Jewell Set to Meet Leadbitter on Wednesday
Jewell Set to Meet Leadbitter on Wednesday
Tuesday, 6th Sep 2011 13:38

Boss Paul Jewell has revealed that he will be talking to skipper Grant Leadbitter on Wednesday. The 25-year-old, who was targeted by Portsmouth last month, is out of contract at the end of the season with the Blues manager believing that the uncertainty over the midfielder's future has affected his form.

Jewell has stated on a number of occasions that the former Sunderland man will be offered new terms and says he will speak with the ex-England U21 international tomorrow: "I'll be seeing him Wednesday to have a chat about things in general.

"We want to be on top of the situation, we don't want questions, questions, questions about players' contracts running down."

The Town manager has previously said that he wants to avoid a repeat of the situations which developed with David Norris and Gareth McAuley last season.

Sign him up then sell him, just don't lose another player who has cost Town millions for free!

Don't think it's affected his form. Grant's playing just as badly as last season

Sign him up, it may see a return to form.

Hope we don't allow more contracts to run out like last year.

Not a Leadbitter fan but are players need to be offered longer contracts to keep their value.

probably worth offering him something as we paid 2.6m

'the uncertainty over his future has affected his form'

He must have clubs after him from day one then!

Is it a co-incidence that they are meeting tomorrow and Thursday being the beginning of the loan window?

25, the way he has been getting around the pitch thought he was due to retire! Def dont want to lose him on a free but not sure his form deserves a new contract.

Grant Leadbitter has sadly been a major disappointment since arriving at PR. I cant help but feel he will move on in the Jan window, with Pompey likely to be the Club he goes to. Even more sad is the fact that we are unlikely to even miss him!

Really thought was a good player when he 1st joined, now he just seems to go through the motions in games. He adds nothing to the team, not quick, cant tackle, dont score goals so really what is point in him? Sell him and get half the money back please

Goes to show how limited is the football knowledge of all those fans who used to say how well he played. Just another of Keane's many mistakes.Let's cut our losses & get whatever we can as soon as we can

Always thought he was overpriced and over rated by many on here when he first came ,i will admit that i did think he might kick on this season with more experience beside him so have been even more disappointed . Thing with offering another contract is that we could be stuck paying wages for someone not good enough who no one will buy ?
How many of Keanes signings would get us the money paid out for them ?
Fulop,Priskin,Leadbitter,Martin,Scotland,Healy,Murphy,Delaney,Kennedy,Edwards, thanks Roy £11 million well spent and people on here moan about Jewell getting in free transfers when we have £11 million pounds worth that shouldnt get in the starting 11 on a saturday !!

That is really a quite pathetic excuse for poor form,we have got rid of most of most of those responsible for the budgie debacle, put him on a contract and get rid

let leadbitter meet the subs bench.

i cant see him getting into the first 11 now that andrews and jimmy are here, nothing against grant but he just isn't good enough.
gives the ball away far too cheaply and rearly passes it forward.

If Paul Jewell wants to keep him then we must support the Manager's judgement. Leadbitter has some class about him that even amateurs like us should surely be able to see. Let's get positive and get behind Paul Jewell, the best manager we could possibly have hoped for.

I thought it was a surprising choice when he was made skipper, maybe PJ thought the responsibilty would bring him on but clearly hasn't worked. I thought he was one of RK's better signings when he came in but he hasn't done it and has clearly lost his way.
Probably needs to move on but whether he will sign a new contract if he knows the writing is on the wall is doubtful so as usual we will get rid of him for next to nothing or free. On current form should not be in the first 11 if other are fit as Bullard, Andrews, Bowyer offer far more in the middle of the park.

Just out of interest whats happened to Drury, when he came on against Cambridge he looked class but hasn't done anything since then.

Loan him out to portsmouth until january, with a chance of a permenant move from january onwards.

I only managed to get to 3 games last season having been away at uni but both games i went to at protman road (against preston and palace), the only voice i heard was jimmy bullard's so why not make him captain...

Leadbitter has all of the appearance of being a good player but none of the content.

The "sign him or sell him" argument for a £2.6M player makes total sense, but haven't we left it too late? If he won't sign then it is too late to sell him, other than in the January transfer window when players in the last six months of their contract only ever sell for peanuts. If he will sign, then I can only think he is worth a much reduced contract to his current one. He came from a Premier League team and I suspect he must be on a very good wage. Perhaps he'd like to take a 75% pay cut which is the amount Sonko was rumoured to be willing to accept after dropping out of the Premier League.

Leadbitter has been a sad waste of a £2.6M fee and probably nearer £5M once wages, signing on fee, agents' fee etc. have been taken into account. People often say he was Keane's best signing, well, he doesn't seem value for money to me.
