New Quartet In Squad But Ingimarsson Again Missing Tuesday, 19th Jul 2011 10:34
Town have confirmed that new signings Michael Chopra, Lee Bowyer, Aaron Cresswell and Nathan Ellington are all in the squad for this evening’s friendly against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium (KO 7.45pm). Icelandic defender Ãvar Ingimarsson, however, remains on the sidelines.
The former Reading man picked up a thigh injury early in pre-season training and also missed the victories over Dutch sides FC Eindhoven and Den Bosch.
Cambridge boss Jez George is expecting his Blue Square Bet Premier side to be given a tough test: "I know Ipswich have got a number of games in a short period of time, but I expect them to bring a fairly strong team and that’s what we’ve prepared for.
"The tempo will be higher because they’ll move the ball quicker and that will be a really good workout for the squad as we won’t have as much of the ball as we did on Saturday.
"A lot of the work we’ve done so far has been with the ball because we needed to work on that respect from the end of last season and we’re trying to bed in a lot of that forward play.
"This will give us the chance to get the principles of defending right which are very important and look to get that team compactness and shape against better opposition than we’ll play against during the season.
"It will be hard work for us, but this is a good time for this game to come as we’re stepping things up over the next couple of weeks."
Town fans will be in the South Stand with seats costing £12 for adults, £8 for concessions and £4 for under-16s.

tommy smith is an excellent backup cb and maybe maybe he can break into the first team on a more regular basis. remember that this guy played in the WORLD CUP in all three games keeping 2 clean sheets and only missed out on the second round due to poor goal differance. once again churchmans the speaker of truth and fact.

Left defenders - Delaney, Smith, Kennedy, Cresswell, O'Connor, Whight Right defenders - Ingimarsson, and er... who else? I wonder which area of the field we need to stengthen the most?

What exactly has created this 'poor management' concept in your mind Basil_smallpiece? what exactly are you so disgruntled with?
rosseden added 13:39 - Jul 19
''what exactly are you so disgruntled with? '' hed rather have peter risdale or milan mandoric, all noise and no action, rather than a proven business man running the club like a, erm, business..... i think the 'real fans' he refers to are the ones who live in the real world, where the business drives the other areas of the club...... Basil why dont you and Hazlebum go and support Pompey...... they run a club the way you seem to think fit.......

Very true Rosseden. i guess the problem with Hazelbum and Basil is that they can't really see things beyond face value. Everything has to be spelt out for them and decisions explained in Layman's terms. There couldn't possibly be things actually going on behind the scenes could there?

Premature to suggest that we're heading south this coming season Basil, in fact "real fans" get behind their team through thick and thin. Personally see exciting times ahead under Paul Jewell's tenure.

The defence was poor last season and to date no new players have been brought in to improve it. This is of concern as it is unlikely, on past experience, that a number of defenders will be recruited before the season starts. Hopefuly the management has some response to this othewise we could be seeing a lot of goals at Portman Road this season. As an optimist hopefully we will score more that the opposition!

It boring hearing link this link that I know PJ Doing a good job but haven't had a signing in a few weeks common we need a new RB CB then midfield & striker if scotland goes maybe goal keeper. I hope this isnt the team for this year.

Agreed on right back an RCB.... And like has been said, we havnt had one since the reliable David Wright went. Carlos Edwards is no RB, he proved that at Arsenal.... Deffinately the area that needs stregthening as a priority before anywhere else...

Ãvar Ingimarsson's injury record was a concern when we signed him - and it now seems people were justifiably concerned. Three games - none played. Just Delaney and Smith at the club as CB's. Expect PJ to act very quickly as for me that pairing are nowhere near good enough.

Basilsmallpiece + Hazelbum = disgruntled Naaaridge fans in disguise. Get real you two. Already great strides have been made under Mr Jewell. There will be more to come, get behind our club, not crucify it before a ball has been kicked in anger, or are you both just naturally VERY pessimistic?????

Smallpiece, small brain, small ..... whatever your name is, stick to spouting your pointless rubbish on the EADT website. TWTD is for real fans.
