann liked his time at Ipswich very much.

Mark I do reckon we are still paying McAuley until then though, as his Baggies contract starts on July 1st he will have to be paid inbetween leaving us and Joining them (not that he needs it). Agree with your general point though I'm sure we could sign him now if he wanted. As someone has suggested he may be off back home to see if he can secure a deal through to the end of his career back there. Even if not, fair enough if he wants to have his holiday, then come back and sign in his own time and make sure everything is concrete instead of completing the deal in a rush a day before he leaves.

Be very happy if does sign as have always rated him. The only slight worry is that he has dodgy knees and did miss a fair bit of Readings season. Well worth a punt though and much prefer him to St. Ledger who will cost us far too much money probably well over £1m. Ingimarsson will also be a good call for skipper.
