Scotland: Win Has Worked Wonders
Scotland: Win Has Worked Wonders
Friday, 16th Dec 2011 10:39

Striker Jason Scotland has revealed how Town’s storming second-half recovery at Barnsley last week instantly worked wonders for dressing room harmony.

He first noticed it on the bus journey home from Yorkshire and said the upbeat mood, not surprisingly, had also contributed to a more positive atmosphere on the training ground in the build-up to tomorrow’s home clash with Derby County.

Although keen to play down his own performance against the Tykes, Scotland, 32, was among the goalscorers at Oakwell as Paul Jewell’s men, who trailed 2-0 at the interval, netted five times and eventually ended a run of seven league defeats on the spin with a stunning 5-3 victory.

The Trinidad & Tobago star said: “When you are winning games it can have a big effect and the trip home on the bus was so much different to previous away games when we lost.

“It was happy and bubbly but when you have lost you will have some players swearing at others and generally people are not happy with each other. We don’t take defeats well and when it was seven in a row it made it all the worse to take.

“Players will point out mistakes that others might have made. I’m only using Carlos [Edwards] as an example but people would say ‘You were supposed to be marking their guy who scored with a header’ and stuff like that.

“There has been a more positive feeling this week in training and we hope to start up against Derby where we left off against Barnsley. We did not play well in the first half but if we can repeat the way we played in the second everyone will be very happy.”

I am only using Carlos as an example because he costs us every week and is not a defender !!

As I've always said about Carlos, I feel sorry for the guy. He's made to play at RB and that's not his position he is a RM and it's time we started using him as that and try to find a real RB. I've said this before as well, how come we don't after two and a half years have our own player in that position. Surely this isn't happening at other clubs?

i think carlos has done pretty well at right back, i dont know why everyone always canes him.. he is working very hard for the team in an unfamiliar position. its not his fault at all, it is purely down to the club not purchasing a proper right back

Love the Edwards bit, nice to know the players think he is as crap as the fans think he is.

I think it's more likely that being International team mates before their time here, they know each other well. He probably thinks if he is going to use an example; use one that can firstly take it on the chin, and secondly won't take it as an offence.

I think Edwards is given a time, I don't like him at right back as I think his positioning let's him down too often. But as a back up player he isn't bad, and he does work hard for the squad.

scotland and edwards are clearly mates, thats why he picked him out.

If i was in the same boat i would pick out a friend, rather than a loan or new player like andrews.

i still thnk edwards is one of the better right back in this division

We all know that Edwards is played out of position but that doesnt mean he should take any credit for the number of incomplete passes and horrible mistakes (lack of marking, lack of concentration, lack of awareness etc etc). He is one of the most horrible right backs I have ever seen don the shirt. I know about Peters' limitations but let's give him a proper go. Crikey, lets get George Burley back in a pair of boots...

Edwards in ten times better than Eastman, Brown and Peters at right back, some people just love to focus on the odd mistake he makes and not the numerous attacks he stops.

Suffolk poker, if Edwards is one of the better right backs in the division there must be some awful ones. That's not criticising Edwards as a player, I would say he's possibly one of the better right wings in the Champ, but not a natural RB.

Garv - i look forward to your comments because with so much negativity on this site, its great to see your boundless optimism. On this one though, you're looking through rose tinted glasses. You're right that it's been a bloody long time since we had a decent RB but next time you go to FPR, just focus in on that muppet and tot up the number of his "odd mistakes"

You sad and pathetic people Scotland tells us how the postive attitude is nice and explains it and all you care about it the bit were he says about Carlos ... Pr*cks need to sort your life out and support another club because your not welcome here!!

Kendubz, I think the problem is that the recent run has been so bad one excellent second half performance hasn't made up for the other 7 1/2 games, so people can still focus on negativety. But it's good to hear that confidence is high so hopefully we can give Derby a good battering too (although 1-0 will do!!)
The problem as I see it is that Carlos is prone to positional errors as he's not the best defensively (tackling he's not too bad but positionally he can be caught out) but is excellent going forward. But as I've said in other posts it's not his fault that he's the best option we've got at RB as the club has failed in 2 1/2 years since David Wright left to aquire a RB on a permanent basis.

KenDubZ - spot on. This site is full of negative people. Even if we win a game 6-1 to many will home in on slaging a player off for a mistake that lead to their goal rather than the positives. "Not picking on megamouth as an example" but a fine example "just focus in on that muppet and tot up the number of his "odd mistakes". With pr@ts like that in the crowd its no wonder players play with more freedom away. In all honesty over the last 10 years the worst home crowd I have heard for getting on their own players backs is......you've guessed it US! Yet often we have fantastic away support.

It is not negative to say a player is poor in his position and it is costing us goals it is a fact ,big difference ,which is why it will be no suprise if a right back is added in January .
Good attacking wing back if played with 3 centre backs but poor in a back four as constantly out of position and causing others to cover him which creates big gaps in the centre of the pitch ,and allows far too many crosses into the box .Not negative just factual ,if all of our players are so good and we cannot criticise any of them why have we conceded so many goals ,the centre backs have been changed ,the goalkeepers changed how about the right back who constantly lets his man go at set pieces Paul ?

I wonder whether anyone on the Team Bus would dare to swear at PJ for poor tactics?

" Carlos is prone to positional errors " --- ya dont say, i could add another 7 to that list over the last 8 games who have done nothing else but make simple schoolboy errors ....

So the players realise he can't defend either.
Credit where credits due though I rate him going forward and with a good right back behind him he could be handy.I actually feel sorry for Edwards as he clearly is not a defender. Shame the manager can't see it but frankly not a surprise.!
