Town to Receive Rhodes Windfall?
Town to Receive Rhodes Windfall?
Thursday, 29th Dec 2011 15:29

Town’s January war chest could receive a boost with West Ham reported to have offered Huddersfield £3 million for ex-Blues striker Jordan Rhodes. The controversial deal which took the 21-year-old frontman to West Yorkshire in the summer of 2009 included a sell-on clause which if the currently quoted figures are close to being correct would take the overall fee Town achieved for the Scotland international close to £1 million.

The Terriers are reported to have turned down the Hammers' offer with manager Lee Clark recently stating his club’s determination to hold on to their star man despite reported interest from Manchester United, Celtic and innumerable other sides: "Jordan doesn't have a value - the chairman will not sell. He has stated that his money is better in Jordan that in the bank.

"The lad doesn't want to leave, which is just as important. We dealt with the issue weeks ago, because we knew he would be hot property. Promotion is more important to the chairman than pounds."

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has subsequently confirmed that his club has made an enquiry but no more than that: "Jordan Rhodes has only been an enquiry, not an offer or a bid by any stretch of the imagination.

"And we have had a straightforward 'absolute no', 'not for sale' from Huddersfield Town so that's out of equation. That was just an enquiry to see what the situation was and nothing more than that."

While other interested parties may now show their hand, Allardyce says the money which Huddersfield are likely to view as a fair price for Rhodes would be beyond West Ham: "He is the main man for them to get them out of that division. This young lad is their main goalscorer.

"I suppose if the bid was big enough they would have to think about it, but I don't think we have that sort of money."

The Blues are understood to already have received more than £600,000 from the Rhodes deal which included several clauses based on both the player and the club reaching milestones, plus the sell-on which is believed to be in excess of 10% of the profit Huddersfield would make if they agree to sell the son of former Blues keeper-coach Andy.

We will only know if selling Rhodes was a mistake if he starts scoring goals at a higher level. Would he get as many goals in the champ/prem??

We cant afford him now. Lets be realistic another young player slips through our club & more to follow & come back to haunt us imo

> We will only know if selling Rhodes was a mistake if he starts scoring goals at a higher level.

Not true, if Huddersfield sell him for a £2M+ profit then obviously we made a mistake! Perhaps we can use the windwall to pay off Priskin's contract?

I just wish no-one ever mentioned his name again here. I still can't believe the absolute stupidity of Keane and/or Clegg for selling him so cheap. Everytime I see his name it makes me crazy........

Eat humble pie all you who said this boy wouldn't make it - and I hope you all get books on Football next Xmas so you can read up on the game.
You may then be able to recognise a good, promising young player when you see one. Don't forget to send one to Roy Keane as well - he may learn something too.

You all know who the above refers to - ENJOY.

Rk will live to regret this decision and gives him no credability in assessment of players but unfortunately to our detriment.

Have to move on from this though and look forward to second half of season.

alfromcol - pathetic comment - goalscorers like him are NATURALS - and find it easier with better players around them.

This lad has ALWAYS had what it takes.

Enjoy your humble pie.

I hope he goes to Celtic....then we'll never get to see him playing against us at PR! He'll score goals up there no doubt, no point looking back, he fitted well into the Hudds Town side and his confidence has grown from there..

alfromcol - ........ having said that, under the current 'excuse' of a regime - he may well have done.

Huddersfield will wait to end of season, if they get promoted and and Jordan stays and keeps scoreing his value will keep going up.
I have seen Huddersfield on tv a few times over the past few seasons and have also been impressed with Gary Roberts another ex Town player who fell out of favour with an ex Town boss.

put in a 2.3 mio bid and land him. WHU would have to up their bid to 3.5 just to better ours by half a mill. He will do well at this level.

Few players our scouts shoukd be looking at. Jack butland 18 year old keeper birmingham on loan at cheltenham playing great stuff. Jacob butterfield barnsley nippy midfielder 21. Jack hunt right back huddersfield young right back. kane ferdinand southend holding midfielder. Put in our own kids & build. LOng term with maybe 2 or 3 old heads & we will reap the rewards

Commercially, we sold Rhodes for £800k and he's now worth around £3m, we kept Wickham and sold him for around £8m. In anybody's book, surely that was the right decision for ITFC?

Also the club needs to take note of our youth policy, what was the decision regarding academy expenditure? But with strikers who could easily get caps in the future it is a great testament of the work that is being done at the club.

Interesting comments about buying him back but let's face it, would he really want to come back? I wouldn't if I was him knowing that bigger clubs with more ambition and better prosects of either promotion or a sustained Premier League involvement where after me.

£3million for Rhodes or £3million for Sharpe

You would go Sharpe every time as he is proven at this level.

West Ham could get promoted this season so to buy Rhodes and hope in 6 months he could score goals in the prem is a very big ask. big step up from League 1 to Championship and even a bigger one to the prem.

Would Rhodes be in the town team if he had stayed, The fact is he had to leave to further his career and playing 2 season in the league one has help his game more than playing in town reserves
