Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 16:37

Portsmouth have rejected Town’s second offer for Joel Ward (pictured) and Jason Pearce, according to reports on the south coast. The Blues made an increased bid, which we understand to have been £1.6 million, earlier today having had their initial offer - reportedly £1 million - rebuffed last week.

Town will now have to decide whether to make a third bid to the cash-strapped club or look at other targets.

However, given Pompey's ongoing financial concerns and manager Michael Appleton's admission that player sales are on the cards, it seems likely that the Blues will continue to pursue the matter.

It's understood that Town have not yet made a new bid for 17-year-old Crewe midfielder Nick Powell.

what have you been shopping for down under bobble? lol
Magilton was the best manager we've had in years. He got the best out of players and made do with what he had. With money Magilton could have taken us up, he had the respect of staff and players alike. A much loved character who was then ingloriously sackd as he wasn't high profile enough.
For those who want a return of the Dark Lord....I was one of his biggest fans (I will always defend the manager). Yet even I in the end was stumped. Our longball football was at times plain awful and then he would bring in passing footballers (Andros Townsend for example) and keep them on the bench. A return of the Dark Lord would not be welcomed. I could imagine the headline in the EA "Keane returns to Ipswich Town" . There would be a picture of the witch hunters already gathered outside portman road. Or would the headline just read "The Dark Lord Returns". Him and his dog are not missed.

Lets be honest about this situation, if we dont hear any positive news by 6 o'clock tomorrow evening regarding players coming in the the only way to judge this season is that we are'nt relegated bottom of the table.

Held to ransom by a club who owe £1.6 million in tax and could soon face a winding up order, they're playing a risky game

I have a question please.
Do we still have a board of Directors? Do they have a voice on the running of the club? Or is it just ME's decision?

Jas it's not fair to say we paid over the odds for JET.

The guy was 20 years old now just turned 21 on a 3 year deal and has started showing us what he can do after it was obvious he would take a while to find decent form.

How many more times is he going to hit the bar before one flies in the top corner?

£1.1M could end up looking like a steal in a year or two, but he can't do it all himself, he needs a team around him to create as well and defend which as we know all too well we can't do!

You generally bid high to clubs who dont want or need to sell. Dont complain when they "low ball" a club that could be extinct in afew months.

3 signings by Thursday but not these two. Has to be a smokescreen - no other logical explanation except ineptitude...erm, then again?

Apparently St Ledger played a blinder at Southampton last night so we can kiss goodbye to him being let go now.

To those who are still defending Paul jewell as a manager of our club just read the eadt this morning. Says that Luke hyam will need to go out on loan on to get a longer deal.

This bloke has lost the plot and has to go. What is he doing to this club. This will all end in tears just because Evans is too pig headed to admit he got it wrong again.

Surely when players won't sign this is a message to clegg and Evans. Surely people have had enough of this.

Oh, and we will play west ham next who are top of the league.

Forgot to say, great piece of man management and encouragement to a young player who has just got back in the team.

Enough is enough.

Isnt it about time we had some decent new coming out of portman road?
Its about time we had the toilets painted out, Get on it Mr clegg!

And lets be honest here, Even if Pompey did except our improved offer, could you honestly see Clegg managing to sort our two lots of personal terms and contratcs in the time left?

Nope me neither!
Very dark days are upon us!

tractorboy666 & others. did you actually read the story, that clearly states that the new bid was £1.6m pounds, so no we didnt bid just £1.1m did we? forevertown .think youll find that clegg doesnt put in the bids. while it may be him who writes the email or however it sent, its m.e. who actually makes the bid. when will people on here realise that basically clegg is just a frontman for m.e. or do you just want some1 to make a scapegoat.

Who in their right mind would want to come here and play for PJ if ME had done the right thing and sacked him a month ago we may have been able to turn things around as it stands why would they want the prospect of a relegation fight and Div 1, a clueless idiot manager and and a pair who are prob more interested in how much they can make out of the olympics

corshamblue added 10:11 - Jan 24
How much did we pay for Priskin and let him go on a free, actually how much in player values have walked from this club without a fee in the last 3 years?

£2.1 million for these pair should make pompey think again, someone will pay that and I hope it's us.

Hmm ... if this bid rejected news is true then I reckon £2mil is the most we should pay for the Portsmouth duo. But we have to look at the situation from both points of view. If we do proceed with the offers then Pompey will have to weigh up two points:

1. Will the transfer funds be enough to help Pompey out of crisis or partially out of crisis and ...

2. Would Pompey be willing to let these players go as they have a small squad as it is and so this could effectively give the money, but reduce the size of their squad significantly.

I am all for these deals going through, but only the Administrator at Pompey can really say whether it would be a good deal I guess.

Just reading on Sky Sports website that we are back in for Pearce but so are Leicester! We have no chance!

If Leicester get Pearce they will let us have St Ledger

150 comments on this story so far. Shows that there is not much news to tell.
Sounds like Leicester are willing to pay what is necessary for Pearce. Sounds like Leeds are also in big-time for St Ledger.
Leaving us with?????
FREE TRANSFERS AGAIN!!!! Who is up for grabs and might do a decent job? See Michael Ball is on his way- could do a reasonable job for us at centre half. 32 as well, ripe for the picking!
