Scotland Announces International Retirement
Scotland Announces International Retirement
Thursday, 29th Sep 2011 07:32

Town striker Jason Scotland has announced his retirement from international football with Trinidad and Tobago to concentrate on playing for the Blues. The 32-year-old won 41 caps and scored eight goals, including a hat-trick in a 9-0 friendly victory over the Dominican Republic in 2008.

Scotland said: “I’ve decided to retire from international football to concentrate on my career with Ipswich. I’ve had a great time with Trinidad and Tobago and I wish them all the best in their quest to get to the next World Cup finals in Brazil.

“At the moment I just want to concentrate on Ipswich. I’m back in the team, we’re doing well and I’m really enjoying a new partnership with Michael Chopra. Helping Ipswich back into the Premier League is what I want to do and I need to concentrate all my efforts on that.”

Scotland’s last international was a World Cup qualifier against the US in September 2009 but his recent form for Town has led to speculation in the Caribbean that he could be recalled.

Scotland I have given you some stick but you have turned back into that player we were all so excited about signing from wigan, a goal poacher who terrifies defenders, good on you.!

Good on you Scotland. Pity Priskin (who is possibly more talented) doesn't show the same attitude - work hard, train well & if you're good enough, you'll get in the team.

Great stuff JS. You continue to impress more and more. Agree Muhrensleftfoot - Scotland is making Priskin look a bit silly at the moment

8 goals in 41 games? I can only presume a lot of them were as a substitute....

We shouldn't underestimate what a massive decision this is for a player like Scotland. Obviously he has to look after number 1 first, but it also shows great commitment to doing his best for the team. Keep up the good work Rocket!

Sounds like someone who wants to give everything for ITFC and we haven't had one of those for a while. Well done Jason. No offence to the rest of the team, you only have to look at recent performances to know how hard EVERYONE is trying. Keep it up lads and roll on Brighton !

Jason is a good man. He has been a streadying influence in a difficult period for the team. I reckon that PJ is the type of manager to recognise this.

Fair play to Jason, I thought his Town days were over. Top lad, be great to see him turn it round and prove a lot of people wrong.

Da da da da Jason Scotland !!!

Really becoming a fans favourite - shows what a good attitude can achieve - especially when compared to Tamas Priskin

I must admit that I wasn't his greatest fan, but he has proved me wrong. As long as the ball is played to him lower than chest high he is a winner. Good on you Jason, keep up the good work.

Can't wait for the Brighton game, could be 4-1. We should fear no one now.

This is very encouraging news for us. It's so good to see your hard work paying dividends Jason. More goals to come along with valuable hold up play and lay offs.
