Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 16:37

Portsmouth have rejected Town’s second offer for Joel Ward (pictured) and Jason Pearce, according to reports on the south coast. The Blues made an increased bid, which we understand to have been £1.6 million, earlier today having had their initial offer - reportedly £1 million - rebuffed last week.

Town will now have to decide whether to make a third bid to the cash-strapped club or look at other targets.

However, given Pompey's ongoing financial concerns and manager Michael Appleton's admission that player sales are on the cards, it seems likely that the Blues will continue to pursue the matter.

It's understood that Town have not yet made a new bid for 17-year-old Crewe midfielder Nick Powell.

Sindre94 - I love your optimism!

Seriously, what on earth will we do if these two dont sign? We will start to look desperate, which in turn will make us look even more unattractive!

As many people have already said - what is plan B? Is there one?

This is a crucial test of ME and Clegg.............................

Its got to the point that all I can do now is laugh, was hoping when I woke up this morning that PJ had been sacked or had walked, we can only dream hey. 1 week left in the transfer window and we have done sweet FA. Laughing stock.

Of course not, they'd rather an investor. This will go to the wire. Keep targeting these two relentlessly and get McManus ahead of the transfer deadline.

They're possibly worth £3 million for both without pompeys current state. Should have gone in at £2 million from the start and if we have to pay a little more for them so be it if it means championship football for ipswich next year.

This club is in a complete state. We simply can not agree fees for players unless other clubs want rid (Chopra) or we pay well over the odds (JET). It's becoming a joke.

We have a poor CEO, a manager who frankly would not get another job elsewhere and who has deliver utter rubbish and finally a deluded owner he seems to think these two fools are doing a good job.

PJ should have been sacked today. He would have been gone already at any other club. It's an utter disgrace. I suspect the club will then wonder why attendances are low and falling. Season ticket sales will be less than 10K in my opinion if this is allowed to continue.

Big_Foot_Blue Spot on.

Why is everyone running around like headless chickens. Only those close to the offers know what is going on.

Be patient and wait and see.

It is a question of: are Portsmouth more desperate for the money, more than we are desperate for the players!!!!!

A game of poker going on here. Not being played very well by some on this site who are saying we are so desperate, give them all the money they want.

This is absolutely ridiculous, we need new players now! That's the extent of this crisis! Stop being so financially tentative a lodge a respectable offer, they're highly rated by Portsmouth, lets give them the respect they deserve.

I think the club should put an embargo on Phil reporting any of this transfer rubbish until there is something concrete to report.

This will at least stop all the moaning and groaning. OOOPs forgot, everyone will then moan that no one is telling them anything.

Get a grip folks and don't panic.

It will be like an ebay auction, losing out in the final few seconds of the transfer window. No Plan C either.

even a club thats falling apart wont be fooled by this bid ,2m at least for both thats if the players want to come here at all. pj wants them but he may not be there when they come, they,ll end up in bristol or peterboro as at least they have a spine,11 bread and butter players that know what to do with a ball....

8 points out of a possible 45.

If we do not get in the players we need this week we will go down. 2 Mil and we will get them in.

I'm not even sure the two pompey lads would be enough. 3 defenders needed, NOW!

3 points to make here:

1. The speed at which fans have jumped on this story indicates the worry amongst us for the club's immediate future

2. This is a negotiation process so I'm fully agreed with those that are saying hold on and not to panic. As the cliche states: a week is a long time in football.

3. These 2 are not the be-all and end-all of our season. Yes we are all agreed that stability at the back is required but the club must have other targets too. And they wouldn't be communicating them either in case they jeopardise their position in any conversations that are taking place.

We as supporters will just have to be patient and judge the management team at the end of the season. In the meantime let's let them do their job of doing what they see as best for this football club. This isn't easy for the average emotionally-attached fan but it will be the best we can do for the club at this time. Fuelling disquiet will get us all nowhere.

Get real. The players wouldn't want to join us even if a bid is a a accepted by Pompey. No one will risk joining a club that looks down & out for League 1 football next season. The truth hurts

PJ should focus on correcting the defensive frailties and make the best out of the current squad! Get down to work PJ!!!

Agree with alfromcol, we have nothing to go on here but rumours from the "south coast". Could be anything from a local journo to their equivalent of TWTD, but either way doubt it's anything newsworthy. I wish Phil would state sources these news stories came from, any many others...? Otherwise stick them in the rumour mill and let's wait from real news. Oh for the days when the Internet didn't gush out these null stories!
