Forest Step Up Move for Town Target Collins
Forest Step Up Move for Town Target Collins

Nottingham Forest are stepping up their attempts to sign Town target Danny Collins on loan from Stoke City, according to a tabloid report this morning. Forest have long been admirers of the 31-year-old, who was on the bench for Wales as they lost 1-0 to England last night.

Steve McClaren’s club are said to be ready to pay close to Collins’s full Stoke wage of £25,000-a-week to gazump the Blues, who have been chasing the former Sunderland man for some weeks.

Central defender or left-back Collins has been left out of Stoke’s 25-man Premier League squad with manager Tony Pulis keen that he should go out and play games elsewhere. Portsmouth have also been linked.

From tomorrow, Football League clubs are able to take players on 'emergency' loans of up to 93 days.

Meanwhile, former Blue Connor Wickham is perhaps unsurprisingly reported to have played down the chances of him returning to Town on loan. Manager Paul Jewell made what appeared to be a semi-serious suggestion that he had enquired about the England U21 international striker’s availability last week.

^^^^^^ Rose tinted.....

It will look a lot of money if we are mid table and other players sulking cause of the wage stucture being sacrificed for one player who can not make the Stoke squad.....

He should go to Forest and let the termoil there begin.

captaincrunch.... can you stop using ridiculous hyperbole to try and prove a point.

Saying 'if we are top at xmas' is not a cohesive argument!!

We have Delaney, Sonko and Ingimarsson at CB. RB is the priority position.

Another CB would be good, but not at that price.

I hate the idea of this club paying an average premier league reserve player £25k per week for any length of loan.

Argh.

If Mr Collins wants to go to Nottingham Forest good, Forest aint got the best midfielder in the Championship we have, Jimmy Bullard, so with leadbitter and Bowyer protecting our current Defenders and Jimmy asking for the ball to set up are wide players and now formittable front players, having a bench that will make a difference when needed, we will do fine with what we have got.

Agree entirely with Marshalls_Mullet.

I think we should offer £100M for Messi, on 300K a week. Might seem expensive now, but in May 2014, when we're in the Champions League Final, it'll have been money well spent.

Equally ridiculous of course :)

Splashing money foolishly like the 25K for Collins might not buy success, but that kind of attitude will buy us failure for sure!

And old timer;

Yes Bullard is good, but seriously the best midfielder in the championship? Do you have a general idea of football outside of Ipswich? lol

David Bentley, Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan, thats just West Ham!
Vicente at Brighton, and however many more

Maybe a bit of realism wouldn't go amiss at times!

"£25K a week is £1.3M a year, or to put it another way around 3,500 season ticket holders!"

Thats a thought. Instead of spending the money on a player, why not give away 3,500 season tickets, bump the crowd up which will secure us a much needed 12th man! Does Clegg do 'out of the box'?

If we dont fix the defence we will lose alot more in Division 1 than the wages we are talking about. The defenders we have sound good on paper but when will they all be available for selection at the same time? Even england looked weak at right back and they had Smalling!

25k p/w is rediculus for a loan player, especially for a defender.
Sonko, Inge and Delaney are all decent players, even though Collins is a better player I would still prefer to play "our" players. Loanees can often lack commitment or motivation. Jimmy was an exception, he hadnt played much for a year and had it all to prove while on loan last season.

Collins is also left footed, would prefer some one who can cover right back.

Sounds like Forrest are getting exactly what they wanted by releasing that statement! We think: Oh dear, they're going to offer Stoke almost all of his 25k wages, and give up trying to sign him. Then Forrest go to Stoke and, as they are the only team still interested, sign him paying not even a quarter of his wages.
I just hope PJ doesn't fall for that trick, as quite a lot of you have done, and just gets on with the business!!! The RB and CB will come you know, has he failed to buy any other players we needed? Think about it.

We all have our opinions about certain platers and yes chris West Ham collectively probably had the best midfield players in the Championship and they should easily win the league, but I still think a fit Bullard is the real deal, and I would play my money just to watch his skills then the West Ham boys put together

There should be no need for further loans - full stop. We have three. Permanent deals should have been completed. Clegg and PJ at fault.

£25k a week?!!!!..for Danny Collins!!!?

You must be joking...Stoke must have more money than sense too.

..Collins is very very average - at best...our scouts need to start looking at league 0ne defenders ala Creswell who will cost a fraction of what some of these over-rated prem players are on.

Didn't see you say that jas0999 when keane was here. You must still be wearing those tinted glasses. How many loan signings did he make?

All this talk of loan players is ok but we have a quality ex town player available currently with no club and moving back into the area. This player is Wayne Brown who would fit into left side of defence perfectly. He is a quality no nonsense player just what we are lacking and he is FREE. Come on you town scouts why haven't you got him here at least for a trial period.

Thats almost the same wages as our should be captain, game changing bullard. Collins is not the same standard or quality. Dont pay more than half that, if someone else does, silly them!

PJ knows what he is doing, trust him and wait to see what happens. The Forest stuff is again all speculation.

Bullard IS the best midfielder in the division, worth the season ticket just to see him play. Here's hoping he doesn't get injured.

According to reports this appears to be a done-deal.
Very disappointing. I just hope we can target someone else IMMEDIATELY as we are simply not strong enough at the back.
25K a week? Forest must be desperate for a decent cb. Then again, so are we.
We can't expect to compete this season with the back 4 we have at the moment (even Cresswell needs some decent cover in case he's injured).
Even now, I still think we need 5 or 6 players more to compete for the top 6 places in this league.
