Ellington Delighted to Be Reunited With Jewell
Ellington Delighted to Be Reunited With Jewell

New Town signing Nathan Ellington said he was delighted to be reunited with his former Wigan and Derby boss Paul Jewell after signing a two-year deal with the Blues earlier today. The 29-year-old says the Liverpudlian is the manager who has got the best out of him throughout his career.

Speaking at a Portman Road press conference this afternoon, Ellington said: “I’m very happy to be joining Paul Jewell again.

“He’s excited at the job he has here at Ipswich and what lies in store for the club. He sold me on that and I am very happy to be joining a big club like Ipswich.

“When you play for a club you have to have a manager who believes in you and I think he’s believed in me the most over my career, and that’s produced good football for me and winning football for him. It’s a recipe for success really.”

The Bradford-born striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston, says he hopes Jewell will replicate the job he did with the Latics: “I think he built a great squad at Wigan. Not only were they great on the field but we had a togetherness like nowhere else I’ve ever been.

“I know he knows all the components that you need to make a successful team, obviously he managed that at Wigan and he was trying to recreate that at Derby, but obviously things didn’t work out exactly how he wanted.

“I have a lot of faith in him as a manager and he has a lot of faith in me as a player and he knows how to bring out the best in me. I’m happy to be working with a manager like that again and getting back to what I know I can do.”

Chief executive Simon Clegg added: “We’re delighted that Nathan’s with us and will be with us for the next couple of seasons. He’s had an extensive career, has had a good goalscoring record in seasons gone by and has worked with the manager on a couple of occasions, both with Wigan Athletic and at Derby County on loan.

“He’s a good signing for the club, the third signing of the summer and we continue to be very excited and very upbeat in terms of what we can achieve with the squad going forward.”

Clegg refused to be drawn on any further possible signings, keeping to the club’s usual policy of not commenting on speculation, although he confirmed that Ellington won’t be the last player through the Portman Road doors this summer.

Im really chuffed by this. His goalscoring record has been terrible in the last few seaons, but then again they all go through those spells!. Jewell will hopefully get the best out of this guy, and i like the idea that he speaks very highly of Jewell! can only be good for them all :)

Now sort out the rest of the pitch!

COYB!!!!!!!!!!!

very silly beard.

Good signing though, i hope he can chip in with a few goals next season to lighten the load on Wickham and Chopra. As for Priskin and Scotland? See ya!

Exactly, why not sign someone like Ellington. It isnt has if we are paying any money in transfer fees for him and who knows he could get 15+ goals next season which I would be more than happy with. And plus, I can't see him being on extortionate wages as clearly he wants to play under Jewell.

at PR couple of seasons ago i watched this guy come on as a late sub for watford. You could really feel his "larger than life" presence turn the game & i wasnt a bit surprised when he got em a late, late equalizer

Hmmmm of course you are glad to be here Nathan. Better than the dole queue isn't it??

Actually, he may be a good partner for Chopra come to think of it. Nathan is big enough to keep Chops out of the betting shop and making sure that he attends his psychological therapies !!!!

PaulSimmons you are a joke mate! You're obviously a stato and don't watch the game with your eyes. He'll add something that we haven't had for a while. He won't be on a payrise. 29 past it????? what footballing planet are you on?

well done PJ! You the man!

Can't understand all this negativity. He knows where the net is and with good service will score goals and he was FREE!

The negativity is from budgies or fools (same thing I guess) of which PaulSimmons is a neon illumination.
Welcome in Nathan, hope you have a great time with us and for us.

Good luck Nathan, not the best but he's on a free and was good under Jewell in the past.

The jury is out on Nathan, but i certainly live in hope. He can be very good on his day and a good experienced striker on a free... got to be worth it. When you consider how much we have payed for a number of strikers whose goal to game ratios have been woeful once they joined us. Let's hope he can start setting them up and banging them in.

What he says about PJ is just fantastic and whilst we would all say nice things about the guy who has signed us 3 times.... this is consistent with what everyone seems to say about PJ.

I also like the fact PJ seems to be able to find bargains. Nathan may not turn into our next Messiah, but on a free he only has to knock in a few each year to be a shrewd signing.

Really good news Mr Clegg and it's good to see you haven't been lounging around on the beach getting a suntan.
Clearly Mr "Nat King" Ellington has aready had his (probably a deckchair on Wigan Pier if I'm any judge) and will be wanting to sharpen his 20 yard sprints for the next few weeks with the lads. I have him pencilled in for 17 goals plus 25 from Chopra and 15 Wickham. Carson is good for 10, Priskin 12, Scotland the same. We need Campbell in the middle and Nobby Stiles on the right (with his glasses) and if we could only get Mr Jewell fit (some hope) we'll be scoring 140 goals next season with a goal difference of +30.
Can we get another loan deal on Mr Bullard?

Come on guys lets give him a chance to prove he still has something too offer!

Paul Jewell got the best out of him at Wigan when he was playing along side Roberts and i can't see why he cant do the same with Wickham or Chopra beside him.

If he performs to his potential could be a snip!!!!

Definitely need to give him a chance... especially those 'fans' who have been going on about us not signing anyone to date. There aren't many players (except for one or two players signed possibly in desparation by Keane) who we have brought in recently that have previously been seven figure forwards, and you have to give people an opportunity to shine. We may all live in hope of getting the Dos Santos and Bullards in but they i) cost ridiculous sums in terms of transfer fees, and ii) mean we resort to just chucking the money around rather than giving some considered thought to who actually might
make a difference to the Town. Now just keep the coming Clegg/PJ.

Have many friends who are Watford supporters. When we signed Priskin they told me he was a one trick pony who will give you 1 good game in 5....sadly that standard was not reached. They are delighted Ellington has joined Town as they rated him even worse than Priskin...somebody else way past their sell by date was another remark
