Duo Could Return But Sonko a Doubt
Duo Could Return But Sonko a Doubt
Thursday, 8th Sep 2011 09:57

Midfielder Lee Bowyer and central defender Ívar Ingimarsson are back in training and could return to action when the Blues take on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. New centre-half Ibrahima Sonko is a doubt with the hamstring injury he suffered last week, but Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is training again after picking up an ankle knock in the victory over Leeds.

Jewell says Bowyer (hamstring) and Ingimarsson (thigh) could come into contention: “Lee Bowyer’s trained all week, so has Ívar Ingimarsson.

“Ibrahima Sonko has had a tight hamstring since the Monday after the Leeds game, but we’re hoping he’ll be OK. We’ll have to wait and see.

“Jay Emmanuel-Thomas trained yesterday for the first time. He did a bit of running. It’s unfortunate because we would have liked to have got a really good two weeks’ hard work into him.”

Lee Martin is suspended for another two games after his red card at Peterborough, but Tommy Smith is back from his ban.

Jewell will assess the fitness of his international players over the next couple of days. Most are already back at the club but Carlos Edwards isn’t due to return until tomorrow.

Be great to see Ingar back. Impressive at Bristol City. Him and Sonko my preferred centre back pairing.

It is the Central defence that is once again posing the major problems. P.J. should get his skates on and recruit cover in this department as soon as possible.

I understand that he does not want to panic buy but we are in desperate need of someone soon and the sooner the better!

MaySixth - mine too, although it would be very useful if Delaney could recover some form and stability.

How was inger good at bristol ?? Everything he done put us in danger, if it wernt for dammo we would had lost . Ingers heading ability is dog meat I would play ainsley ahead of him . Clearly some people on here DIDN'T go to bristol

I'm hoping for Sonko and Delaney at the back, looking to form a partnership. Ingimarsson and Smith as backup and I'm happy with that.

I didn't go to Bristol KenBubz7 but I went to the pre-season freindly against Wolves where Ingarmarsson looked very assured, a real calming presence at the back, where as Delaney looked a shambles (same in the Cambridge United friendly I saw, and P'boro and S'oton games speak for themselves). I understand Damo did well alongside Sonko against Leeds, but he has looked shocking in most games without someone like McAuley to guide him through, a real weak link and a terrible distributor of the ball, typical Keane signing

Kendubz I went to Bristol and Ingi was excellent. It's not all about playing football its about organising your defence as well and he did that superbly. We let no goals in so how can you criticise the guy. We have missed him terribly since that day. We need him and Sonko to be fit. Sorry Ken you are entitled to your opinion but if you would rather have Ainsley well I'm speechless - remember Peterborough and Northampton he was way out of his depth.

So basically we have to pray that Ingimarsson is fit.

Kendubz, if your opinion on football is the same as your opinion on music.....then you don't really have an opinion in my eyes. N-Dubz!!! I hope that's just something you thought funny to put in your username. Because after your comment on Inga and that username, I'm getting strong feelings that your a 12 year old Chav with a dappy hat!!!

I have to agree mostly with you Kendubz - I thought ingi was poor at Ashton Gate. Lost many headers, gave away possession too many times in bad areas and looked slow on the turn and lacked pace. Not match fit so he will improve. Lucky Maynard was AWOL that day.

Agree his positioning was good and marshalled some areas quite well but far from impressive.

What is it about our centre halfs, get 1 fit and the other gets injured!

God help us if Smith is anywhere near the team!
