Town boss Paul Jewell says he wants to hear more noise from his players during the season ahead. The Blues manager feels the squad he inherited at Portman Road is one of the quietest he has known.

Jewell is yet to name the club’s new captain, although he plays down the importance of the role, believing the everyone needs to be more vociferous: "The choice of skipper is not a big issue but as a squad, we are a quiet team.

“They are one of the quietest teams I have worked with, to be honest, and it is something that we have been working on since we got here.

"Naturally a lot of the players are quiet lads and we're trying to drag that out of them to get them upbeat and noisy because you want leaders on the pitch."

Grant Leadbitter and Lee Bowyer have skippered the side during pre-season, Damien Delaney also wearing the armband for a part of one of the games in Holland.

The rest of the stadium is always quiet! especally when we are down and we need to hear the crowd the most!!

Mr Jewell would like to hear the players talking and shouting to each other whilst they engage in the game of football. This will be the means of drawing attention of their fellow team members of the possibility of a pass or an opposition player about to tackle them. he believes that this will enable them to work in cohesion with each other and thus raise collective performance on the pitch. In other words he wants them to talk to each other to help each other and the more they do this the less likely they are to make the stupid mistakes that seemed to be such a part of our play last year. His comments have absolutely nothing to do with the noise the fans make!

BlakeyBlue added 14:20 - Jul 21 Tractorboy2434 you can't expect something to happen every day. So far I think we've had a very good transfer window getting players in and very good pre-season. What PJ is doin for this club is 100% times better than Keane ever done but u can't expect us to go buying players everyday like Leicester etc. PJ is being very cleaver with the types of players he's getting so don't really care how long it takes along as we keep gettin the right players in. There is way more goin on than any of us know but ITFC always keep very tight lipped so u can't blame Phil for tryin to give us all the info he possibly can even if it ain't alot!!!

B1TFC added 14:23 - Jul 21 Tractorboy2434, I'm not sure that we're a club where nothing happens, I can think of plenty in a worse position than ours, and all phil is doing is passing on the news/quotes he recieves from the people he actually has contact with! Some sites arent as fortunate an have people that come up with any ok dribble they read in the papers! I think you'll find this site is respected by most others and they quite often use this site and quote it on their own! So while I understand the quiet time it has been the last say 10 days because no one has joined, I feel the comments are a bit OTT maybe? Surco72 - brilliant!!
