Delaney Should Be Back for Hull Monday, 8th Aug 2011 12:44
Town boss Paul Jewell says central defender Damien Delaney should be fit for Saturday’s home game against his former club Hull City despite being withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to the ankle injury he suffered at Bristol City at the weekend.
Jewell said: “It’s swollen up. He got some treatment yesterday and I think he’ll be OK for the weekend. He’s just tweaked his ankle ligaments and they can be a little bit sore.
“It happened just before half-time. He tried to carry on and once we got the third goal he couldn’t carry on any more. He’s a doubt for the weekend but I’m sure he’ll be OK.”
Tommy Smith, who replaced Delaney in the 63rd minute at Ashton Gate, appears certain to start against Northampton on Tuesday with the Blues likely to go into the match with no recognised central defensive cover on the bench

Who is currently our 4th choice centre back? Leadbitter? Kennedy?

Youngster Jidi Maduako played a bit in pre-season, and Joe Whight can cover at centre-back although is more a left-back (and it is a bit unfair to play youngsters out of position like Keane did with Eastman). We badly need defensive cover though, and Jewell knows it and is working on it.

Good news if he is back for the Hull match, there's little cover is he unavailable.

I was just wondering really, as i suspect PJ would (in a perfect world) like to rest Ingi for tomorrow's game but can't really as there's litterally no one to put in there. Think it would crazy and grossly unfair to put Whight or Maduako there. Some people on the forum are suggesting Ainsley but he's a right back really. Clearly PJ wants a centre back, kinda hoping he gets him in time for tomorrow!!!!

what do we do if he doesent? if premier leauge teams have 4 CB and play less games what will we do with 3 at the miniute it would probably go like this 1-Ivrangerson 2-Delaney 3-Smith 4-Kenedy 5-Ainsley 6-Hyam or Leadbitter

JET can also play CB with Carson coming back in on the wing

Not convinced on delaney and Ingirmasson as a pairing at present. We lost far too many headers in the box saturday, looked short of pace and played a few too many short balls in bad areas. Early days though i guess.
