New Quartet In Squad But Ingimarsson Again Missing
New Quartet In Squad But Ingimarsson Again Missing
Tuesday, 19th Jul 2011 10:34

Town have confirmed that new signings Michael Chopra, Lee Bowyer, Aaron Cresswell and Nathan Ellington are all in the squad for this evening’s friendly against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium (KO 7.45pm). Icelandic defender Ívar Ingimarsson, however, remains on the sidelines.

The former Reading man picked up a thigh injury early in pre-season training and also missed the victories over Dutch sides FC Eindhoven and Den Bosch.

Cambridge boss Jez George is expecting his Blue Square Bet Premier side to be given a tough test: "I know Ipswich have got a number of games in a short period of time, but I expect them to bring a fairly strong team and that’s what we’ve prepared for.

"The tempo will be higher because they’ll move the ball quicker and that will be a really good workout for the squad as we won’t have as much of the ball as we did on Saturday.

"A lot of the work we’ve done so far has been with the ball because we needed to work on that respect from the end of last season and we’re trying to bed in a lot of that forward play.

"This will give us the chance to get the principles of defending right which are very important and look to get that team compactness and shape against better opposition than we’ll play against during the season.

"It will be hard work for us, but this is a good time for this game to come as we’re stepping things up over the next couple of weeks."

Town fans will be in the South Stand with seats costing £12 for adults, £8 for concessions and £4 for under-16s.

Who are we going to have in central defence on a regular basis? We need another central defender asap.

i suspect Tommy Smith and Delany will be there if someone else dosnt come in......

£12 - its a big game for Cambs, they need to draw revenue, you cant blame them for getting what they can.......

£12 for a friendly is about the same as Cambridge charge for a league game, and (hopefully) the quality tonight will be a lot better. I'm going! Damn sight cheaper than watching Town at home against non-league opposition would be in the cup...

All the more reason to go out and get another centre-back signed up if Ingimarsson is going to be injury prone..Smith isn't the long term answer over the season.

I hope he's not going to be constantly injured, memories of Ian Marshall pulling his groin pushing a shopping trolley spring to mind with this bloke.

Bit concerned that Ingimarsson is a "sick note", having missed most of last season thru injury. Pleased with our new signings in general, but can't help being worried that we are weak on the right side of defence. Still no recognised right back since David Wright was released, what seems like an age ago, and no cover for our veteran injury prone new man.

Most people on this site, who go to the match, will be paying four quid, surely?

Ívar Ingimarsson out of action again? Should we be getting worried whether he will be fit (physically and match) for the start of the season?

I hope Town live up to Mr George's expectations. I think we will have a good season but we are still one or two short of a promotion contending squad. Particularly at the back if Ivan turns out to be sick note Ingimarsson. Remember Thatcher?

need to sort the defence and quickly two CBs and a RB (even for back up to Edwards) needed as they say you must build the team from the back and with flapper fullop in goal not sure we have the strongest foundations! happy with the striker situation even without a new purchase but would like a fast winger and a creative midfielder please Mr Jewell!

Just three defenders, two midfielders and presumably a goalkeeper then. Just over half a team, no problem.

I see ' Ivar the Terribly Sick ' is at it again. ' When ' he eventually plays, I hope he lives up to the hype of being a true professional and gives us all something to endear us to him.

Bit obvious, and has been for ages that we need another very good CB. Wish we would not put all eggs in one basket when it comes to targeting signings. Our current defence will get large kicks up their bottoms if they dont learn to play 95 minutes instead of 90...

runningout - what evidence have you got that we are putting are eggs all in one basket for a signing. complete ignorance to think PJ isn't chatting to a number of players. It's a good thing that not all transfer targets are a matter of public discussion.

You need to be shrewd in the transfer market and I very much doubt that you are the centre of all knowledge for Ipswich transfers - face it you and nobody else knows all that's going on. PJ is doing a fantastic job.

Bang on Blue Lady - two CBs and a Right Back and a decent central midfielder. As I have said previously (fingers crossed) all this wide player / striker talk must be a smokescreen while we sew the really important positions up unless PJ sees something in our back four that most of us don't. Yes, players there would be good (Treacy or Whiitingham) but not priority.

The stooges paid by the Invisible Man are busy on here today.

Real fans face facts.

Town are heading south under this poor management.
