| Town Target Villa Defender Monday, 22nd Aug 2011 23:19

Town are reported to want to take Aston Villa centre-half Shane Lowry on loan. The 22-year-old is understood to be available with the Blues having watched him in reserves action tonight with a view to getting a deal done as soon as Tuesday. Australian Lowry played the full 90 minutes of tonight’s second string game as Villa drew 0-0 at Blackburn. Lowry, who is 6ft 1in tall, joined Villa from ECU Joondalup in his home town of Perth in 2005. His Irish parentage led to caps alongside former Blues Billy Clarke and Owen Garvan at U21 level having previously featured for the Republic's U17s. The left-sided central defender or full-back, who was linked with Millwall earlier in the summer, has made three sub cup appearances for Villa but has so far played no league games for the Premiership club. Lowry spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle and Leeds in 2009/10 and at Sheffield United last season, facing Town both for the Pilgrims and Blades. Contracted to Villa until 2012, Lowry was named in the provisional Australia squad for the 2010 World Cup having switched international allegiance in 2009, but failed to make the final cut and is yet to win a full cap.

This is good news - any fresh blood is welcome. Would love to see an experienced CB to accompany him.
Maybe Nyron Norsworthy.

When is Ingamarsson going to be fit?

Possible 1 out of 3.... Hoppefully Edwards, Smith & Dleany will be replaced come the Leeds game.
Sounds more like a dream though. My Grans up for a game - and can't do any worse than those 3 wasters....

might happen but more than likely not....please just start lookin to league 1 and 2 Paul, plenty of players hungry and far better than what we have got down there that are playing first team, competitive football...less likely to get brushed off the ball like we saw on saturday!

Would be a useful addition if it happens. Still need to add some experience to the back line though. But we all know that dont we?! Maybe take habib beye from them to fill in at right back?........sigh

Guy at work told me Nosworthy is absolute dog at Sheff Utd. One of the big factors in them being relegated.
Lowry sounds a good start, but still need a few more before I breath a little easier!

One player isn't the answer but its a step in the right direction. Coyb! Leeds will expect a walk over but I'm not so quietly confident we are in for some points!

Hasnt been capped by australia yet and not played a league game for Villa. Is he likely to be any good? Smith has played for NZ FFS !
What about a league one player like that nice chap Chris morgan at the blades. Good captain , gets stuck in and is good at this level.

doubt you'd get morgan he's player/coach now

Looking down the leagues is all well and good (and sometimes cheaper) but a decent prem reserve centre bk will be have a lot to prove and probably the ability to go with it! Apart from the odd few, most lower league player are lower league players because thats their level.

Good point John...we need a RCB unless we get a replacement in for Delaney. Any news on Ingy's progress?

Agree that we really need a right-sided center-back but if he improves us then I can't complain.

I agree with Bluue_Square. No more trying out Edwards at full-back, no more chances for Smith and Delaney. They can be squad players at best, but preferably off-loaded or loaned out, and develop some promising young CBs. Which means getting some in, as there are none near the grade left at PR.

Leftsided? I hope this is ballbags.
Jay Demerit? Reda Johnson? Troy Brown?

What? Offer 1m for a defender that just left on a Bosman because he didnt want to sign a new contract for us!?
It's good that we're targeting defenders as the defence we have at the moment is clueless. Who do we have?

Cresswell - A good young and hungry player with something to prove and who has played well so far.
Ingi - A golden oldie who's injury prone, but our best CB by far.
Smith - A headless chicken
Delaney - Another headless chicken
Edwards - A right midfielder who was supposed to be a SHORT TERM solution for our lack of RBs
Ainsley - Young and inexperienced who is not ready for this level, but could improve if loaned out to lower leagues.

So in other words, we have only have two useful defenders, and one of them is injury prone and on a one year deal. Jewell, yes you have tried to make signings, but have failed. You probably wont be able to sign anyone before the window closes, and we'll end up with loanees. THAT IS ONLY A SHORT TERM SOLUTION! What will happen at the end of the season when Andrews, Stockdale, and our other one or two loanee defenders leave!? Not to mention Ingi and Bowyer and half the rest of the teams contracts will be up! It looks like we're in for a poor season, and who would want to resign after that? I think we're staring relegation right in the face... I hope I'm wrong.

I'm losing faith in you PJ, you better be able to turn this around.

What im saying is, it means is we'll have even more of a team to try and rebuild/replace next season. If that doesnt relegate us this season, it certainly will next season.

| Hungry_Badger added 01:31 - Aug 23
weve got to be careful, i know we need defenders but we need to be getting in the right players for the team, we need quality not just any Tom, Dick or Lowry.

| ericgates added 05:28 - Aug 23
victorywilhappen-I think its really cool what you're doing with all your investigation work on players. Lowry is a good start, as it is a sign that Jewell knows Smith and Delaney are both not good enough, as he is left sided. I'm uneasy that he has no 1st team experience, just reserves, but I will continue to trust PJ's judgement.

Jens Berthel Askou (solid CB from Norwich) Stephen Brogan (good left back from Rotherham, broke leg in 2009, but would allow Cresswell to move forward)
Stephen Brooker (doncaster) Target man for chopra to feed off
Lars Jacobson West Ham-Solid right back
Robert Kozluk Sheff Utd -solid right back
Stuart Parnaby Birmingham -good right back
Marcel Seip Plymouth- Good CB or RB
sol campbell Newcastle Excellent CB
christian dailly Charlton good CB
jonathan fortune charlton good cb
zurab khizanishvili blackburn excellent cb
PABLO hero!!!
Scott Dobie-good striker/target man
alan gow notts county - good target man
james mcfadden birmingham excellent cf
cedric van der gun -swansea -good cf or wide man
darren carter preston good cm
tamir cohen bolton good cm
jason koumas-wigan unlocks defences
gavin mahon -qpr midfield enforcer
kevin mcdonald burnley excellent cm

All these players are available for nothing and i'd say most would be really happy to lay for a club of towns stature, making us a team again.
