Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Thursday, 23rd Jun 2011 11:42

Town boss Paul Jewell says there will definitely be further additions to his squad before the season gets under way on Saturday 6th August at Bristol City. The Blues manager has already brought in strikers Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington and defender Ivar Ingimarsson this summer.

Jewell says he is confident that more signings will follow: "I want to let the supporters know that we have a lot of business to do yet.

"I've probably been off the phone about 10 minutes since last season ended. I've been here, there and everywhere talking to players and agents, but I'm experienced enough to know that getting players in always takes time.

"The fans probably want to see us signing five, six, seven players, and we are looking at doing that, but as I said, we have to be patient.

"There will definitely be more players at this football club for August 6th. No question about that. Ideally I'd like to have everyone on board by the time we return to pre-season training at the start of July, but in reality that never happens.

"There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and I'm confident we can get in the players we need to give this club a better chance of reaching the Premier League.

"We could sign 10 players tomorrow, but it's getting the right players that counts. It's quality not quantity."

Meanwhile, Town have confirmed that the home first round Carling Cup tie against Northampton will be played on Tuesday 9th August with a 7.45pm kick-off as expected.

Ellington has drifted way too long and done nothing for several years. Phillips is still knocking them in, albeit with sub appearances in the PREMIER LEAGUE.

One concession I would make is that Ellington MAY work good alongside Phillips as a target man.........

Or maybe as Chopra as a target man.....

Did you watch the YuoTbue of his Preston performances? His link up play was excellent.

So many positive comments - Can hardly believe my eyes and I'm going to leave another...

Had my fair share of moaning and disappointment in recent seasons and last season I felt like all life had been beaten out of me, personally I enjoyed 94/95 season more than last (and that includes the 9-0!)

But..... It PJ is definately in the hunt, I love the fact we are linked with a much better calibre of player, and instead of all the broken promises we have become used to in the past he is actually delivering players, I'm not totally sure I would have gone after the exact ones he has but you cannot dispute the quality.

I wasn't that excited by his appointment in Jan, I felt we could have done better, I've been equally as un-impressed with our inability to finalise deals but PJ I think is doing a great job - obviously this will be proved on results but he has certainly got my support, since he has been in charge we've seen Bullard, Dyer, Chopra, Inigmarsson, Ellington all come in - Top pro's to what we've been used too and the lad Drury which looks promising.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing who the next ones are in, would love to see him rekindle a bid for Sharp and Coppinger, the lad at Tranmere sounds good - as does the one at Bournemouth, St Leadger would be great - would be nice to see a quality midfielder come in also or maybe a proper little goal poacher such as Earnshaw.

Blooo Army......

Ambrose, Danns, Cressewell, Coppinger, St. Ledger/Pearce and a right back please (in an optimistic and ideal world). The right back I think will be the toughest to find.

I don't think we really need a new keeper, I would save the hassle of selling Fulop and then having to find someone better for the same/cheaper price as I think Fulop is more than capable in this league (Cardiff away springs to mind).

Should keep Fulup. He is a classy keeper but he needs a run in the team in front of a regular back four.

So you would play him as holding midfielder Whoppit? Poor Hyam will never get a look in!

If we can ship out Scotland, Priskin, Civelli and Fulop. and loan out Murray, Hyam and Smith. Lets bring in Loach, Smith from Spurs, Pearce, Cresswell, Danns, Treacy and Sharp. If we do sell Wickham we maybe will get him back on season long loan this would leave a team of.

Loach
Edwards/Smith Ingarmarsson Pearce Cresswell
Carson Danns Leadbitter Treacy
Chopra/ Sharp Wickham

Subs
Lee- Barrett
Ellington
Drury
Delaney
Kennedy
Martin
Peters

Anyone who seriously thinks that signing any player who will be *38* at the start of the next season is better than signing Michael Chopra is a moron.

fulop does not have a squad number anymore, and is not in player profiles on itfc.co.uk.

Heard on good authority that Norwich are looking to send Simeon Jackson out on a season long loan as he is short of experience at a higher level. I know he's from Norwich but he has great pace and looked a lively prospect towards the end of last season.

Good suggestion neil rumsey. He looked lively for Canada in a couple of the recent Gold Cup games.

Thought Danny Shittu might be worth a punt as i think he is on a free . Also hows about Nigel Reo-coker for a bit of bite in midfield ? Lars Jacobson and John Pantsil could probably do a good job at full back in the championship and their all on free's
