Healy's Contract Terminated
Healy's Contract Terminated
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:15

Midfielder Colin Healy’s Town contract has been terminated by mutual consent. The 31-year-old joined the Blues from Cork City in the summer of 2009 for £70,000 but never really established himself at Portman Road, despite signing a one-year contract extension in the close season.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "Colin is a terrific pro but he's not had the first team football he was looking for this season.

"Agreeing to bring his contract to an end early gives him the opportunity to find himself a new club for the rest of the season and we wish him the best of luck."

Healy, who made 19 starts and 10 sub appearances for Town, scoring twice, made his only league appearance of the season in the recent 3-2 defeat to Doncaster in which he was substituted during the first half.

The former Ireland international subsequently made his frustrations known to Jewell and was left out of the 16 at Nottingham Forest.

Colin Healy was treated disgracefully by Jewell. He is more than just a good pro. He should have been in the team many more times than he was. How can Jewell justify putting the talentless Leadbitter in every week. He's a plodder and the worst captain Town have ever had---and my memory goes back a long way !

If leadbetter is not going to sign the contract on the table don't play him and appoint a proper captain. Time to be ruthless and play a system and players which will be effective, not to accomodate 4 biggest named players.

Leadbetter dropped for Saturday please. Would be tempted to play Murphy up fronts with chops and Carson and Martin wide. Andrews in middle with hyam. Bullard on bench and Murray.

Come on jewell, shake it up.

Can't believe some of the negative comments on here!!
O.k, so he wasn't pele, but then he was a lot better than a lot of the dross that has been through the doors of portman road in the last few years.

He would appear to have been the consumate professional during his time here, and, in my opinion was shabbily treated in his last appearance.

Who among us wouldn't have reacted in exactly the same manner when hauled off after half an hour when there were others around him having a far worse game ?

Never really got a run in the side, and I for one wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Struck me as a coincidence that Roy Keane's hometown club Cork needed 70k to avoid administration and suddenly we were paying 70k for Healy. That said, he was probably worth it and when he did play he certainly looked to hold his own at Championship level but never really had the chance. i suspect Drury will go the same way. No massive loss though, probably the best part of £5k p/w off the wage bill that can go towards someone else.

Good luck Colin.

Good luck in getting fixed up Colin .You were treated absymally in the Doncaster match as both Leadweight and Bullard were the most ineffective midfielders on display and should have been subbed instead. Now lets see if PJ has the bottle to not only drop them from the team but also the squad for Saturday.

Poor signing not good enough for this league ,get rid of Priskin and Leadbitter and the club can regroup almost from Keanes poor time in control , many more options than these three .Wake up Mr Jewell and drop Leadbitter

A very unfortunate ending to what could have turned out to be a very astute signing :(

I think Colin has been quite unlucky in his career, and certainly not helped by Big Mick breaking his leg in a training ground incident some time back. I was delighted for the guy when he signed for Ipswich, a sound lad from my home town gone to play for my fave club! I hope he goes on to find a decent club (as decent as Town) with a decent manager (more decent than Mr Jewell).

Good luck Colin and I hope to see you both in the green shirt again and if you drop in to Fred's I'll buy you a pint!

cheers

Phil

Hellotosh, Scotland has been one of our better performers this season! Emmanuel-Thomas can hardly be described as dead wood yet either, fine he's not exactly shone but he's young and with the right training and guidance he could become a very good player.
Good luck to you Colin anyway, not sure if the Championship was the right place for you to be playing or not, but I did see a game in which he played whislt on loan at Falkirk (on tv) and he looked good there. Would probably be a good player at league one level as well but he's probably more likely to end up in Scotland or back in Ireland.

I don't see why he's now everyone's hero, every time he played almost everyone in the ground was thinking "why?!?!" when he was subbed off in that game everyone said he shouldn't have been on the pitch anyway. Besides, in professional football, if you aren't getting to job done, you're taken off. It's a harsh business and if you're not good enough then you're not good enough.

Jewell probably could have handled this better, but then we were hardly going to sell him nobody knows who he is and his lack of games would have dropped his already megre value considerably. Perhaps some of you should stop looking for any excuse to criticise the manager and the club, it gives you all very short memories.

By the time Jewell has finished getting rid of players he has fallen out with we won't be able to field a side - just one of many in the departure lounge wake up and get rid of jewell before he destroys the club completely

Have to laugh at someone saying we won't be able to field a side soon : we can get rid of another 10 and would still have the biggest squad in the entire country.

tomisamos - 'Jewell probably could have handled it better' but ..........

Stop making excuses for this man and his failings please - too many like you only serve to condone and increase the general malaise of this once great Football Club.

See it as it really is.

h32 - I firmly believed that Keane and jim were wrong for the job, I don't just see positives in everyone. I just don't see why it's so clear and obvious that Jewell is going to ruin the club. It really isn't. You see what you want to see. Literally everything jewell has done for the past two weeks has been criticised, had he done it any differently and we'd still lost he'd still have been criticised. Colin Healy was not good enough for this football club. That's not Jewell's fault and stop pretending it is.

PJ gave him a new contract. Why? Then he subs him after 20 odd minutes. Arm round the shoulder manager? No - an absolute disgrace. JEWELL OUT
