Kennedy: Players Need to Look at Themselves
Kennedy: Players Need to Look at Themselves
Monday, 22nd Aug 2011 11:37

Mark Kennedy says he and his fellow Town players need to take a “long hard look” at themselves after the Blues’ recent heavy defeats. The former Ireland international apologised to fans for Saturday’s latest thrashing at Peterborough.

Kennedy, a second-half sub at London Road, said: "A club like Ipswich shouldn't be performing like we did at Peterborough and hand on heart that boils down to the players. We all need to have a long hard look at ourselves and start taking responsibility for it.

"It wasn't good enough. We know that, and I think I speak on behalf of the rest of the lads in the dressing room by apologising to the fans and saying that we are determined to get things right."

He added: "Everybody in our dressing room has to appreciate how good our fans are. I've played in teams before where we have been winning at half-time and still been booed off.

“Here the fans have been right behind us in every match and we need to remember just how lucky we are to have fans like that supporting us, and the sooner we realise that, the better.”

Meanwhile, Wolves are the latest club to be linked with a move for Town target Jimmy Bullard, who is expected to become a free agent today after Hull City terminated his contract.

Do the talking on the pitch please. Heard all the rhetoric too many times. Not interested in player interviews.

How about this for an idea to get you lot (Ipswich first team)playing. If you get whipped again against Leeds at at the weekend, you each forfeit your weekly wage and that goes towards the "Help for Heros" Charity. Men and women really fighting for their living.

Come on Blue Boys put your money where your mouth is. We will be paying decent money to come and watch and support you and I will damned if I turn up to watch a load of old pony again.

I haven't been to a training session in many a year. But it seems that perhaps a few players are not there either. When they cross that white line they seem totally clueless as to where they are supposed to be playing and who is even on their team, what formation they are supposed to be playing and who they are supposed to be marking. Whether they are playing a defensive back line or pushing up to squeeze the play but ready to drop and nullify the breaks.
I missed the 1st half hour Saturday as I was coming home from my game. But by time I had settled in front of the TV we had gone from 1-1 to 4-1 in just a few minutes. How the defence can capitulate so easily is totally beyond me. And to such a poor team as Peterborough. it really raises serious issues about the future of all the defenders in this team.

I made a polite call to the ticket office this morning(11.30am) to demand a full refund for that clown show on Saturday and apparantly I was the 1st complaint that they had recieved.........WHAT A LOAD OF BULLS**T!!!! The outcome is that all complaints should be directed to that idiot clegg, funny enough they couldn't find his email address. This club of OURS is a complete joke!!!!

Kennedy is one of those who does show some determination and communication skills. Come on lads, let's exploite your frustration and anger on Leeds, if you have any!

The only way is up - Town!

The only good thing about Saturday was the fact it highlighted we should pull out all the stops to get George Boyd. Thats if he wants to come here of course.

Hopefully the fact the captain hasnt apologised is because he is busy signing a contract at Portsmouth. A disgraceful performance from him way above anyone else on the pitch (and thats saying something.)

I appreciate what Kennedy is trying to do here, but it's just talk. I want to see decisive action, not just the same old whinging from the manager about not being able to sign defenders and clichéd apologies to the fans from players. To go into the season proper with only two first choice centre halves, one of which is highly injury prone, is incompetent. For the rest of the team to completely crumble under a little pressure, is incompetent. These needs to be fixed NOW, not next week, not in three months time, NOW.

Fair play to Mark Kennedy here.....He knows its not right how we are currently playing, he's doing the captains job....The captain takes responsibilty for leading the team on and off the pitch, but as usual Leadbitter is quiet.....This team of players do not communicate, and even PJ has said that its the quietest team he has ever managed.......One word boys. COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know its too early too talk about relagation, but unless things pick up through the season, it will be league one next season.......COYB

How about you stop looking at yourself and start looking at your wallets and very large bank statements and put your hand in your pocket Mark as a collective suggestion and get the players to pay back our ticket and travel money

Haven't the players had this long hard look at themselves previously? Like after the 5-1 defeat at home to Norwich, after 5-2 v Soton? How many more long hard looking at themselves do they have to do?

I suggest the players refund the supporters who travelled.

I think Kennedy has looked ok in the holding midfield role and can pass the ball well, i would like to see him Andrews and Bowyer in the middle until bullard signs!!!

@victorywilhappen are you for real? That email has gone in the file marked b for bin. Armchair manager. No thought that getting the most out of the current crop is as important as ferrying in new blood?

Thanks for the posts, much prefer your content than the negative stuff, we have some good players and some problem areas. Everyone knows that CB and RB are our weaknesses (plus a play maker to really make it all gel).

I guess PJ has been looking for an instant quality premiership proven defender, which I can understand and if Ingimarsson had stayed fit that would have worked out OK. Ingimarsson made a good start but we now know that he is going to have injury problems and we need someone solid and dependable now while we look around for that perfect player.

Interesting comment about Marko Suler, as you say would work well with our potential Slovenian RB signing. He has international experience, 27 senior games and two goal, is likely to be very solid but two footed and with some ball skills as well.

Sounds like a very good spot.

Who would you have as captain ?

"Who would you have as captain ?"

Perhaps the fact we are posting comments on Mark Kennedy's not Grant Leadbitter's news item answers that question!
